California will reopen on June 15 without any capacity limits or physical distancing requirements for businesses or events, the state’s Health and Human Services secretary said Friday.
Gov. Gavin Newsom last month announced the expected June 15 reopening date, which state officials on Friday confirmed as COVID-19 case numbers and hospitalizations continue to drop and the number of people vaccinated continues to increase.
Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly on a call with reporters Friday said COVID-related hospitalizations are down to levels not seen since the start of the pandemic, while vaccines are available with no wait throughout the state for everyone ages 12 and up.
As a result, California will end its tiered system of restrictions for counties as it lifts the capacity and distancing limits on June 15.
“Those requirements of the past are no longer needed for the foreseeable future,” Ghaly said.
He said the state will be laying out recommendations and guidelines for vaccine verifications for businesses but will not be creating any sort of vaccine passport system.
Dee Dee Myers, a senior advisor to Newsom, said confirming the June 15 reopening date is “a really important milestone as we move forward” and “will allow people to really plan in detail” for their businesses or events in the coming weeks and months.
“We’re still in the middle of that transition, and not sure what the next normal is going to look like,” Myers said.
Ghaly said a priority will be working with local school districts to make sure K-12 schools are fully reopening for the new school year, and said while vaccines were recently made available for people as young as 12, vaccine eligibility for children ages 2-11 might not happen until the late summer or early fall.
As California reopens fully, public health officials anticipate that COVID-19 cases will rise, but Ghaly said he doesn’t think it will have a significant impact on the state’s hospital systems given current levels of vaccination, and there won’t be any new metrics counties will need to reach to stay out of further capacity or social distancing restrictions.
Soooo cases may rise and people will get sick/die, but as long as we don’t clog up the hospitals, we can have restaurants again? Get the heck outta here!!!!

Did you actually read and understand the results of their studies? YES, the virus can pass right through the mask (as determined by the small particles in the tests), BUT the virus isn’t able to live out in the open air, and needs respiratory droplets to survive, and those are MUCH bigger and ARE trapped by the mask…

Even if the state drops the mandate, some businesses still may want to enforce their own mask policies for non-vaccinated people. The state is already arresting people who are producing and procuring fake vaccination cards. Faking the cards is a Federal crime.

There was just recently an arrest of someone in Clements, California who distributed fake vaccine cards. I am 100% not lying about this.
You can’t fake a card for yourself or for other people. You can’t download a fake card or purchase a fake card. If a person is caught trying to use a fake vaccine card, they could be subject to a fine. People caught distributing fake cards to other people could be subject to fines or arrest. @sam: Our AG isn’t Becerra anymore. There is a FBI office here in Concord. You can take your fake vaccine card there and ask them if its illegal. The vaccine cards have government seals for the CDC and the Dept of Health and Human Services. Misuse of the seals to falsify paperwork is a crime per Section 1017 of Title 18 of US code. It’s fraud.

28 years as a police officer and I have NEVER had a Postal Inspector get involved in theft of mail caper and I’ve tried several times. I couldn’t even get them to call me back. The FBI and bank robbery prosecution isn’t much better. Serials or violence is about the only time they are interested and only after the locals arrest the jackass.

Wearing a mask does not protect the wearer. So if you’re wearing a mask, and you’re not sure if someone without a mask has been vaccinated or not, you’ll probably be alright if you just stay out of their face.
I have been with people who tested positive over the last 15 months. I deliberately went to see them and give them a hug, be in their air space and try to “catch” COVID. None of them were able to give me THE COVID. Science says one of two things is true. You get to pick only one.
1. I have god like superior genes.
