So the victim is from Vallejo, and the shooter is from from Martinez. What were they doing in Walnut Creek at 11pm? Selling drugs? Robberies, burglaries?
Oh, I guess I could be wrong, and I shouldn’t be judgmental: maybe they were shopping at Nordstrom’s.

slim June 18, 2021 - 1:45 PM - 1:45 PM

There is a lot of bar nightlife in downtown WC. It’s pretty ratchet down there. I feel much more at home in Concord.

Dudeman00 June 18, 2021 - 1:47 PM - 1:47 PM

Drinking?

Paul June 18, 2021 - 2:17 PM - 2:17 PM

My bet is on road rage.

Random June 18, 2021 - 2:30 PM - 2:30 PM

So because they are not from Walnut Creek they aren’t supposed to be in Walnut Creek? Dumb comment and honestly not at all important. Someone died and someone is a murderer.

WC---Creeker June 18, 2021 - 3:03 PM - 3:03 PM

@M

Come to my WC neighborhood. Not “white washed” but a bunch of wealthy people of all nationalities. Most went to the top universities in this state and have their own businesses or they are executives at some local major corporations. Your comment is 15-20 years out of date.

When the facts come out, you are going to wish Claycord had a delete comment option.

Aunt Barbara June 18, 2021 - 4:09 PM - 4:09 PM

Nordstrom closes early. My bet is Bourbon Highway shenanigans or Civic Park drug deal. while the Mayor and cohorts arefst asleep dreaming of Art projects to litter the City.

Concordian June 18, 2021 - 4:28 PM - 4:28 PM

People go out on Thursday nights in downtown WC. Especially now that things have been opening back up.

Shiloh June 18, 2021 - 4:49 PM - 4:49 PM

@Janus

Why don’t you give the info now, since you seem to know, and put a stop to the speculation

Janus June 18, 2021 - 9:37 PM - 9:37 PM

Shiloh

Nope, not my place say and there are still outstanding murder suspect(s).

I will say this, when did it become acceptable to blame the murder Victim based on absolutely nothing but prejudices and supposition?

The Victim is from Vallejo so therefore he must be a bad man up to no good. No way he could be doing anything lawful at the ungodly hour of 11PM like say making food deliveries for a National on line deliver service. Nope he was “just matter out of place”. “Those people” just don’t belong in Walnut Creek at all, especially after dark. Nudge nudge wink wink Bob’s your Uncle.

Original G June 18, 2021 - 12:45 PM - 12:45 PM

License plate readers ? ? ?

Wizard713 June 18, 2021 - 2:37 PM - 2:37 PM

Yep. Both installed in fixed locations and portable as small trailers.

Jeff June 19, 2021 - 7:40 AM - 7:40 AM

Plate readers only help if the car is stolen or there are warrants attached to the plate. They help, but not perfect.

WC---Creeker June 18, 2021 - 12:48 PM - 12:48 PM

Just another reminder to pay your drug dealer on time.

RANDOM TASK June 18, 2021 - 12:53 PM - 12:53 PM

yet again more reason for plate readers

its funny how the dem voters always cry racist and equity

but when crime is out of control they want to rid the guns

and release more criminals from prison

they say no cameras

yet every dem always brings a edited video as proof of racism and equity

every dem prods a citizen so they can make a short clip of racism and equity and self absorption

yet put up anything to stop crime and its all of a sudden frowned upon as racist

slim June 18, 2021 - 1:49 PM - 1:49 PM

Of the 5 city council members in WC only 1 is a dem, the rest are republicans.

Darwin June 18, 2021 - 3:00 PM - 3:00 PM

@slim
There are rules to the exception. But Democrats have a monopoly on race baiting. Segregation, Jim Crow and the KKK. I was hoping they would wise up, but NO. Now they are pushing critical race theory.
Question, what democratic state runs well? NONE 😂

Aunt Barbara June 18, 2021 - 4:11 PM - 4:11 PM

sorry slim they are all Dems with maybe one borderline Republican

slim June 21, 2021 - 2:08 PM - 2:08 PM

Not true Barbara. Look at the City website. They rotate turns at Mayor. The current guy at Mayor is the lone Dem. Just facts please.

Mr Pink June 18, 2021 - 1:06 PM - 1:06 PM

please keep your violence in your own neighborhoods.

WhoDat Gurl June 18, 2021 - 1:26 PM - 1:26 PM

RIP Vallejo resident. I’m sorry this happened, no matter the circumstances.

Note to criminals: there are cameras everywhere now. You will not get away with murder (literally).

Chris June 18, 2021 - 5:04 PM - 5:04 PM

Not true, San Francisco has the lowest rate of homicide prosecutions in the state. And if you are arrested for murder, you have a 32% chance of being convicted.

RANDOM TASK June 18, 2021 - 1:48 PM - 1:48 PM

yeah query

so most of the crimes obviously not the ones smothered by media
but most are solano county for what ever reason and oakscamland

rearely does a matz roll into anywhere and start trouble

they have no reason to

i mean its mtz the refineries alone are enough to quell bad thoughts
as from all of the health issues
its not their vibe

so i personally would be leaning towards self defense but will wait for proof and circumstance

Disappointed June 18, 2021 - 1:51 PM - 1:51 PM

People lack compassion. Rest In Peace to the person that died. Shame on the people who pass judgement… your day will come to be judged, and then you will see.

Dawg June 18, 2021 - 3:41 PM - 3:41 PM

Your statement, “People lack compassion.” is a judgement based on the comments you read. You cannot get into peoples minds, therefor you have no idea if they lack compassion. Maybe they are simply expressing their thoughts and frustrations because so much violent crime is being committed.

