One person was hospitalized with smoke inhalation and burn injuries after a fire at a senior living facility in Pleasant Hill on Thursday afternoon, a Contra Costa County Fire Protection District spokesman said.
The two-alarm fire was reported at 1:15 p.m. in an unoccupied unit at the Hookston Senior Homes at 80 W. Hookston Road.
A male victim in an adjacent unit suffered injuries while trying to escape through a hallway and had to be rescued from an apartment balcony, fire district spokesman Steve Hill said. He was taken to a hospital and an update on his condition was not immediately available.
Crews extinguished the fire by shortly before 2 p.m. and its cause is under investigation, Hill said.

The fire was determined to an electrical fire with the quote being “it started out with some electrical wires” though it’s not clear if that means wiring in a wall, an extension cord, or the power cord for an appliance.
