Walnut Creek Police Arrest Two After Driver Almost Crashes Stolen Vehicle Into Canal

The following information is from the Walnut Creek Police Dept.:

Last night, WCPD Swing Shift and Graveyard Officers were conducting routine patrol in the city. Officers were suddenly alerted, via our Automated License Plate Reading (ALPR) system, that a stolen vehicle had just entered town.

Officers began their search and an Officer quickly located the vehicle parked along the southern fence-line of the Ross Store Parking lot (Adjacent to one of our canals).

This officer was quickly joined by members of both teams and a High Risk Stop was initiated.

The suspect chose to test his luck by trying to flee from our officers in the stolen car. In doing so, the vehicle reversed and struck a Patrol Car’s “Push-Bar” and then quickly accelerated towards the fence line. The driver, seemingly unaware of the 30-40 foot drop into the canal, attempted to drive through the fence and was caught by the chain link, but continued to accelerate.

In an effort to stop the suspect vehicle from pushing through the fence (and into the water below), or reversing back into one of our officers, an officer fired a “Less-Lethal” Kinetic Energy Round at the window of the vehicle.

This successfully shattered the window to the vehicle which caused the driver to immediately halt his attempts to flee, and he began to comply with commands.

Both the driver and the female passenger were detained and arrested on various charges and booked at The Martinez Detention Facility.

The Less-Lethal Kinetic Energy Round is commonly referred to as a Bean-Bag Round. These specific rounds are fired from a 12-gauge shotgun that is painted a bright orange color to differentiate them from any lethal firearm. When appropriate, these types of rounds have many intended applications and are another tool that WCPD Officers are equipped with to assist on a variety of calls for service.

We also located two replica style Airsoft guns inside of the vehicle, which unlike our shotguns, were not painted orange, and are not easily distinguishable as being toys.

The suspects’ names were not released.

… good job WC PD 🙂

Ha, ha, trying to drive through a chain link fence. He’s been watching too many movies. I feel sorry for the car’s owner, who may not have full coverage.
Good job, WCPD

Why didn’t the social workers handle this?

“Officers were suddenly alerted,. . .that a stolen vehicle had just entered town”
And that was their second mistake!

I wonder if this car can be related to some of the other recent crimes in our area such as CVS and Wells Fargo.

If it could be related, it could help with the capture of the neanderthals committing crimes and assaulting people.

I do apologize to all of the neanderthals, I certainly didn’t intend to demean any of the law-abiding.

Possibly, the Pleasant hill Wells fargo robbery said a silver Nissan, but some people could confuse a small sedan.

The only thing they could have done better was to push him into the creek.

.
..a Toyota Corolla.
.

Looking at that picture I would say those are two lucky people. That next step would have been a good one.

It’s two bad they didn’t break through the fence. These two deserved to enjoy the liberating freedom of floating down the canal in their stolen car.

EXCELLENT!
Do we have the same stolen-vehicle alert system in Concord?

Of course not do you know why? They would spend all day and night working, and they dont want to,they do it all from the Concord Police building trying to sneak into the backdoor of your computer or phone.CPD does more desk work than actually pound the pavement, and their dispatchers tell you to slow down or they will hang up on you while youre reporting a felony, like they did to me,more than once.Keystone cops

Concord PD Det. Billingston did a wonderfol job on the Ross Farca case which took tons of computer knowledge. Sentencing scheduled for this Friday, come join me in court.

This is not a canal – it’s Las Trampas Creek. Just to the left (out of shot) is the confluence of Tice Valley Creek. It’s been given the USACE treatment so common in the 50s and 60s so it looks like a canal.
Every town should have the stolen-vehicle alert cameras. These people aren’t coming her for any reason that would benefit us.

Let me guess…, they were white?

I could never be a cop. Knowing who was in the car and what is on the other side of the fence, I would just watch gravity do its thing. Buh-bye.

