The East Bay SPCA received a $20,000 grant from PetSmart Charities to help keep more pets in loving homes and out of shelters.
The grant is intended to help pet owners facing emergencies that may have led led them to surrender their animals.
The grant will help the SPCA’s Hold for Home program provide free, temporary pet boarding and care, including medical assistance if needed.
“Countless families are facing a financial crisis due to the pandemic, and this work ensures pet parents can provide basic care for pets without having to choose between feeding themselves or paying a bill, and a beloved pet,” said Aimee Gilbreath, president of PetSmart Charities.
Since 1994, through its partnership with nearly 4,000 humane societies, SPCAs and pet rescues across North America, PetSmart Charities has helped more than 9.3 million pets to find loving homes via its in-store adoption program in more than 1,600 PetSmart® stores.

This is so important.. One of the best strokes of luck for me and the abandoned cat malnourished and left to die with flea collar hanging so far from her neck because a family obviously felt she would find her own way when they had to leave, did NOT die because of my love and care for her.
After three weeks of seeing her roam, decided to put the food out, sit outside and she immediate came to me..That was last October. Never doubt animals have feelings. Her looks at me are unreal. They know.
Bella, animals most certainly do have feelings, this is why I am so against zoos. Holding animals in captivity solely for the purpose of human enjoyment, in my opinion, is animal abuse. Animals get depressed, the big cats, the bears, and the elephants, mope around looking very unhappy. The chimps get so upset at humans gawking, they throw poop at them.

I’d rather spend my time with animals than most people I know.
Animals are incapable of deceit.
@Cellophane. Lol! By incapable I assume you mean incompetent at deceit. Have you ever had a dog? They always try and play it off when they know they’ve done something bad. It’s no mark of character, they just suck at lying. But it ain’t for lack of trying.
Dawg: Many zoo animals are drugged with tranquilizers because they are so stressed in the little cages for their whole lives. Their behavior is very different than you would see in the wild and the name for it is zoochosis. Animals in the wild do not bite themselves or rip out their own fur. Parents taking kids to zoos are showing their kids stressed and depressed animals, not how they really are.
wrong…..animals are very capable of deceit……my cat pretends he loves me all the time………then I feed him.

Thank you patrons of PetSmart.
.
Please be a responsible human and get have your dogs and cats neutered/spayed.
.
And if adopting, please remember that an animal companion is not a fashion statement, a household accessory, or a “toy”. Their care and feeding is YOUR responsibility for their lifetime which can span 10 to 20 years or more. If you cannot make that commitment, then please do not adopt ANY animal.
