Contra Costa District Attorney Files Charges Against Three Men Suspected In 25 Armed Robberies

The Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office has filed felony charges against three Pittsburg men accused of robbing 25 businesses in Antioch, Pittsburg, Concord, Brentwood, Bay Point, and Clayton between August and November.

Samuel Banales-Melena, 18, Jonathan Medina-Flores, 20, and 18-year-old Rogelio Medina-Flores are suspected in the armed, three-month crime spree.

Police from Concord and Pittsburg arrested the men during a Nov. 3 traffic stop in Bay Point, shortly after they allegedly committed their final robbery in Concord.

Officers said they found evidence of the Concord robbery in their vehicle. Later searches of several homes in Pittsburg turned up evidence of other robberies, Antioch police said Monday. By Nov. 5, investigators from multiple jurisdictions made their case to the D.A.’s office, which then filed charges. Along with the businesses, the trio is also accused of robbing employees and customers.

“This case was successful due to the collaboration of the law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation,” Antioch police said. “This investigation weighed heavily on the implementation and use of technology, to include license plate-reading cameras in the city of Antioch and other technological surveillance efforts.”

Anyone with information about the robberies can contact Antioch Police Detective Smith at (925) 779-6876 or at TSmith@antiochca.gov. Anonymous tips or information can be sent via text to 274637 (CRIMES) with the keyword ANTIOCH.

WOW!

The DA actually filed charges.

It’ll be interesting to see if these guys ever make it to a trial.

I’m surprised too! And I’d be curious as how far it goes. Guessing probably nowhere that they’ll be back on the street.

Any photos of this trio? Maybe other businesses or workers have seen them around.

anonares November 9, 2021 - 8:32 AM - 8:32 AM

I would like to see their photos also. It would be helpful to see a photo of their car also. If we were allowed to have any of this information , we could determine how many times people have called to alert the powers that be, to their behavior. Give us back our community…

Their photos are on “East County Today”

Hayden Barsotti November 8, 2021 - 5:28 PM - 5:28 PM

Big deal! Nothing ever happens anyway.

Watch Beckton will reduce the charges to disturbing the peace.

The next big thing in San Francisco and the bay will be the “crackdown” on crime.

They know they’re losing in the polls, and will lose around the country for what they did by fueling and supporting the riots. They’re going to do lots of these headline grabbing “charges filed by INSERT NAME District Attorney” and then nothing will happen.

They will file the charges, make the headline, then do what they always do: pretend to do something by saying the right words but actually do nothing. The criminals will either get off or get a slap on the wrist then back on the streets to terrorize the Bay Area.

BINGO Bruh! Exactly!

First of all, great work to law-enforcement officers involved. Unfortunately, I do not have very much confidence in our WOKE D.A. I can just hear the suspects’ Public Defenders telling the presiding judge about how these young men had a tough upbringing and due to their youthful ages and lack of equity brought them to do what they did. Expect minimum sentences.

Schmee November 8, 2021 - 7:54 PM - 7:54 PM

So what businesses in Concord? I hate when news articles leave obvious questions unanswered

Amy November 8, 2021 - 8:08 PM - 8:08 PM

Maybe I watch too much TV but their lawyer will probably claim the arresting officers are “racist” or it was an “unlawful search and seizure” and these punks will be back on the street. I hope the police have a really solid case.

Ricardoh November 8, 2021 - 8:14 PM - 8:14 PM

Good job Concord police. Minimum 20 years is my guess. Lets keep tract of how this goes.

bendavis801 November 8, 2021 - 8:53 PM - 8:53 PM

Let me guess? Time served and 30 days probation. What a joke CA has become.

I wondered why cynicism amongst commenters is so rampant.

The cynicism expressed herein is pervasively true.

They are probably out of jail already on bail to continue to pillage and rob because they “needed to do this to express themselves.”

What a flipping joke that our criminal and judical system has become. Just keep voting in the liberals, leftists and progressive green “woke” crowd.

This is what you get. You all happy how it is going?

The Fearless Spectator November 9, 2021 - 7:53 AM - 7:53 AM

Why don’t they print the truthful headline:

“Faced With Irrefutable Evidence, DA Reluctantly Files Charges”

Jeff November 9, 2021 - 7:59 AM - 7:59 AM

Many of the above answers are correct……………..very little or no time in prison.

I’m sure DA Becton will take into consideration why they were robbing just like she does with LOOTING.

I see CTS and probation
