The East Bay Regional Park District and the labor union representing its workers celebrated a tentative labor agreement Tuesday, preventing a planned strike during Labor Day weekend.

The three-year contract is the culmination of eight months of negotiations, according to the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 2428, which represents the district’s 600 park rangers, firefighters, accountants and educators.

“Our employees are the heart of EBRPD, and we have jointly negotiated a fair and sustainable contract that reflects value and respect for their service,” park district general manager Sabrina Landreth said in a statement. “I am grateful for the partnership with Local 2428 in reaching an agreement.”

The union is expected to vote to ratify the agreement Wednesday. The district’s Board of Directors will then vote on the deal in September.

“By coming together, we’ve won an historic agreement to bring respect and fair pay to 600 hard working people who proudly keep East Bay parks clean, safe and open for all to enjoy,” park supervisor and AFSCME 2428 President Chris Newey said in a statement. “We look forward to enjoying Labor Day weekend with thousands of park visitors.”

The tentative agreement includes pay increases of at least 3 percent per year over all three years for park employees, some of whom have had to work additional jobs in the past, according to the union.

Park rangers will receive an additional 5.75 percent each year, with some rangers receiving an additional $500 per month as soon as November, according to the union.

The total value of the agreement is more than $29 million over three years.

The cost to camp at the new campground near the Dumbarton Bridge is between 45 and 75 dollars a night. We used to camp at PG&E campgrounds and slip two dollars in an envelope every day. There I could put my boat in the water in a beautiful lake for free and fish all day. I’m old but not that old.

Ricardoh, was that PG&E camp the one above Paradise by Magalia? We went there several times when I was a boy in the mid-60s.

We used to go to a few of them. Up above Paradise we used to go to Bucks Lake. Thats a great place with a good camp ground. We also went to lakes on Carson Pass and also near Mammoth.

Now that PG&E has burned down half the state, they had to raise their rate to $1,000 / night.

You might want consider blaming Newscum, Tree Huggers, Sierra Club and many many others when discussing who burned down the state.

PG&E is NOT allowed to cut down some of the trees impacting their lines because it might bother some neighbor or some moose antler mouse spotted owl creature. And then they are NOT to raise rates to do system improvements (of course they could cut some of the outrageous salaries they pay) ….

So it is not just them.

Sierra club says no, we must save that tree.

Newscum will not force them to do it …

so, PG&E is not the only one to blame.

“Parent”… You are so right… they love to blame it on PG&E. Never mind college professors starting fires, homeless people, marijuana growers and lightening starting the fires, ….. They prefer to blame PG&E and try to sue them.

$29,000,000 over three years.
600 employees.
Average $16,000 per employee per year.
Nice gig if you can get it.

Public sector unions and corrupt Democrat politicians are destroying this state.

This statement from the general manager sums up what is wrong with the bureaucrats and politicians in charge of making deals with these unions. “Our employees are the heart of EBRPD”

No Sabrina. The heart of the EBRPD are the citizens and tax payers. Your job is to represent us, not the unions. As with many of these negotiations the tax payer has no seat at the table. Democrats will always appease their union friends, and Democrats overwhelming control our local and state governments.

Perfect. Agree 100%. Also, it bugs me when people refer to politicians as our “leaders”. They are not our leaders, they are supposed to be our “representatives”. Other states use the term representatives and I moved to one earlier this year. I can say comfortably, no regrets.
