Smash & Grab – Nine Suspects With Hammers Rob Sunvalley Mall Jewelry Store

The following is from the Concord Police Department:

On November 15, at approximately 7:30 pm, a group of 9 people entered the Iceberg Diamonds jewelry store inside the Sunvalley Mall, armed with hammers.

They began smashing the glass display cases and stealing jewels.

Employees tried to intervene and were kept back by the hammer wielding criminals.

The suspects got away before police arrived.

Some customers inside the mall called reporting what they thought were gunshots heard, but in actuality, they heard the sounds of the hammers breaking glass. No shots were fired.

The case is under investigation by Concord PD Detectives. Anyone with information regarding this case may contact Detective Christine Corey with CPD’s Financial Crimes Unit at 925-603-5828.

And nothing will happen. They won’t get caught, and if they do they’ll be released immediately by the corrupt DA of CC citing something about “life is hard” for these upstanding members of our society.

Any connection to the recent arrest of the hammer-wielding jewelry thieves at the Fairfield mall???

No charges will be filed, complet failure of our district attorney.

3 guesses and the first two don’t count.

Jewelers should be armed. I would have figured that was basic.

To allow this to go on and not stopped is uncivilized. It is embarrassing to live in a country that allows this to happen. The perps got away before the police arrived. Isn’t that just great. How about the mall hires armed guards that aren’t afraid to act. How about alarm bells and lights in front of every store. Once these people get caught and serve jail time this BS will stop.

Our civilization is in decay. Our low-trust society is rotten to the core. There is a bright side to all of this, however: diversity is our strength.

I’m thinking about the trauma the employees faced. My brother was a customer when this happened once.

If they do get caught, I wonder if the DA will conclude they really needed those diamonds to sell to buy diapers and baby formula and so they should only face no-jail misdemeanor citations.

I do agree about the poor employees. They’ll remember this night for the rest of their lives. I’m just glad they didn’t get guns pointed at them.

And any customers in the store at the time.

You’re right. Very scary. I feel bad for the employees, they are someone’s mom, dad, brother, sister or child. Must be terrifying. Criminals like this don’t care about human life. Sun Valley has almost no security either. It’s awful.

Well we’ll, isn’t this the upstanding citizen the far left is protecting. Defund police because they are doing their job. If it was me, policing would be allowed to shoot with immunity for stuff like this.

You’re so right!. Unfortunately this is so true. And it’s going to get worse.

They did it because they could. Didn’t the sunglasses store get wiped out by a group not too long ago? No deterrents snymore. Employeesxdnd mall cops are useless

Armed guards wouldn’t be able to do anything either because it is considered a non violent crime.

They raised a hammer … if you are around them and that hammer is raised anywhere near you, I would argue that it is a violent crime all day long.

The raised hammer is a perceived threat. If the armed guard perceives a threat against themselves or a patron, I would hope (not 100% sure) that they could respond in defense of the themselves/patrons.

Then the law has to change. It would change if our politicians were not cowards.

peep this. they took prob 3 cars to the mall. at least one of them wasnt stolen. one of the cars is going to come back to one of the suspects. someone’s going to flip on their crew. especially if the one who gets caught has a record.
thats grand theft, first degree burglary, and conspiracy.

our country is ^$#%^&, our society is crumbling. contra costa sucks. Close all malls. materialism is #$^%$. close all cash for gold stores.

We can thank our wishy washy, crime allowing DA for this kind of crap happening across CC county. Criminals know that she isn’t going to do anything whatever the crime they won’t do any time. Cops are trying to police
with their hands tied behind their back.
She needs to go now.

This is freaking HILARIOUS! It’s the Wild Wild West out there apparently and jimmy crack corn and I don’t care! You get what you voted for so enjoy! It won’t be getting better anytime soon.

I was under the impression that in the Wild West store owners were allowed to defend themselves and their property.
Now, everything seems weighted in favor of the criminals.

CPD is always within an earshot of that mall ALL THE TIME. CPD couldn’t get there in time is total BS they just didn’t want the confrontation of a gun fight breaking out around shoppers.
The criminals run this country and every law enforcement agency will just let it continue.
I’m sure BLM is so proud of these criminals.

They’ll probably be at the next BLM march,
yelling for their supposed rights and complaining how bad others are.

Did you see pictures where you could tell the color of the thieves, I couldn’t from the pictures I saw. As someone that works in the mall I can tell you thieves come in all colors and sex.

Were CPD officers supposed to use their sonic hearing to listen for the breaking glass inside of the mall over every other sound while they were someplace else? You may be surprised to hear but the police are busy going from one call to the next and cannot be everywhere every second of the day.

