Residents Urged To Apply For Rent, Utility Relief Ahead Of Eviction Moratorium’s End

State officials urged residents across the state Monday to seek COVID-19 rent relief funding in advance of the state’s eviction moratorium ending later this week.

The moratorium, which ends Thursday, has prevented property owners and landlords from evicting tenants who have lost income due to the pandemic and subsequently missed rent payments, provided that tenants pay a quarter of their rent each month.

With the deadline in mind, state Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency Secretary Lourdes Castro Ramirez urged renters to take advantage of the more than $7 billion the state has made available for rent and utility payment assistance.

“Applying for rental assistance is the best way to protect yourself against being evicted,” Castro Ramirez said during a briefing at Shelter Inc. in Concord, an organization seeking to prevent homelessness.

In addition to the state’s moratorium ending, some local eviction moratoria are also set to end Thursday, including Contra Costa County’s.

According to Castro Ramirez, roughly 4,800 Contra Costa County residents have sought rent relief funding totaling roughly $55 million.

Statewide, $1.69 billion in funding has been dispersed in support of households who are behind on their rent or utility payments, according to state officials.

State legislators have previously extended the moratorium multiple times, but were unable to do so past Sept. 30 before the state’s legislative session ended on Sept. 10.

In July, state legislators approved the use of $5.2 billion in federal pandemic relief funds for rent relief payments and an additional $2 billion for households behind on their utility payments.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the entirety of the funds have been allocated, according to the state.

The rent and utility relief application can be found at https://housing.ca.gov.

How about a tax credit for the rest of us who don’t use the entitlement programs!

No more Freebees. Get off your ass get a job and pay your taxes.

State, county and city (Concord) eviction moratoriums end Sept. 30, 2021. There is still rental relief available if both tenant and landlord apply for rental assistance at Housing.ca.gov. Hurry.

Aliens, aka noncitizen or immigrants, need not apply, they will automatically be enrolled. Tax dollars at work.

why do you say that?

With Help Wanted signs up everywhere?
SMH.

.
Landlords/mortgage holders don’t get relief unless the tenant applies for a bailout. Some tenants aren’t interested in applying.
.
Where is relief for landlords?
.

Get off your fat-wide entitlement behinds and get a job. There is no relief for those of us that have worked ourselves to death to support your lazy asses.

Where is the relief for the tax payers????????

The country has gone to hell in a hand basket.

You got that right

Second that !!!

So do i get reimbursed for all the rent i struggled to pay in full and on time while still going to work and exposing myself to all the unknowns? Or is it just the low life scum that got to sit home and get fat on all the free handouts from the government with unemployment bonuses and not contributing to society?

I salute the people who work for themselves, but unfortunately we are a rare breed these days in this state. Newsom and company will continue to have us pay for others which milks the remaining taxpayers to pay for his voting base. Lets hope some day the liberals will figure out that one day this will inevitably lead to their own demise…
