The Bay Area Air Quality Management District issued a forecast that calls for moderate air quality through at least Thursday.
While moderate is not good, it’s not bad either.
It also falls short of an alert, sitting smack dab in the middle between “good” and “unhealthy for sensitive groups” on the air quality index as measured by the Environmental Protection Agency.
There are three higher levels — “unhealthy,” “very unhealthy” and “hazardous” — on the scale that measure progressively worse air quality.
The index measures pollutants, includes measures for six major air pollutants — ozone, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide and two sizes of particulate matter — which are converted to numbers for each pollutant.
Anything below 100 should not affect health of the general public, according to federal officials, though readings in the moderate range of 50 to 100 may affect unusually sensitive people.
The local AQI forecast ranges from a low of 59 in the south central bay (the East Bay south of Oakland to Fremont and from Redwood City to Mountain View on the west side) to a high of 89 in the northern zone (Sonoma and Napa counties and the southeast section of Marin County).
The daily forecast is available by signing up for email AirAlerts (http://baaqmdsparetheair.enviroflash.info/) or by calling the Air District’s 24-hour, toll-free information line (1-800-HELP AIR).
Air District Calls For “Moderate” Air Quality Through Thursday.
Ya here that Air?
Ya better straighten up and fly right.
You need to be moderate through Thursday.
The BABBQ police told ya so.
I’d heard that up to 29% of our air pollution floats over from China. I’m wondering if the air quality management district can provide statistics to this. Possibly not, as then they can’t keep blaming our fireplaces.
Let us not forget the real nasty pollution that comes from when a rocket gets launched anywhere. That outdoes any kind of so-called ‘progress’ that is made by a whopping amount. And these rockets are launched from all over the world for one thing or another.
You heard that, eh? Where? Can you cite the source? Any chance it’s factual or did someone pull that out of some dark place to rile up the reactionaries? I detest Chinese policies across the board and would love another piece of truth to hold against them, but making stuff up just leaves you vulnerable to fact based counterclaims.
FIRE IN THE HOLE!!
.
Let’s thank China for conveying their dirty air via the jet stream.
.
Imagine if the poisonous byproducts of your rampant industrialization were weaponized by the prevailing winds against your enemies.
This is the position China is in.
Glad I made so many masks. I have to wear one when the air quality is 50+. And yeah some is from China and I’ll bet the fires in Russia are contributing also. Last I heard their tundra is still burning.
They’re working up to banning fireplaces on Christmas Eve and Day.
Let’s not forget all the active volcanoes erupting presently…https://volcano.si.edu/gvp_currenteruptions.cfm
Phil,
Educate yourself and do your ‘googley dance’ or a DuckDuckgo and look up ‘what is rocket exhaust’ made from. You will find several answers to the question. Some call it a ‘dirty little secret’.
Some sites are still being cleaned up from 60 yrs of testing……..
There are some things that are never mentioned as they do not fit the current agenda of the topic.
