Contra Costa: COVID-19 Boosters Mandated For First Responders And Other At-Risk Workers

by CLAYCORD.com

Contra Costa County announced Monday it will require first responders and workers in homeless shelters to verify they’ve received a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The county’s health services department said the requirement applies within the county to law enforcement officers, firefighters and emergency medical personnel who work in or may respond to emergency calls at high-risk facilities such as hospitals, jails, nursing, or congregate care facilities, as well as all workers in homeless shelters.

It also applies to non-emergency ambulance workers who provide medical transport for such facilities.

The order will take effect Jan. 10 and require upboosted workers to test weekly with either a PCR or antigen test for COVID-19.

“The omicron variant is much more infectious than previous strains of COVID-19,” said Dr. Chris Farnitano, Contra Costa County health officer, in a statement. “Boosting is necessary for the best protection from omicron infection and transmission.

“Our hospitals are at risk of being overwhelmed if a large number of our most vulnerable residents get sick. Our goal is to ramp up the protection around places where there is an elevated risk of exposure, and people who are at high risk of serious illness if they become infected.”

The order requires applicable workers to test weekly for COVID-19 and provide the results to their employers or, if fully vaccinated, provide proof they’ve received a booster vaccine within one month of becoming eligible.

Employers are required to keep vaccination records for these employees.

Anyone 16 or older is eligible for a booster dose six months after they become fully vaccinated with the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or two months after they receive a dose of the Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) vaccine.

California added a similar statewide requirement for healthcare workers, home care workers, and employees of congregate care and detention facilities, on Dec. 22.

Contra Costa identified the county’s first patients infected by this variant just last week – two of the three initial cases were fully vaccinated, but none of them had received boosters.

The health service department says about 36 percent of Contra Costa residents 16 and older have gotten a booster dose.

As of today, there are 351 active cases of COVID-19 in Contra Costa County. 12 of those people are in the ICU. The county’s population is 1.3-million.

Once again, (I wasn’t able to get an answer at Christmas, nor from anyone on this site)……

What is going to be the magic number where you finally put your foot down, at what booster # does it become Enough is Enough???

Dr Jellyfinger December 27, 2021 - 3:26 PM - 3:26 PM

I’m not getting a booster.

They will be doing monthly boosters at the start of the new year.

this_that December 28, 2021 - 3:59 AM - 3:59 AM

Unfortunately, I don’t think this will end anytime soon.

Our local costco offers up COVID shots and there was a line of people getting them. It is indeed mass psychosis.

LEO December 27, 2021 - 3:12 PM - 3:12 PM

Nope not going to do it. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I’ll continue to do my job to the fullest and protect the good people of my city. If they want to fire me over a booster shot, that’s on them and they can explain why there are no officers left to the left people.

No 5 year old was arrested…”The spokesperson added that four individuals were arrested following the protest and were charged with criminal trespass. The individuals seen in the video of the mother and child were not arrested.”

Sam December 28, 2021 - 2:26 PM - 2:26 PM

Rules ain’t laws. The business has to trespass you not the police soliciting a trespass. This is illegal discrimination by the state unless the business insisted they be removed. The mom will have a nice amount of money if she sues the state for soliciting. Same goes for restaurants here in the contra communist county. THE BUSINESS has to request the trespass. Cops can’t solicit it.

Gittyup December 27, 2021 - 3:33 PM - 3:33 PM

“Our hospitals are at risk of being overwhelmed…”

They’re obviously making this up as they go along. Or, they have short-term memory loss because they used the “overwhelm the hospitals” excuse before.

Sign the petition to say NO MORE VACCINATION PAPER CHECKS and MASK MANDATES in Contra Costa County

https://restorecontracosta.com/

Thanks to those who have signed, and spread the word!

Walked into the bank today, both other customers didn’t have a mask on, which made 3 of us. That’s a nice change, let’s keep it up people.

Winnie The Pooh December 27, 2021 - 8:20 PM - 8:20 PM

@ Mitch

In Utah right now visiting a friend and we went to the store and it was really weird (but nice) to see people without masks. My friend is use to it but I’m not nor was my 7 year old. CA has such strict rules yet we always seem to have high cases. Sorry but none of this makes sense. Also signed the petition!

