I don’t care to fly so much. Flew twice a week for over a year.

Car. More freedom and control.

Evidently you are not a pilot.

Car

I wouldn’t go near an airport these days let alone what would happen on the plane.

The way people are acting on planes these days I’m preferring to drive. I swear, the passengers on planes now seem more like the Greyhound crowd now. Obviously for long distances flying makes more sense. It’s even cheaper now because the outrageous gas prices.

Guess you haven’t noticed the way people drive these days 🤔

The only real problem is discount airlines that cater to certain people flying on certain routes. Like Chicago to Miami.

Depends on where I’m going. Usually I’d rather drive, because I don’t like crowded areas. If it’s a small private plane, I’d rather fly because it’s more fun.
There was an episode on MythBusters where they demonstrated that on a trip under 400 miles, It’s possible that driving can be faster. One person flew to Los Angeles from San Francisco, and two people drove to Los Angeles from San Francisco, everybody left at the same time and from the same place. The two that drove got to LA first. Flying took longer because they took into account, the time to get to the airport, arriving early, waiting, and boarding the plane. After the plane landed in LA, there was the time it took to retrieve their baggage, rent a car, and drive to their destination.
Driving to LA took into account stopping for gas and food, and a restroom break. Driving was about 8 minutes faster.
I never flew to LA, but I did fly to San Diego from Oakland, and flying seems faster to me.

Dawg, Exactly my point, however some people just don’t like to spend much time in a car. My ex husband was a little like that, and my girl friend in New York thinks 1 hour or more is boring.

I like looking at the landscape and I can be alone with my thoughts without interferings from others. Most of the time on 5 to LA not much traffic until I get close to Pasadena.

Have never had to go thru turn your head n cough and never will.
Have no need of a Passport or “REAL” ID.

Flown twice in my life, first time as plane climbed out of OAK got to see Oakland hills fire burning (1991). Second time one way trip to Kansas,
picked up and drove vehicle back to Claycord.

Plane if I’m going any distance. Best was traveling to India business class (a treat). Most interesting was in 1979 flying from the Bay Area to Seattle in a private plane owned and piloted by my brother. That evening I had to play a gig and the room rocked as if I had been in a rowboat all day. 😄

I have done a lot of both. When I first came here from Denmark I would go back to Denmark at least every other year, sometimes more. I first lived on the East Coast and the flight from New York to Copenhagen was quite pleasant, back then they really pampered you on international flights. It changed a bit when I moved to the San Francisco, no direct flight, so much longer flight, it was especially tough when I travelled with my daughter as an infant and more so as a toddler. Of oourse then there were no real security to go through, it changed after 9/11. I flew back to Denmark on the 1 year anniversary of 9/11, I flew either SAS or KLM I forget, but everything went smooth, except it took longer getting through security.

My daughter now lives by Pasadena, and when I visit I always drive, the idea of driving to the airport, pay for parking go through security etc. it seems much simpler to get in my car and drive, besides then I have my car when I get there and can get around on my own, if I flew I would be depending on someone picking me up at the airport, or rent a car. When driving I can listen to music, or talk radio, and it is just me, don’t have to put up with unruly passengers.

Flying has become a distinctly unpleasant experience, and that was before all of the recent mask stuff. No way I’m wearing a mask for an entire four hour flight. I prefer to drive.

Since I won’t fly it is the car for me. You can go to more places in a car and stay or not as you want.

I much rather riding a train. No, not BARF (Bay Area Rail Failure).

I love trains, since I grew up in Europe I was use to trains, and you can observe the beautiful landscape and not worry about getting into an accident. Most beautiful train ride, from Copenhagen to Venice, went through the Swiss Alps, spectacular, and Copehagen to Gothenburg, and Gothenburg to Stockholm. Also have taking the train from New York City to Boston, also a beautiful trip.

Hanne, We took the train from Munich to Ystad Sweden, through Copenhagen; nice ride. However, the most beautiful train ride we took in our summer in Europe (many years ago) was Oslo to Bergen Norway. Other beautiful train rides were Barcelona to Nice and Munich to Innsbruck.

CAr… did way too much flying earlier in my career

Flying was much nicer before 9/11 and all the security stuff you have to go through — although I realize why it’s necessary. I can’t even imagine it since Covid-19. I also preferred to take flights where the plane was mostly empty which seems rare anymore. Life was simpler. I guess I much prefer leisurely car trips to flying nowadays whenever possible.

In general, I prefer to be in a car. The seats in planes are a bit more narrow than my own “seat cushion” (at least before), and unless in economy plus, as I am taller, the leg room is non-existent. This was all pre-Covid. The thought of having to wear those flipping face pampers on a flight is awful.

When I first started flying commercial it was like getting on a bus. Sit in your seat and wait for the smoking lamp to go on. Then you had to take your shoes off and go through a metal detector and stand in line and wait in a crowded terminal. Then covid hit and I haven’t flown since. Unless we go to Europe or Hawaii again I will never fly commercial. That would never happen until they get rid of the mask mandate. I prefer to drive in the US.

I enjoy flying and riding in a car, and I’ve done a lot of both. No desire to fly during the pandemic — no explanation needed. Flying was much nicer before 9/11, but I love to travel so the security precautions don’t bother me.

Distance – flying. Shorter destination – driving. If I want to relax and see the country (any country) the train is a great way to travel. So relaxing, and you meet a lot of nice people.

Car/Vehicle. One can absorb so much more of the beauty of the sites along the way, stop when you want if for leisure. If I had to be somewhere quickly out of state for example, then normally I’d fly. A few times work related.

Car without a doubt.
Pack up my dog and drive to the mountains, camp on BLM land and never see or speak to another person.

Driving, definitely. Majority of our trips we drive. This year we’ve been to Montana, Idaho, Arizona, Texas…all driving. Unfortunately, I have family on the east coast and it’s a long drive, so we fly. May rethink that, however, if vaxxed becomes a requirement for flying. I’d rather the trip take longer than get a death jab. 😜

.
Depends… Which car? How far?
.
… a Ferrari F430 or, let’s say, a Scion XB?
.

Plane…if I am flying the plane and for longer trips. But agree commercial flying sucks.

The real question is flying to or away from California. We drove.

Had to fly back to get my mom out. The flight out of Oakland was distinctly unpleasant. We had arranged for a wheelchair to get her through security and to the gate. No one was available to help, so I had to push her and carry our carry on bags. And then TSA insisted that she stand and walk through the scanner. She was unable. They pulled the same stunt on another person in a wheelchair. I would have gone off on them but just wanted to GTFO of Kleptofornica once and for all.

Bring back the 747 and then ask me again

We flew a KLM 747-400 from SFO to Amsterdam 3 years ago. It was one of the worst flights we’ve had. No legroom and the people in front of us leaned their seats back all of the way for the entire flight. The flight attendant had to argue with them to get them to raise their seatbacks when meals were served so we could eat. Our return flight from London was very pleasant in a United B-777. Given a choice on a long flight, I prefer the B-767, 2-3-2 seating so it’s less of a “cattle car” and most seats are either aisle or window. Unfortunately, most of them are being retired.

From wheels up to wheels down, flying can be enjoyable. Everything before and after is a pain. My time limit in a car is about three hours (are we there yet?).

“Up in the AIRRRRRRRRRR, junior bird men……..” 🎼

@Antler….that brought a big smile to my face, sitting around a campfire as a kid and singing it in the car on vacation, I still sing that…..https://youtu.be/b1J8E9dnd5g

Hey, I know that!

I’m not up to speed with this stuff anymore, but when I was, Amtrak was a truly wonderful and far underrated way to travel.
