Lawmakers Friday unveiled a “first-in-the-nation” bill requiring all businesses in California to ensure that all their workers are vaccinated against COVID-19.
Assembly Bill 1993 would require workplaces and employers of all sizes to verify that their workers – both employees and independent contractors – are fully immunized against the COVID-19 virus.
If it passes both houses and is signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom, the law would take effect on January 1, 2023.
“The pathway to endemic is through vaccines – and to get there, Californians need consistency and certainty,” Assemblymember Buffy Wicks (D-Oakland) said in a statement.
Wicks described the proposed law as the first such legislation in the nation.
“People have experienced so much whiplash over the past couple years when it comes to ever-changing guidelines in the workplace. Workers are craving stability, and vaccines are the key to making that happen,” Wicks said.
AB 1993 would require new hires of a business to have at least one shot by their first day on the job, and the second within 45 days. The bill includes no option for a testing alternative unless an employee qualifies for a medical or religious exemption.
I fully support vaccines, but I don’t support this. I believe there’s enough immunity already through vaccination and previous infection. Move on.

We just had a SCOTUS ruling that federal mandate to private businesses through OSHA is illegal so I don’t really think that a state government bill would pass the constitutional requirements. Richard Pan (who allegedly was the recipient of $326,149 in contributions from the pharmaceutical industry — including both vaccine manufacturers: Pfizer and J&J) would eliminate a personal belief exemption in school-based COVID-19 vaccination requirements.
Please take a moment and wake up to see what this really is all about. Do you want these people that have never met you or your children to have a say in your families private medical decisions? Decisions that should be made specific to the individual based on many factors. Do you really think it is ok to force people (under duress) to take a vaccine that Big Pharma has been trying to block the studies for?

The latest numbers from the County show that unvaccinated people are three times more likely to get infected than people who are fully vaccinated and boosted. Unvaccinated people are currently being hospitalized for Covid at a rate over seven times the rate for people who are vaccinated and boosted. That seems like an important difference.

My guess is that unvaccinated people who catch COVID are more likely to experience symptoms, and therefore more likely to get tested or seek medical assistance. That would skew the numbers.

People messed up when they wanted the government into their healthcare. It is no longer ensuring “fair access” to healthcare (however they define it), it is now mandating healthcare (defined as what the government deems is needed) access you, and you have no say/choice in the matter.
