California Dept. Of Alcoholic Beverage Control Awarded Grant To Increase Teen Driver Safety

The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) has announced it will administer a $284,000 grant to educate teenagers about safe driving, reduce underage drinking, and work to lower the number of Californians killed or injured in DUI crashes.

The grant was awarded to ABC by the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Through this grant, ABC will work with a teen driver safety education group to expand a teen traffic safety program throughout California.

These educational efforts will bring awareness to youth about the consequences and impact of distracted driving, impaired driving, and underage drinking. There will also be a focus on the importance of wearing seat belts.

“Increasing awareness about operating vehicles safely, and the consequences of underage drinking, can help make our roads safer,” said ABC Director Eric Hirata. “We look forward to collaborating with our community partners to help educate California’s youth.”

ABC protects communities through education and by administering prevention and enforcement programs designed to increase compliance with California’s alcoholic beverage laws.

$284,000

That’s nothing more than a little extra Holiday bonus for the top-tier administrators.

Most teens are used to gory videos and dire warnings. Maybe a class visit to a hospital emergence room? Real life can be scarier than lectures or videos.

It’s true. If the state thinks a new version of Red Asphalt will have an impact on teens, they’re wrong. The kids have already seen a young Russian soldier have his head amputated by a Chechen with a dull knife.

More likely, the money will fund trips to seminars in Vegas for the head hanchos, along with generous stipends for “entertainment,” of course.

It’s a waste of time and money. Teenagers already know everything. /sarc

If they still have drunk tanks in jail let them spend a few hours in the tank with the inhabitants. Watch an hour of drunk deadly accidents. Take them to the morgue and show them the results of drinking and driving and or without seat belts. Give them Ubers telephober.ne num

One of the most effective programs I have seen is “Every 15 Minutes.” I was witness to it while working at CVHS and it had a profound effect on everyone involved. I hope this program is still in place at our high schools. https://everyfifteenminutes.org/aboutus/
