Contra Costa County has created a dashboard to track the progress to eliminate the indoor mask mandate.
Three criteria have been established to lift the current indoor masking order in our county.
We must be in the yellow tier for three straight weeks, there must be fewer than 75 COVID-19 hospitalizations and 80% of the total Contra Costa County population must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 OR eight weeks after FDA/CDC/Western States Emergency Use Authorization for COVID-19 vaccine of 5–11 year-olds.

I have an even better idea. Ditch the dashboards and mask mandates. Give the people their freedom of choice over their own bodies, worship, shopping and jobs.
Your idea is great if it was only about you. However, COVID-19 is a contagious disease. Your choices affect everyone around you and their choices affect you.
I’m not sure how his choice would affect others; if they just wear a proper mask and goggles and ear muffs and practice proper hygiene it would be tons more effective than roleplaying with surgical masks. Anyone worried about Covid can kit up to be uninfectable and the normal people can keep breathing as nature intended.
@WC Resident There is no proof the “vaccine” prevents the spread of COVID-19. And the CDC is very cagey about saying it does. They use words like “can” and “may.” They don’t know if herd immunity is even possible with or without the vaccine.
Everything I have read indicates the vaccine does not prevent the spread of COVID-19 and natural immunity to COVID-19 is superior to what you get from the vaccine. People have been fully vaccinated and died from COVID-19.

The numbers are showing that the current COVID-19 jabs do both prevention and mitigation of symptoms. Wikipedia’s article on Breakthrough infection mentions that vaccines are 85% effective at preventing varicella (chickenpox) and 88% effective at preventing mumps.
The COVID-19’s jabs are also in that range. They were 95% effective during clinical trials and 85% after 6 months at preventing infections.
If you vaccinate one million people, such as the population of Contra Costa County (roughly) and the vaccine is 85% effective then the other 15%, or 150,000 people will be catching breakthrough infections of COVID-19 at some point.
Vaccination works but is clearly one of the pieces needed to reducing the number of active cases with the eventual hope of getting it to zero. The other pieces include social distancing, masks, etc.
I made a mistake in my previous post with “… then the other 15%, or 150,000 people will be catching breakthrough infections of COVID-19 at some point.” I forgot to factor in that that not everyone catches COVID-19. Here’s an example that shows how vaccination works.
Let’s say that in a year 10% of the population catches a particular disease. A vaccine for that disease is created that is 80% effective or has a 20% breakthrough rate. If nobody gets vaccinated then 10% of a million people, or 100,000 people would get the disease. If 100% of the population gets vaccinated then 20,000 people get the disease. If 50% of the population is vaccinated then it would be 10% of the unvaccinated half (50,000 people) plus a 20% breakthrough for the vaccinated half million is 10,000 people for a total of 60,000 people with the disease. The last part with half the population vaccinated is similar to the numbers to what we are seeing today with COVID-19 in that the numbers are better than the worse case but nowhere near the best case.
Using the example number above, each additional 10% of the population vaccinated makes for 8,000 fewer cases in a year. Once enough people are vaccinated then the herd immunity effect kicks in and the number of active cases will start declining above and beyond that caused by vaccination as the disease has fewer vectors through the community. Diseases such as smallpox were eradicated via vaccination.
The FDA seems certain to approve the vaccines for children. Then the CDC advisory committee is scheduled to meet November 2 and 3.
Eight weeks after approval by the CDC puts us into early January. It’s pretty clear that the County’s order was crafted to keep the masking mandate in place until after the year-end holidays.
Until the goal posts shift again, and the election becomes the next reason to keep the emergency powers in place.
There is no end, until WE end it, individually and collectively.

So I was reading the chart. Then I clicked on the the chart. After that I clicked on the CDC link where it states 82.2% of people in Co Co County that are eligible for the Vac got it.
Yes, 82.2% of those currently eligible (currently those 16years +) have been fully or partially vaccinated but only 72% of the TOTAL population (this includes those under 16) have been vaccinated. Those are two different metrics.

Do seat bags save lives? Most people would agree they do, but they don’t save everybody.
If you actually read what the CDC says, you would find:
1) Vaccines reduce the LIKELIHOOD you will contact COVID, not completely eliminate it. Lots of reasons for this, but this is nothing new… every vaccine is only partially effective and explaining why will get tedious… talk to your doctor.
2) Vaccines also reduce the LIKELIHOOD of a serious outcome, should be have a breakthrough infections.
3) Vaccines also reduce the TIME and LIKELIHOOD you will be able to pass on the infection, should you get a breakthrough infection; the CDC has been clear that you are still capable of passing along the virus, although for a shorter period of time if you are infected.
What that means is by getting vaccinated you not only reduce YOUR risk, you reduce the risk that you will infect OTHERS.
No, you are not “safe”… but you and those around you are most assuredly “SAFER”. That is a significant difference.
You get vaccinated to protect yourself and those around you.
You wear masks to protect yourself and those around you.
Neither are a perfect solution; there IS NO perfect solution… but both prove SOME level of protection for you and the community.
This is not a black and white issue, and I will assume your question is asked in good faith… you have your answers.

As for VAERS: I know exactly what it is… and isn’t.
VAERS is NOT evidence of ANYTHING other than somebody THOUGHT they might be having a ‘bad’ after getting vaccinated. VAERS allows anybody, including non-medical professionals, to report on anything. Without analysis it is pure anecdotal noise.
Let me introduce you to what the CDC says about VAERS, it is, after all, their system:
