The air quality is bad in Contra Costa County right now due to the wildfires around Northern California.
According to PurpleAir.com, everyone may begin to experience health effects if they are exposed for 24 hours; members of sensitive groups may experience more serious health effects.

Opened all the house windows this morning then went into my library and closed the door behind me to work and read the news. Couple hours later decided to get a cup of coffee. When I opened the door I thought our house was on fire. This fire stuff is getting out of control. Since most of the state is now burned up next year should be pretty much wild fire free.
Ricardo: I was thinking [𝚌𝚘𝚞𝚐𝚑] the same thing; if there are [𝚌𝚘𝚞𝚐𝚑] no more trees left, what’s left to burn? [𝚌𝚘𝚞𝚐𝚑 𝚌𝚘𝚞𝚐𝚑]
Beware of the big orange ball in the sky
The local weather guys were all over this “story” for the last several days . . . It shouldnt be a surprise.
Mike couldn’t even see the orange ball this morning.

omg wow but who would be in this smoke for 24 hours
oh thats right the firefighters that everyone complains about
that are not only in the middel of all that smoke but the heat and fire raging as well …the heat
yet you still
ugh they get more money than me
ugh they get more retirement than me
ugh the AC in my office sucks
ugh its smokey so much for getting lunch from the food trucks
ugh when my smoke break
.
Quick! Implement another tax to address this crisis!

Not to brag or anything, but our AQI is currently 36.
If the state, and much of the West for that matter, managed forests better, there would be fewer fires, and they would be smaller and less intense. Thin forests, conduct controlled burns, don’t let people build in the middle of a forest, have proper fire breaks…this is all Fire Science.
yeah, no one cares about your AQI but thanks for playin!
The purpleair sensor in my south PH backyard has been reading about 170 since 10 am. Smoke really increased in the prior hour, as it read 100 at 9 am.
Our Honeywell HEPA air purifiers (HPA300 series) do a fabulous job keeping our home air smoke free, pet dander free, and fresh. Originally got a couple 5 or so years ago, then added units for wildfire smoke. We have 8 staged and running throughout the house, keep them on germ setting running 24/7.
The instructions say you need to replace the pre-filter when change filter light comes on, but you can actually vacuum the filter clean many times before it wears and needs replacement. The HEPA filters (each unit has 3) have required replacing for us between 8 and 14 months. It’s incredible how dirty they are then, compared to the bright white new filters.
Highly recommend this unit for air purification. One of the best household purchases we’ve made.
Do you know if they help for hay fever? I get it bad every spring.
@anonymous – We’ve found they work great for environmental allergens/hay fever. That’s what we initially bought them for. When outside allergens are high, I am fine inside, but (without taking Benadryl) I will get a runny nose and watery eyes almost immediately after going outside.
The units have a stronger air-drawing allergen setting, but we’ve found keeping the units on the lower (and very quiet) germ setting is sufficient year round, particularly since we keep them running all of the time.
And electricity use by the units is minimal. I tested one on germ setting, and the draw was only 47 watts. At the most powerful setting, allergen plus the amped up turbo button for quick air cleaning, the draw was 108 watts.
We ordered the units and get replacement filters on Amazon. The HEPA filters are a bit expensive, but we’ve only had to replace them every 12 months on average. And that’s running the units on germ setting 24/7.
@Mary Fouts Thanks for the info. Do you know if the air purifier can run while the A/C is on? I don’t think A/Cs typical have HEPA filters and if the A/C reintroduces what was filtered out, that would suck.
Looks like Trump forgot to “rake” the 53% of National Forests in CALIFORNIA that were operated and maintained by the Federal Govt while he was in office for 4 years.

It’s a lot easier when the state AG (current HHS secretary) isn’t suing you over the matter for the entire duration of your term.
@Law & Order
Time to free yourself of the TDS.
The Sierra Club wouldn’t let him.
We’ve been very lucky the past several weeks(5 or 6 or so?).
I can see another lock down due ti smoke.
Awesome………where’s my $1050 a week?
We had a fabulous AQI of 377 for the high and 193 for the low.
And since there have been no rain storms in the Sierra since July 19, that leave a stupid on stupid human who started both the Dixie and Caldor fires
