For a group that wants to be treated more like a car, they never obey any traffic laws. Now this gives them impunity to break our laws. All because they are too lazy to un-clip at a stop sign.
Now we will have more A-holes on the road, causing accidents because they don’t want to stop.
Yup.
They never adhered to this law anyways. Also, I believe when crossing a road, cyclists are required to WALK their bike across the road before remounting. But that’s never enforced either.
Cyclists, if they want to share the road, need to be treated like any other driver.

Well then it’s legal for anyone to do a rolling stop, they can’t single out a group and let them do it and no one else. Once the bikers start getting run over they’ll realize what a stupid idea this was.
Who think up this stupid stuff..
It’s hard to mind my own business when bicycle riders think they own the road when near me.
Road rage for me is caused by all the damn bicycle riders. They think they own the road when next to a vehicle.

From the way most of them ride anyways; stop signs, red lights, oncoming traffic .. none of it applies to them.
So my question is, who is at fault when the roll through a stop sign, without even slowing down (cause you know they will not) and get hit by a car?

They get to decide if it seems safe? This will end badly. Asking drivers and cyclists to stop at stop signs takes the guesswork out of it. Now I need to decide whether or not I think the cyclist will intuit that… nope I just don’t see this going well.
This will bring cyclists into line with all the cars that think stop signs are optional…

And yes cycling will now be a hazard to oh let me see
To any 2 ton vehicles that can’t stop when a bike does a demifornia stop then because it’s the law pulls right out in front of said vehicle and they die
While the state ….
And this is of course their vision
You die and the state sues the vehicle driver insurance
Not to mention the drivers when they see a bike anywhere will slam on their brakes causeing tons of fender benders making insurance companies hundreds of millions
All payable to the politicians
Any law a dem passes is to make them money
Dont believe me prove me wrong
We are being used as money launderers for dem politicians
Thank your dem lying neighbor
for the death of your child

Are they really that lazy? I thought the point of riding a bike was to get excercise
I actually agree and it makes much more sense for urban areas as there can be stop signs every block or two. I’ve never commuted by bike and only ride for recreation occasionally on non major roads. Riding a bike in the Richmond or Sunset district in San Francisco would become a complete chore with how many stop signs there are.
This will be treated similar to yield signs of the road when there is little to no traffic. Any bike that is in heavy traffic and runs a stop sign can still be ticketed or do not give pedestrians the right of way. This is all known as the Idaho stop and there are 9 states that have passed laws regarding it. Everyone should be respectful of using the road and have common sense and that includes pedestrians as well. I can’t count the number of times someone blindly starts walking across the street, drivers with blinders on, and cyclists that think they have the right of way over everyone.
Sounds like a good idea to me too since they already are doing it what’s the point of trying to penalize them for it. You got some weirdos on here commenting well now they’re going to make people have to stop too fast and cause fender benders I say to you maybe you shouldn’t be following so damn close. What about vehicles that couldn’t make the stop what’s the rarity of a car wreck caused by mechanical failure? It sounds like to me you just want permission to beat a butt on the road

A lot of butthurt here and misapplied anger. This is an extremely practical solution for a specific situation that makes things more efficient for both cars and cyclists.
I think it should apply to cars as well on a lot of streets.
Just as Newsom reduced the population of elderly at nursing and rehabilitation facilities by allowing the transfer in of Covid-19 infected patients, and his ban on executions of prisoners at San Quentin actually increased deaths among prisoners by doing the same, this is the Governor’s attempt to regulate the population of bike riders in California once and for all. Although it isn’t immediately discernible, there is “method to his madness.”

If the intersection is empty, I don’t see the harm. Otherwise, traffic laws should apply to both, cyclists and motorists. Cars weigh much more than bicycles, so, motorists do have a greater responsibility, for obvious reasons. As a cyclist myself, I try to make life easier for everyone,…stay out of the way (when possible), communicate intensions, and observe stop signs/traffic lights.

You obviously dont ride. At least not any significant distances.
Great idea. This is win-win and doesn’t change much in reality.
Cars don’t have to wait for a bike to slow down/speed up when they come to stops. The cyclist is still obligated to yield if a car is there first.
Cyclists don’t have to come to complete stops and waste their time and energy.