Was the glass display hooked up to an alarm system? It takes time for the alarm to process. Whether the offsite vendor receives a signal and calls a responsible to determine what’s going on versus waiting for a possible false trip to pass before calling police dispatch which takes further time followed by further broadcasting to patrol. It’s not done in a flash.

@hanne, and all:

You are right: it won’t matter what color the perp is when he is swinging his sledgehammer or pointing his gun at you.

I decided 5 or more years ago that I had made my last trip to the mall.
“Some people would rather be right than be happy.” (And “alive”.)

Sorry to be harsh, but wake up!

@hanne
BLM comes in all colors, too.
What a coincidence.

Well heck, shouldn’t there have been an officer already in the area taking a vehicle burglary report ? ? ?

OH, Wait, ! ! ! . . . . Don’t you do that online now ? ? ?

Where was Kyle Rittenhouse when he was really needed?

@Robles: he’s on trial for murder cause he’s a medic and didn’t really know how to use his gun. 🙁

Well a Ca legal 10 round magazine would have taken care of them all with an extra round left.
Too bad the cops avoided the robbery purposely, even avoided all the vehicles they came in as well.

Robles, that’s what I thought. Once all the national chains leave town because of theft the only retailers left will be mom and pop shops who WILL protect their property. Then it will end.

Bring on the “Roof-top Koreans” or their tactics to protect your business!!

@ Greg

Didn’t know how to use his gun? Do you jest?

He hit 3 out of his 4 intended targets, achieved 2 kills, and even had to clear a jam while flat on his back and under extreme duress, after just being kicked in the head. He won the quickdraw content against the guy who feigned a surrender. The young man is a certified operator.

Well…. 9 at a time! They made it look easy…
Maybe they’ll do it again, or some others will notice this and do a copy cat heist!
Before long it could become a fad…. I predict a Walnut Creek store will be next…. everybody knows how easy it is to knock over a business in WC
The cops will probably just stand idle & watch.

I don’t know why everyone is so upset. I’m sure those folks were only taking what they needed. Apparently they “needed” jewels. Nothing to see here.

Just file a report online, it’s the California way of reporting criminal activity…

Now is the time for the security guards to shoot on site while this happens. Wouldn’t that be a shock if one or more of these animals got stopped immediately. I think their animal friends might take notice.

The beginning of the end.

Merry Christmas for a few Big mamas and the rest on E Bay !

Oh yea Aunt Barb., you got that right. Big Mamas, Big Papas, and all the babies. and then some.

Those comments are just plain wrong.
You think these guys stole jewelry just to give to their girlfriends?
Like that’s important enough to risk arrest & prison time… no way.
Nuh uh….they obviously plan to trade them for drugs!
Give ’em away… LoL

The bad news is we have to get accustomed to increases in violence and crime, even in the less diverse communities. The good news is climate change Is irrelevant as civilization is circling the drain now. The stupidity footprint now outpaces the carbon footprint. As Newsom is fond of saying, California is leading the way………

I’m guessing the guy in white is the leader.

I agree with the others.

The Local Police are great and will most likely catch these crooks.

The DA will not press charges.

She just doesn’t interpret the law blindly, as she should.

She favors people of color.

But people of color commit a great many more crimes.

… because they really needed diamonds … and lots of ’em.

Shocking that no description was offered in the MSM, nor on a CPD press release….But there is a pic.

I don’t think security or employees are allowed to interfere due to insurance and possible lawsuits. There have been news items about employees getting fired for “interfering” with the thieves. No wonder people are quitting jobs.

Sun Valley Mall is a low end place. It is a ghetto and getting worse. Who wants to be shopping and getting caught in the middle of that crime scene?
The DA should be thrown out. She is useless and is to be blamed for the lax treatment of criminals. Society is on its downward sprial.

First it is personal care items from the drug store. Then, it is more pricey sunglasses. Then they graduate to electronics. Now it is jewelry. All with no consequence….and the escalation continues. Allow shopowners the ability to protect their property with force (lethal if necessary), prosecute even the petty crimes vigorously and this baloney will come to a screeching halt. Until then..you get what you vote for. Enjoy.

Businesses loose $2,000/year due to theft. Costs are pasted along to costumers.
The mall needs to increase security. I witnessed a theft last year at Macy.
Since this robbery is upgraded to grand theft, can only hope that these leeches are caught and jailed.

@ Tim ~ Your high school English teacher should be fired and forbidden to teach in the USA ever again.