Frankly, I wish they would have crashed! I think it’s the only way to get the thugs off the street. Our current DA certainly isn’t doing it!
We need to vote her out of office this November and replace her with a good da, Mary Knox!

Those two criminals are enjoying Sunday breakfast at home. It was an old car, and the guns were toys so no bail no big deal. Give them a traffic ticket and have a nice day.

I don’t understand the point of criminals carrying “Airsoft guns” when perpetrating crimes? Unless they want to be seen as having a live deadly weapon?

Pretty sure that is the point. It’s a bluff to try and get compliance from their victims.

Either that or they’re they’re just airsoft enthusiasts who got wrapped up in unrelated crimes. Probably the former.

Lemme guess, perps were from Oakland, Antioch, or Richmond?

It’s lucky for the thugs that they didn’t point those other-than-orange gun-looking-thingies at the cops.

I’m glad the vehicle didn’t crash down into the creek because:
Even if it didn’t explode and start a fire….. or if fuel didn’t leak into the creek…. can you imagine the large, expensive equipment needed to haul the wreck out of there? …. plus, the major disruption to thoroughfare traffic?

Walnut Creek, Concord and Pleasant Hill are beginning to resemble the Oakland of 20 years ago. 40 years ago Concord was in the top 50 medium-sized cities in the nation. Now?

As long as criminals know that there is a good chance they will not be caught, and if caught not prosecuted, they will continue to come to the region of the “entertainment”.

The word is out that Walnut Creek is the place to go for criminals. Easy access to freeways. Easy to steal with lots of wealth. Police Department and chief are more worried about hurting the woke feelings of some residents so crooks capitalize on this weekness. Besides, Diana Becton is down with homie.

Exactly why I have been passing out a new training manual to Walnut Creek officers.

For those of you wishing they would have fell in the canal…. I feel sorry for heartless people like y’all. I understand they committed a crime but do you think they deserve death really? NOONE is perfect and yes we should pay the for the crime but death??? Man that’s harsh

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Their misfortune is a direct result of their own evil acts.

I think we naturally wish all the problem people would just disappear.

Before everyone starts let me say this.. Everyone who makes mistakes is not a awful person. My son is not a awful person or POS or any of the other names I read people wrote about him. Yes my son made a very poor choice but he definitely does NOT deserve to die. Also let me say this before everyone comes for me NO he was not raised to be like that. If you actually knew my son you would like him very much. I do not know or understand why he made the choice to do something so stupid. Also I am not naive or stupid and you can not just tell me anything. My son knows he is loved and I would do anything in the world for my son. He did a dumb thing YES I understand but when I read all your comments on here wishing death on my son I had to say something. If this was your son would you want people saying he deserves to die? We all know the answer to that so keep it real with your self!! My son is 30 years old I can not make him do ANYTHING all I can do is let him know daily I love him and I will always be here for him and will pray for him. Just remember everyone makes MISTAKES. NOONE is perfect. So please don’t ever wish death on my son or anyone else’s child… I love u Son.. u already know….

For the grace of God, your son’s life was spared from death. He is very blessed to have not gone over into the canal. While we don’t wish him any ill will, the thing that you fail to recognize is that he caused thousands of dollars of damage to an innocent victim and his family who worked hard for that car that your son stole and crashed. Where is your sympathy towards the victim? Your son is not the victim! Have you thought about the victim and what they have endured? Has he accepted responsibility for his criminal behavior and his destructive actions that he has caused to this family? Please don’t make him out to be a choir boy! I hope that he learns from his bad behavior.

of victim

First of all please tell me where i made my son out to be a “choir boy” I clearly stated that I do not know what made him do such a stupid thing. Everyone should pay the consequences for their actions I am not excusing that in any way because he is my son. I was responding to comments on here where people were wishing death upon my son. Do I feel bad for the people’s car he stole and crashed and cost thousands of dollars in damage to?? absolutely I do. I’m very sorry that my son made that stupid decision not only am I sorry I’m very embarrassed, however I will always have my son’s back especially when people are wishing death upon my son!!!
