About 32K Vehicle Tolls Overcharged At Golden Gate Bridge Since Early April

The Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District is providing refunds to tens of thousands of people who were overcharged at the bridge in the past couple of months, a district spokesman said.

The issue involved people in two-axle vehicles like a standard vehicle or pickup truck being overcharged at the toll rate for multi-axle vehicles like a car towing a trailer. The district has identified about 32,000 such transactions since early April, which spokesman Paolo Cosulich-Schwartz said is less than 1 percent of all transactions over that time period.

The bridge district said people who were charged the incorrect toll should expect to see a refund within four to six weeks. FasTrak customers will receive a refund credit to their account, while customers who already paid the overcharged toll via invoice will receive a refund in their original form of payment.

The district recommends that people contact FasTrak only if they do not see their refund arrive within four to six weeks since its customer service is experiencing higher than usual call volumes.

How about the Transportation District paying interest and a fine? That’s what they would have charged us if we were at fault!

Same thing happened with the Benicia bridge.
Being put on hold for 52 minutes was worth the wait, as they
Removed the $25 late fee on the $6 toll fee. Also, They wouldn’t let me pay another $6 toll fee because It was “too early” to make the payment. I had to wait on hold for another 48 minutes in order to pay that fee which was the following month. Moral of the story is I’m not crossing any bridges until the workers come back.

You can register the plate of your car (I have a very unique NV Raider plate) online with a credit card and they can charge that way. No waiting forever for a bill. I did this when the change the toll from $5 to $6. I normally make 4-5 trips back to the area annually and this method has worked great. While I would always have a $5 in my wallet I couldn’t guarantee the $1 and waiting for change holding up others was a pain.
But I also agree the workers need to be brought back for those that are uncomfortable with the current system

Total automation…Gee what could possibly go wrong (snark snark).
I did register my plate online so for my few trips down when I go the 680 to 80 to 50 route home it has worked well. And since I have a very unique plate NV plate it’s pretty hard tor a system error to occur

Accidently, on purpose? Is this where they show you the sign, “We rob the other guy, and pass the savings on to you”?

So glad we made a right turn out of California and tossed that transponder into the landfill!
