Congressman Mark DeSaulnier announced he will host a town hall today from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on addressing the growing behavioral and mental health crisis.
The event will be held live on Zoom and on DeSaulnier’s Facebook page.
DeSaulnier will be joined by the following people to discuss mental health issues:
- Dr. Suzanne Tavano, Director of Contra Costa Behavioral Health Services
- Dr. Elissa Epel, Professor of Psychiatry at UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences

I read recently that modern potent strains of marijuana are causing depression and psychosis in people who may be prone to mental illness through heredity but would probably be okay had they not overindulged in strong marijuana use.

Modern medicine really isn’t much up on this but obviously marijuana is a depressant, something that might aid someone who is manic, hyper or neurotic in their behavior. People who have a slower metabolism are naturally more prone to depression. They often prefer stimulants like coffee.

There have been multiple studies to suggest marijuana use can bring on schizophrenia earlier in those who may be prone to it.
Modern marijuana is orders of magnitude more powerful than what was smoked in the 60s and 70s.

Most Marijuana is hybrid of what used to be a pure plant. Now it has been hacked to give the most physco-active abilities it can.
Anytime you do this, the side effects will be different from what the original had. Hence, the more Schizophrenia and other manic personalities happen.

His office announced it yesterday for a meeting today, there is no posted agenda and kind of looks to me like something he can rip through before the oven timer goes off to add cheese to the top of the casserole. The mental health crisis is obviously in Congress, on both sides of the aisle these days. Start there. Also, let us know who’s taking Alzheimer’s drugs besides Joe and Pelosi.
Just a guess, but we could probably add Mark to that list. He doesn’t seem mentally capable of doing anything but the easy stuff. An individual who needs health care, a local park that needs funding, a one hour zoom about mental health where we will probably have to hear for the hundredth time about his father. This sounds like city council stuff. He is such a slacker that it would be funny if it wasn’t so infuriating.
Mark should lead by example & have himself voluntarily committed.

They should repeal Prop 47 & 57 and enforce Prop 36 and bring back FADS court ( felony alternative drug sentencing)
The vast majority of these people are drug addicts and would benefit from Prop 36 and FADS services (mandatory drug treatment for drug offenses and drug addicts who commit felonies instead of jail time).

88th congress which passed knee jerk bill forcing mental health treatment down onto local level, should come as no surprise, was DEM controlled.
Bill resulted in mentally ill being dumped onto our streets.
Our First Responders repeatedly have to deal with same individuals. Usually and sadly until a sufficiently violent criminal act results in persons arrest.
