Lucille’s Smokehouse BBQ, located at the Sunvalley Mall in Concord, was forced to close due to a cockroach infestation on May 17, according to the Contra Costa County Department of Environmental Health.

Health Inspectors say they found the following during their inspection on May 17:

  • Two live nymph cockroaches observed on metal panel behind fryer and three live nymph cockroaches observed near/behind refrigerated top inserts where fry batter is stored at main cook line.
  • Multiple gaps/openings/crevices observed at cook line area where cockroaches were observed.
  • Grease and food debris buildup also observed below and on the sides of cooking equipment at main cook line.
  • Slight mold-like buildup inside soda gun nozzle at bar.

The restaurant has since been cleaned, re-inspected and reopened.

On the new menu…
Smoked roaches with honey bbq sauce.

I thought they shuddered for good. Bjs has a vibe thats a million times better sry but its true.

I never ate at BJ’s…. I went in there when they first opened… I saw the sign & ran in, but I didn’t realize it was a restaurant until after I ordered…I was too embarrassed to ever go back.

I feel for the restaurants that reside on mall property. Everything there is infested with insects and rodents (and more recently the homeless) but the Department of Environmental Health decided to stick it to Lucille’s this time. BJs is next, then they’ll do what all other national chains have done in this area…..leave. This mall ceased to be relevant several years ago, and beyond being a speed dating hub for the county’s at risk population, they should probably just level the property and start over. Maybe a roach or rat infested rehabilitation center would be more useful.

Not surprised. When I go to Sunvalley I can see rat traps laying around outside. I won’t eat at any of the food places there. There have been persistent problems from one end to the other.

Would you rather they didn’t do anything about the rats? I think trapping them outside is probably the least offensive solution.

Rats eat roaches you know.

+1

years ago working at a pizza parlor we would scour it every night after closing, it was costly and time consuming, nowadays things are different, sanitary guidelines are stricter and closer monitored, but many establishments are understaffed to maintain high sanitary requirements… There’s probably some level of violation at all of them. So, understand, when another person(s) is growing, raising, harvesting, and preparing your food, you get what you get…

Not sure they have to be checked every night but certainly often. You would think every restaurant manager would have that in mind.

I’m really glad that so far the restaurants I go to have not been shut down due to an infestation.

No matter what the restaurant will do, it will re-occur. Unless they fumigate the whole sun valley mall.
For just one restaurant to try to fix the problem is like finding a needle in the haystack

If it’s anything like Coldstone Creamery then they will get at least 6 more chances to reopen and close.

We are getting back to normal. Restaurants being shut down for roach infestations.

Lucille’s BBQ is not good, how people can eat that garbage is beyond me.
I’m surprised the cockroaches like it..

I laughed out loud at this comment. Thank you for making me laugh.

That’s just gross. Management that allowed that in the first place should be fired. I wouldn’t even give it a second chance if I had even thought of going (which I haven’t). This is just disgusting.

I’ve been to this place twice over the years and while the food was fine I thought it was wildly overpriced for what it is. I am willing to buck up for “to die food” food now and again, but nothing wowed me. What am I missing?

Every restaurant will experience roaches at some point. They come in with the deliveries, especially vegetables. However, the grease issue and the mold on the soda gun are management issues. I hope they don’t end up being frequent flyers on the Health Department list like Cold Stone. Contrary to others, we enjoy their food and the service is always good. Get your act together Lucille’s!
