Thanksgiving Travel Expected To Be Near Pre-Pandemic Levels

People should pack some extra patience this year if they’re traveling for Thanksgiving. Airports and highways will likely be crowded as more than 7 million Californians are expected to leave home for turkey festivities — a 14 percent increase over last year, according to AAA Northern California.

Although more Californians will be traveling than in 2020, the numbers are predicted to be slightly less than during the pre-pandemic holiday season in 2019.

“Travel volumes have recovered within 5 percent of pre-pandemic levels, and air travel has almost entirely recovered from its dramatic decline during (the pandemic), up 80 percent over last year,” said Sergio Avila, spokesperson for AAA Northern California. “Those traveling this Thanksgiving can expect to face more crowded roads and airports than they’ve seen in some time.”

Between Nov. 24 and Nov. 28, Oakland International Airport is projecting 167,000 total departing and arriving passengers to pass through the airport for the Thanksgiving holiday, based on airline schedules.

“We expect passenger traffic to be in the range of 70 to 80 percent of what was seen during the same period in 2019,” said Oakland International Airport spokesperson Kaley Skantz.

San Francisco International Airport says the lifting of the international travel ban for vaccinated visitors will mean more passenger traffic over the holidays and said with more airline seats now available, SFO anticipates reaching 60 to 65 percent of pre-pandemic passenger levels.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is not currently asking Americans to stay home if they’re vaccinated. Unvaccinated people are encouraged not to travel, and either way, masks must be worn on all forms of mass public transit.

I can’t believe this. This is going to be a Super Spreader from families hosting large gatherings to airline travel. We need Dr. Fraudci and our Department of Public Health to lock us down, encourage shelter in places, and the wearing of at least two masks while driving alone. I can just see the rise in cases and the seasonal flu will be epic. Please social distance and wash hands every hour. We’re all in this together.

That’s good that people are getting back out there and doing things and spending time with family and friends. Just make sure however that you don’t leave your kids and keys in the car when traveling.

Yes, indeed exercise safe practices in cars while traveling. As a friend told me, misbehaving kids in cars can can accidents. Accidents in cars can cause kids.

OMG, everybody is gonna die!!!!!!!

LOL.

That’s what they say about climate change. LOL.

Just remember this IS the COLD and FLU season. They’ll just try to make something out of it like a “Covid surge”. But I think they did that in the first place. 😜

Yay! Things are getting back to normal! Yay!

Travel lock down coming for Christmas, so enjoy yourselves, Turkeys.

Were not traveling, but its great to see people moving on and LIVING life!