So doesn’t anyone else wonder why Concord PD pleasant Hill PD Contra Costa sheriff’s department none of those could get over there before these people were long gone?
I’m sorry but the local police department’s everywhere are two chicken caca to try to do anything about stuff like this they’re so afraid of being sued or taken to court etc.
There is no way in hell that there wasn’t any local PD within 2 minutes of that shopping center when this was happening.
I really feel sorry for police officers nowadays who have their hands tied and they can’t do caca about the crime out there.

@torcofuel.

“Police departments everywhere are too chicken”

No. That’s not it at all. They are simply giving the voters what they want. Over and over the voters of Contra Costa and beyond have voted for soft on crime politicians, and soft on crime propositions. They have overwhelmingly supported leach groups like BLM and the whole “defund the police” movement. The public is just salivating to catch a cop on cell video doing anything that has the possibility of going viral. Or worst yet, may get the cop brought up on charges.

This was completely foreseeable. Why should the police put themselves into a situation that may turn bad? With the complete lack of support for the police, don’t expect them to step outside the box to protect the public. It’s unfortunate, but true. As I’ve said many times. If you voted for this and now don’t understand why crime is skyrocketing, “Suck it up buttercup.” This will only change when the electorate finally gets their heads out of the sand and cleans the swamp!

I have many retired LE friends; and they’ve told me that in the past few years, a lot of cops are even afraid to make vehicle “pull-overs”, CHPl included! They just don’t want to risk getting shot (!?!)

What’s the ratio of jewelry store smash and grabs divided by the number of years ago bullet proof glass or lexan was invented?

I’d love to see them pounding plastic with hammers to no effect but hurting their wrists. I mean cmon.

They are stupid as hell…Cameras everywhere in mall, parking lot, traffic lights, cars, houses and apartments…I say when one gets caught the rest will fall quick like domino effect. I guarantee they all rat on each other so quick once they see the amount of years they get for Armed Robbery….Lol..thats y cops dont always pursue, its safer to let them get away follow them and get them at there home or hideout and add extra charges…. 1 month tops there all caught guarantee

And this is exactly why I won’t shop at Sun Valley Mall.

The soros funded DA will determine they needed the loot and all you guys are racist for thinking otherwise. I wish this was sarcasm. Anyone thinking this ain’t where we’re at is willfully ignorant. 21 months of government mandated stupidity on full display and you still acting dumb…

Hey Detective(s)

Reach out to. Lowe’s /Home Depot
In Antioch Hercules Oakland ETC
It’s the guys going thru the registers
Buying The 5 pound hammers
Get em off the footage

Charge these menaces!!!!

You really think they’re buying the hammers? You probably think all the catalytic converter thieves are buying their Sawzalls, too. 😂

Maybe there was a tiny tracking device in one of those watches.

Hey, but they are all non-violent offenders!!
In reality, it’s all thanks the POS Gavin and all the POS people who put him and all the other liberal criminal loving politicians into office.

As you who come here regularly know that I work at Macy’s in SunValley Mall. A few weeks ago 2 women grapped Addidas pants and jackets, right in front of me. As a sales associate this is frustrating and infuriating. They were close to the exit and ran out very fast, I yelled to a co worker call security, but of course they were long gone, most likely had a car waiting right outside. A few days later someone walked in, a male alone, from the mall, and cut the wires to 4 expensive Coach handbags, I didn’t see it, a customer alerted me. Just saw the back of him as he walked out to the mall.
As much as I deplore this kind of behavior and hope they get caught and punished, of course sales associates are not suppose to anything, I’m in my seventies, as is one of my co workers, another is in her sixties, and a few younger onee are slight in statue. Sales associate cannot, nor should they do anything, other than calling security when the see something suspecious. As for security guard with guns, that would make me very nervous, I have no sympathy for the thieves, but I would worry about getting caught in crossfire, or some of my coworkers, no innocent life should be lost, nor would it be worth it if someone innocent lost their life, though no fault of the own, even if the thieves got away. Can only hope they get apprehended and punished.

Good point. It must be really frustrating to see this and know there is nothing you can do.

I can’t read these comments without saying something. All the blatant and not-so blatant racist comments on here are disgusting. Obviously, what they did is terrible, but the racist comments are unacceptable. I am also heartbroken about the comments advocating for police officers to shoot them for this! I just want people to know that not everyone in Claycord thinks racism is ok. Black lives matter and comments like these put our Black neighbors in danger.

Agreed!

@AL…..just calling a spade a spade. You act like animals then you get treated like animals…Oh yeah, they’re a victim, they can’t help it….so sad.