ERas December 28, 2021 - 4:50 AM - 4:50 AM

@Winnie The Pooh
Most of that is likely due to the fact the California has a population of 39.51 million, whereas Utah is 3.21 million. People crammed together tends to spread things faster.

Janus December 27, 2021 - 4:23 PM - 4:23 PM

If Covid-19 is so dangerous, how come Newson has not canceled the Rose Bowl & the Super Bowl events?!?

So, 90,000 fans who have traveled from two states with even lower vaccination rates than California’s will cram into Pasadena during a winter surge of the Delta and Omicron variants for the Rose Bowl and up to +100,000 fans from all over the world will attend the Super Bowl at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.

Surely these 2 events would be classified as “Super Spreader” events?

Anon December 27, 2021 - 7:32 PM - 7:32 PM

This is the pinnacle of HYPOCRISY.
We all know that the superbowl IS ‘bread & circuses’ for the masses. Funny how this “pandemic” began After the superbowl 2020, and for the superbowl 2021 they had the magic juice for the sheep.

Concord Resident December 28, 2021 - 10:11 AM - 10:11 AM

The Rose Bowl has Covid protocols in place:

https://www.rosebowlstadium.com/covid-19-vaccination-and-test-requirements

The Rose Bowl is also outdoors.

Wouldn’t the bigger beef be with the NBA teams in the state all playing in indoor arenas?

Janus December 28, 2021 - 2:19 PM - 2:19 PM

Concord Resident

I read the Rose Bowl requirement and I say so what. The NFL players on the Covid protocol list were all vaccinated yet they came down with the virus. Elizabeth Warren and Cory Booker were all vaccinated with a booster and came down with Covid.

So every CDC card present, either the actual postcard or picture will be legitimate and not a forgery? All ID are going to be vigorously checked? I think not.

You have to show proof of a negative test with ID for Covid up 72 hours in advance. So within 3 days of a negative test no body catches the virus?

Being outside eating a meal in a restaurant is not the same as eating, drinking and cheering at a game. I’m sure that no one will cheer in between eating and drinking when their masks are off and everyone will be conscientiously wearing their N95 masks fully covering their nose and mouth at all times… yeah right.

Bill December 27, 2021 - 5:03 PM - 5:03 PM

5.4 Million deaths from Covid worldwide since it started. I wonder how many people it would be if we didn’t have the vaccine?

how does that work? you have to get the booster but still get tested every week? Why? are they saying their “product” doesnt work?

Aaron December 27, 2021 - 9:19 PM - 9:19 PM

It works pretty well against the strain it was designed for. Unfortunately not so great against omicron. They’ll probably have an omicron specific booster within ten months. Of course we’ll have two more strains by then. Hopefully those strains will put fewer people in the hospital.

There must be volumes of evidence supporting that vaccine plus booster prevents the spread of all covid-19 variants, which is why this common sense order is being made I look forward to them presenting such evidence.

Aaron December 27, 2021 - 9:23 PM - 9:23 PM

Is anyone actually claiming that? It’d be a ridiculous claim given omicron wasn’t around when the vaccine was developed, the R0 of omicron, and the low percentage of people fully vaccinated. Still a way smarter use of public health dollars to give out boosters than let hospitals get completely overwhelmed.

martinezdad December 27, 2021 - 10:06 PM - 10:06 PM

I’m pretty sure they are operating on the “abundance of caution” principle which doesn’t involve science. It is more of a “trust me bro” approach.

martinezdad December 27, 2021 - 10:09 PM - 10:09 PM

So there decision to mandate this for thousands of employees is based on 3 cases in the county? Is there any proof that if those three had the booster they would not have caught the Omicron variant? Doesn’t seem very scientific to me and more “we need to do something”.

weppin December 28, 2021 - 4:01 AM - 4:01 AM

Don’t want to get the booster? Don’t get it. If you want the booster, that’s ok too. I agree with Donald Trump – the evidence indicates that booster shots are safe. I got my booster with no side effects, and so far no Covid.

