Martinez City Council To Decide On Repairing Storm Damage To Marina

The Martinez City Council on Tuesday will consider whether to transfer $122,705 from its general fund unassigned reserves to its marine enterprise fund, for repairs to the Martinez Marina caused by the Jan.19, 2021 storm.

The marina was hit with winds up to 74 miles per hour and swells up to 20 feet high, damaging parts of the marina beyond city maintenance staff’s normal capacity to repair.

The storm caused structural damage to three docks, caused water pipes to break in several locations, and moved two electrical transformers from their original locations. Temporary repairs were made, but more work is necessary.

In addition to repairing docks and replacing floating equipment, the city will also have to dispose of 1.8 tons of treated wood waste.

At Tuesday’s meeting, the council will also get a report from City Manager Eric Figueroa regarding future repairs to the city’s fishing pier, which is a separate project.

Tuesday’s virtual meeting starts at 7 p.m. and can be accessed by going to https://zoom.us/join (webinar ID: 828 3315 5234, passcode: 889892).

first might want to think about a break wall since this happens often

but this part is a quandary
general fund unassigned reserves<<<< what the ….so why do cities have this
and who is i n charge of watching it
is this not taxation without representation
taxes are for things that have a fixed costs why the surplus

Figure out a way to get some ‘America Rescue Plan’ money. Seems they will have enough to hand out, ask Gavin for some help. Promise him a photo op in front of a brand new marina.

Swells up to 20 feet high ? In Martinez ?
If I told you once I told you a million times to quit exaggerating.

How about providing new water pipes to avoid the weely main breaks that they have?