Bdpirate June 18, 2021 - 2:36 PM - 2:36 PM

And some of my friends question why I carry a gun..if someone shoots at me or even points a gun at me I’m gonna fightback and not be a unarmed dummy.

Dorothy June 18, 2021 - 2:41 PM - 2:41 PM

I usually avoid Walnut Creek because of the parking. Now I’m starting to wonder if it starting to go the way Oakland and San Francisco.

Bob June 18, 2021 - 3:24 PM - 3:24 PM

I’m afraid I have some bad news for you….

Darwin June 18, 2021 - 2:53 PM - 2:53 PM

To all the DEMOCRATS who want to DEFUND the police. Pay attention, this is why law enforcement in needed. Imaging no police???

Paul June 18, 2021 - 3:55 PM - 3:55 PM

Defund the police? Good luck with that! Our fine LEOs are barely get paid enough for thankless and dangerous job of protecting citizens just as they did when some of them were in the military. Defunding (aka reallocate fund) could cause officers to look for other jobs so who will protect the community? On the other hand, the officer who stay for various reasons (i.e serve the time until collecting pension) could go rouge and become the former Sargent Wayne Jerkins and his crew of the Baltimore Police Department.

BLM can suck a lemon and stop advocating defund the police

Luke June 18, 2021 - 5:00 PM - 5:00 PM

More police isn’t going to stop someone from shooting someone else genius

Sally Carter June 18, 2021 - 7:15 PM - 7:15 PM

Defund the police does not mean disband police departments. It means hiring and creating alternative teams to handle situations that do not require potential lethal force, such as when a person needs help with a loved one with mental health problems. Several of these individuals have been shot and killed when they were loud, making wild movements, and not complying with officers’ instructions because the officers have no training for dealing with these issues and the person is mentally ill and does not really understand what is being asked of them. In this case – not a mental health call – regular officers would always be dispatched, but if someone’s adult, severely autistic child was very upset, yelling, smashing things, and the person alone was unable to calm them down, they wouldn’t have to worry about their child being shot when they called for assistance. I admit the phrasing is awful – I mean, really “defund the police”? – but the concept is sound and will prevent unwarranted suffering or deaths of those with mental issues from happening. Please stop propagating this misunderstanding.

Darwin June 18, 2021 - 9:17 PM - 9:17 PM

@ Sally Carter
On paper mental health response teams sound great. However, Anytime the situation appears the least bit dangerous , these mental health teams refuse to engage. The stats will come out eventually. It may take awhile. These teams are already in west county.

remember June 19, 2021 - 7:10 AM - 7:10 AM

it is sad how some have fallen for the lies about “defund the police”. how somehow it means teams will be put together to handle mental health issues. it doesn’t. it means plain and simple, give money to blacks. it is just another example of reparations. which is truly a joke, anyone know a living slave? didn’t think so.

Liar! Liar! June 19, 2021 - 7:23 AM - 7:23 AM

The Defund the Police movement did advocate for disbanding police departments, and anyone who tells you differently is propagating a lie. But the blowback caused them to walk-back that narrative but not their intent.

Jeff June 19, 2021 - 7:44 AM - 7:44 AM

SALLY IS COMPLETELY WRONG!

California training standards for all law enforcement officers mandates a class on dealing with individuals with mental health issues.

Sally knows nothing.

To Do List June 19, 2021 - 9:28 AM - 9:28 AM

I believe the Defund the Police people have unreasonable expectations as if getting a mental health professional to a site is like crossing a finish line. I know a couple of cases where they made things much worse.

Ricardoh June 18, 2021 - 3:17 PM - 3:17 PM

Great work. If this was Chicago the perp would sitting with bro’s having a drink or weed or something stronger. Lets hope our illustrious DA doesn’t give him no pay bail.

Concord74 June 19, 2021 - 9:30 AM - 9:30 AM

Ricardoh: you are a dreamer re: Becton!

Carebear June 18, 2021 - 4:09 PM - 4:09 PM

Why don’t we release the suspects name and address? We do it for police.

Rumor June 18, 2021 - 4:20 PM - 4:20 PM

It could possibly be a juvenile

Shiloh June 18, 2021 - 4:48 PM - 4:48 PM

I agree! Someone should be writing legislation prohibiting the release of police officer names until an investigation has been done. I’m going to write to Kevin Kiley about it

Concord74 June 19, 2021 - 9:32 AM - 9:32 AM

To “Rumor”: so what if it is a juvenile?? He/she committed an adult crime! TOUGH!

JoJo June 18, 2021 - 5:02 PM - 5:02 PM

LOUD ANGRY NOISES!

Halloran June 18, 2021 - 9:13 PM - 9:13 PM

Crime pipeline between Oakland-Antioch. Wal. Creek, Orinda, Lafayette are victims of this crime highway. Im guessing one of the cars is a 10 yr old BMW with tinted windows.

Wait a minute June 18, 2021 - 11:05 PM - 11:05 PM

Or Malibu…or Charger…or Lexus…or Chrysler 300…

Jeff June 19, 2021 - 7:48 AM - 7:48 AM

Friends,

Walnut Creek has changed. Thanks to liberal elected officials and liberal judges, offenders know that the chance of being sent to prison for a long period of time is small. Be prepared, and our local police are no longer out to protect you, they have a target on their backs from the local DA.

The Fearless Spectator June 19, 2021 - 2:22 PM - 2:22 PM

Murders in Walnut Creek are up 100% since last year and we are only six months into 2021. Even though the number is small compared to other cities, this will hurt downtown business while they are trying to restart. The seniors will stay home; they don’t need this crap.

But hey, soft on crime invited the riff raff. Walnut Creek should expect cashless shopping, cashless bail, and periodic gunfire. It appears Walnut Creek is becoming progressive.
