Spare The Air Extended Through Tuesday

Air district officials extended a Spare the Air Alert through Tuesday as wildfire smoke and haze linger in Bay Area skies.

The region has seen air pollution spike in recent days due to car exhaust, high temperatures and smoke.

“Climate change is impacting our region with more frequent wildfires and heat waves leading to poor air quality,” said Veronica Eady, senior deputy executive officer of the Air District. “We can all help by driving less to reduce smog and improve air quality when respiratory health is top of mind for us all.”

Air pollution can cause throat irritation, congestion, chest pain, trigger asthma, inflame the lining of the lungs and worsen bronchitis and emphysema, air district officials said.

Long-term exposure to ozone can reduce lung function. Ozone pollution, or smog, is particularly harmful for young children, seniors and those with respiratory and heart conditions.

When a Spare the Air Alert is issued, outdoor exercise should be done only in the early morning hours when ozone concentrations are lower.

What else is new!

They should call it something else.
Every time I see “Spare the Air Day” I think of spare ribs …. then I wind up starting the smoker.

How about “Preserve the O2 Day” ?
The worst that’ll do is make me eat some strawberry or apricot preserves.

This topic is repetitive and useless..

You can say that again.

It’s everyday in CA. If it isn’t the AQ, it’s the smell coming out of Sacramento…

Serious question: How do they know how to differentiate between particulates from the fires, and car pollution? Different chemical composition of the particulates?

Today was beautiful in the east bay…spare the air day my butt..

If they did what I told them we wouldn’t need spare the air days. Get people sick and burn down forests and houses or spend some money.

Well I sure enjoyed taking the weekend away from the news … guess I missed the spare the air nonsense. oops … should I expect a ticket from someone for smoking this weekend?

I did not miss the 20 pounds of pork ribs slow cooked over the charcoal grill or the 20 pounds of short ribs cooked over the gas grill. The charcoal only smoked for 2 hours or so … the gas was on for about 15 minutes total (2 batches of short ribs). They were very tasty.

It was Neanderthal Man constantly barbecuing mammoth ribs that ended the Ice Age & began global wa… err….climate change

BTW…..What’s the appropriate term now…..climate change, climate crisis, climate emergency or climatic breakdown? I don’t want to appear ignorant when I’m up on my soapbox in the town square expousing my perspective.

Some are using the term AOCITIS.

I think they settled on “climate change” because that pretty much covers all the changes.
If it’s too hot…. climate change !
Getting colder….. climate change !
Too much rain…. climate change !
Drought… climate change !
Too much ice …. climate change !
Hurricanes, tornadoes, ocean too warm, ocean too cold, ocean level rises or drops, wild fires, too much wind, not enough wind, climate change covers it all.