Al, Thank you for your balanced comments. As stated I work at Macy’s and I can tell you that people that steal come in all colors and races, including white. I can also tell you we have many customer’s of all races, often pay off their Macy’s card as soon as the have made a purchase, meaning they don’t carry a balance. Most of our customers are middle class hard working people, they buy clothes for their children, for work, for parties and are nice and polite, no matter what race.

The whole BLM “movement” is racist at its core and was designed by Act blue which is a Democrat fund raising organization … follow the money it never goes back to the black community …you fell for this nonsense, why was the unemployment rate at its lowest during the last admin for pretty much every race in the last 20 years if things were so bad? you really think anyone is better off now?

MLK said it best “The white liberal is the worst enemy to America, and the worst enemy to the black man.

So Al
Where are these racist comments you refer too?

I only see reference to Black Lives Matter in 2 posts (now 3 since I wrote it). Granted one of them was intended as a joke … The criminals were not identifed by the color of their skin. Hood rats were mentioned, but those come in may different races, economics, etc … So what is your racist concern?

Well…. to be fair I gotta say….
I honestly can’t tell what race 8 of these guys are… lousy photo.
I’m sure the employee’s got a good look & the cops know… but this article didn’t say!
It would not be the first gang of thieves of different racial or ethnic groups in history.

Sorry Al, but these continued and widespread actions make it hard for a lot of people to take BLM seriously or gain movement any sympathy .

12% of the population commits most of the crime and especially the violent crime – https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2019/crime-in-the-u.s.-2019/topic-pages/tables/table-43

Guess the 12%…

I went to Wall Mart in Martinez today and had to get a clerk to unlock a glass case to get a $2.99 can of shaving.

I don’t even buy a lot of things now because I am too shy and lazy to call the clerks over to unlock those cases.
– Saving Money by Doing Without

I live about a few blocks from concord pd there are shooting here every week takes 20 minutes for them to go 3 blocks lol

Not sure if you understand how the police operate. It’s called “patrol” for a reason. They do not, and should not, be hanging around the station. Just because they place the station right next to a combat zone does not mean officers are loitering around the area.

Concord PD literally let’s the officers nap on the job in their cars while having another officer watch them as they sleep to keep them safe lol

Let’s see some proof to back up that ridiculous statement. Your statements show that you are part of the problem.

How about the jewelry stores put 1” thick glass in their jewelry cases to stop those gang member flemwads to prevent their attacks, Then they might realize getting a real job might actually be a good option to support themselves and their families…Good luck on that one…….

I used to feel safe at Sunvalley Mall. Not anymore.

A few years back you could pretty much feel safe going anywhere. The timid people elected to office now are the cause of danger. The everyone gets a trophy crowd. They are bullied by the Marxists.

All kinds of people buy jewelery in the mall, you don’t know what you are talking about.

Words to live by:

“One bad Apple spoils the whole lot.”

At some point the pendulum is going to swing back toward actually protecting law-abiding citizens and their property from criminals. I don’t know what it will require to get there because having a far-Left super-majority got California where it is today and I see no relief in sight.

The Pendulum will swing when things get so bad that even the troublemakers can’t stand it. Oakland is approaching the tipping point even now.

Were they singing “If I Had A Hammer” by any chance?

Recent article on justthenews.com about counties that have not cleaned out their voting lists in years and CCCounty was high on the list
Surprise!
The fraudulent voter rolls are vital to enable fraud especially here with mail in ballots and vote harvesting
It is certainly possible that if these voter rolls are cleaned out that Diana can be gotten rid of next year along with many of the communist cohorts on the councils and boards
It is time to get the hell rid of these communists!

@Obamavirus why should voter rolls be cleaned out? Why should citizens be deprived of their right to vote due to clerical errors?

Because dead voters are an important Democrat constituency.

It matters a lot because people who move or have died are not legal voters
Voting records are available and can be used illegally to create fake ballots from previous election data and because they hope no one will check
We are talking about thousands of votes and these local positions are often decided by just a few hundred votes
A demand letter has been sent to CCCounty election officials by Judicial Watch who have also implicated 14 other counties in 5 states
It will be very interesting to see what the county board does about it

Wait a few more weeks, with the coming of the New Year, there will be many Police and Fire retirements, quitting over mandates and no one wanting to apply for these jobs. Cities can’t afford OT now. CHP is even looking for Adult/Senior Volunteers.

So, I’m guessing the guy in white is the “Boss Man”? There’s more to come, it’s the holiday’s. Wondering if there is such a thing as crack free cabinets? But then again, they’ll rob at gunpoint! I would invest in something on the lines as the banks have….caged in and bullet proof!