Just wondering – if the Covid Pills become readily available, will you take this pill?

12GA December 28, 2021 - 6:59 AM - 6:59 AM

It’d be wise to question that evidence.

Justifiable languor December 28, 2021 - 8:14 AM - 8:14 AM

The reinvention of the new and patented Ivermectin is hundreds of dollars more than the actual decades tested original. It’s a transfer of money into Big Pharma and capital venturists.

I am also a supporter of choice. It is a crap shoot. Originally the jab was for the elderly and frail, for a reason. It was better than nothing at the beginning of the pandemic. Now, we know a lot more. I trust the first hand observations. More so than those making money off off this SARS infection. Doctors have been threatened. First hand accounts.

Bluebird December 28, 2021 - 5:53 AM - 5:53 AM

A few months ago, there was a cold going around and a co-worker had it. I employed the same standards I used years ago to avoid a cold – Wash my hands frequently. Drink plenty of fluids, Spray Lysol, and Kept my distance. I never got it. Cold viruses have been around for a long time and I doubt we will ever cure The Virus. No booster for me either.

Why aren’t the wild eyed liberals screaming about “Biden’s Bungling” of the Covid response like they did to Trump?

Contra Costa County will fire doctors, nurses, police officers, first responders, due to Omicron? Vaccination passports will not control Omicron — the vaccinated are spreading it. Mass testing will not control it. It’s highly contagious, people can catch it five minutes after taking the test.

Vaccination mandates have created shortages of first responders, supply chain shortages, airline delays, and ugly social divisions.

Responding truthfully to public concerns would be far more effective than punishing people for non-compliance. https://bit.ly/343JdqB

CP,
I mulled this thought of moving over and over throughout 2021. Christmas really confirmed it for me as my inlaws and siblings are all good boot lickers who love their prison.
The day after Christmas I wrote up a list of things I need to sell off in preparation for an easier move.
The only thing so far for me is that the Union I belong to is opposing the jab (solo job and 99% outdoors).
I spoke to our mail carrier who also said that she did her part but will not get any boosters……and now USPS is exempt.

I will not quit speaking out against this even if my job is not affected by it, it’s also what I told certain acquaintances who think they’re home free with their counterfeit cards…..it’s falsely making you think you’re all good, but really all that it is making you do is not speak up and speak out against this tyranny.

“Are you aware you can be asymptomatic and spread the virus to the public and your coworkers? Do you care?”

Are you aware that you can be vaxxed and still spread the virus to the public and your coworkers? Do you care?

Don’t be an idiot Frank. The vax has been shown effective at reducing the risk of serious illness and death. BUT IT DOES NOT STOP THE VAXXED FROM SHEDDING THE VIRUS AT THE SAME RATE AS THE UNVAXXED. What that means is that the vaxxed/unvaxxed will still infect others, regardless of vax status.

I wish you would use your brain before you start to type.

We will all come into contact with this virus. Get your vax to protect yourself.

“The omicron variant is very contagious, and we now know that anyone, regardless of vaccination status, can spread this variant to other people,” said Dr. Ori Tzvieli, Contra Costa County deputy health officer. “We anticipate the case rate and hospitalization numbers to increase over the coming weeks.

This booster mandate is not going to stop the spread…Leo is just the tip of the iceberg that is to come with essential workers saying enough is enough! Leo is my hero…

Attention LEO ( which I doubt) defenders.: Vaccinations are not perfect . Read the CDC guidance which talks about vaccinated people spreading covid , but only with the latest variant.

Got that Sancho ?

Real Vaccines work. Always have. Think Polio, all sorts of Measles, Mumps, and on and on. THESE Covid “vaccines” are NOT “real” vaccines. They may even be little more than a panpharmacon. The ingredients, as a ‘cocktail of pharma’ seem to do many important things to aid the body in fighting for itself. Or sadly, they may, in some cases, actually hinder the body from doing what it is already capable of doing.
But they do NOT stop this bio-engineered virus.
Prove me Wrong!