Remember 10% goes to the Big Guy

In 1980, I was in Elizabeth, N.J. Staying at a Holiday Inn traveling for business, very junior level expense account. In the neighborhood was the first liquor store I had seen where the merchandise was behind chain link fence with a barred tellers window. There was a rotating platform with a partition. You put the money on it and the merchandise and the change came back.
In the Soviet Union, state stores, the only stores, had their limited merchandise behind a high counter. The clerk would show you what you were interested in. If you wanted to buy it, the clerk gave you a chit with the price. You would go to the cashier with the chit and pay. The cashier would provide a receipt with the chit which would be exchange for the merchandise. Shoplifting was minimized. In any event, there was always a patrolling policeman walking on the streets.
If we want to live as mice and not men, then we will accept the social decay that leads to such draconian measures. We need to appreciate the freedom we have had in the past where you had the freedom to examine merchandise, try it on, without surveylance and without fear of being caught in the middle of a heist, or run down by a speeding getaway in the parking lot or on city streets.
We can accept sequestration due to fear, and shop at Amazon!
However, if we want to be free which also means safe, we should insist that the police enforce the laws and that district attorney’s validate the police’ work by prosecuting. Revolving jail doors without bail only further frustrates the public as it means no matter how hard the police work, what is the point?
I would never live in N.J. after my experience in Elizabeth. That was 40 years ago, and it seems those circumstances have arrived at Buchanan Field!

JollyCholly – Bravo to you for your well reasoned and well composed analysis.

I would never live in San Francisco, Oakland, or Walnut Creek after my experiences in the Bay Area.

Biden’s current nominee to run the Office of Comptroller of the Currency has an arrest record for retail theft. They don’t care.
https://news.yahoo.com/white-house-stands-nominee-saule-142627766.html

You can draw certain reasonable conclusions from the fact that they are in a brightly lighted place and their faces are not reflecting any of that light. The first man in the photo has portions of his face uncovered which do not indicate that he is Caucasian. The man in white is wearing a mask of some kind that fully covers his face. With the exception of the man in white and under normal circumstances with the light available, one would expect to see light reflected in the faces of Caucasian individuals, were they present.

“The suspects got away before police arrived.” Shock. The police are smart enough to think things through and realize that there is no upside for them to intervene in the situation. 95% chance that any action they took would somehow result in them being villainized by the media and politicians. So why get involved? Presumably the same reason the Walnut Creek police just stood there and watched downtown be looted and vandalized. We have the police force we deserve. But we’re still paying for those sweet union-negotiated pensions, so that’s frustrating.

+1

Aw snap, BLM!

Actions are justified. They can do whatever they want. Let’s all focus on our white guilt and feel sorry for them.

why should BLM be treated differently than Kyle Rittenhouse?

BLM was a terrorist mob and Kyle Rittenhouse was protecting himself from a terrorist mob.

BLM has nothing to do with this crime. It has to do with Black men being killed without justification and police getting away with through qualified immunity. The impetus for this protest was an unarmed 24 year old man being shot 7 times in the back.

If this protest was so violent why were the only shots fired during it were from Rittenhouse’s gun?

@Doh – that was no protest, it was a violent riot including arson, looting, and armed personal attacks against Rittenhouse and others. Rittenhouse defended himself from the violent mob.

Well well well…

Now doh the racist pops up with his “informed” opinion.

I suppose you’re gonna tell us that they “needed” the jewelry.

Concord should be concerned about the mall’s spiral as I suspect the sales tax revenues contribute a significant part of the city’s finances.
When I needed paint, I would go to Sears. When I needed tools, tires, appliances, I would go there first. The aroma of the Cinnamon rolls would lure me into the great hall. Knowing the footprint of the shops, I would be drawn further along from one place to another until I reached the other contender for “anchor tenant,” JC Penny.
As time went by, the interesting shops left and there was an abundance of sneaker shacks, cap hatters, and cellphone hawkers.
My last visit as to Macy’s. I did venture into the mall to see if Spencer Gifts had any whopper cushions. My last mall purchase was a remote controlled “breaking wind” device that has provided years of amusement for our dogs.
The city and mall management should endeavor to make the mall “safe”. A jewelry store heist does not make the place a shopping destination. A nine man squad armed with hammers roaming the mall and making a clean getaway does not inspire one to go out of their to shop there.
The mall maybe past it’s prime and an artifact of an earlier era. However, given a choice of shopping destinations, I would opt for W.C. Or Pleasant Hill, or safer yet, online!
