USPS Asks Homeowners To Inspect & Repair Mailboxes

The U.S. Postal Service is asking homeowners to inspect and repair their mailboxes during Mailbox Improvement Week.

Each year, the Postal Service designates the third full week of May as “Mailbox Improvement Week” to encourage customers to examine and, where necessary, improve the appearance of their mailboxes.

“Repairing suburban and rural mailboxes improves the appearance of our community and makes delivering and receiving mail safer for our letter carriers and customers,’ says District Manager Michael Mirides.

“The Postal Service makes this annual request because of the wear and tear that occurs to mailboxes every year,” adds Mirides.

Some of the typical activities homeowners may need to do include:

  • Replacing loose hinges on a mailbox door
  • Repainting a mailbox that may have started to rust or peel
  • Remounting a loosened mailbox post
  • Replacing or adding house numbers

“If a homeowner plans to install a new mailbox or replace a worn one, he or she must use only Postal Service – approved traditional, contemporary or locking full/limited service mailboxes,” said Mirides. “Customers must be careful when purchasing curbside mail receptacles because the use of unapproved boxes is prohibited. Customers may use a custom-built mailbox, but they must consult with their local post office to ensure it conforms to guidelines applying to size, strength and quality of construction.”

Information on the use of names or numbers on mailboxes or answers to any other questions can be obtained from your local postmaster.

I don’t recall me or my friends smashing mailboxes in my rebel youth but if ever one was asking to get knocked down it’s that silly one in the pic. Thanks for the Friday funpic. Should be a new column on claycord hehe

New mailboxes are $17.59 on Amazon Prime. Now let’s have a discussion on how the USPS has been spying on it’s American customers…

Say the people who can’t even deliver the mail on time and spy on us.

Wondering if they could be using their resources and manpower to catch, prosecute and publicize jail time for mail thieves, as they are on domestic intelligence gathering. Getting tired of mail being stolen.

Think back, when was last time you heard of a mail thief getting jail time ? ?
If thieves see no downside to stealing they are emboldened.

They dont prosecute them even if you do have evidence.

My friend replaced her mailbox and the post office stopped delivering her mail. They said she was supposed to ask for permission first.

I’ll try to find the hoodlums who stole it about 8 years ago and kindly ask them to bring it back.

Maybe USPS should concentrate on improving their service. Taking 10 to 15 days for 1st class mail to reach a destination is not good. Just got a piece of mail clearly going to someone in Discovery Bay delivered to me in Clayton.

When the lazy a**hole that delivers to my house learns how to close the lid on my “secure” mailbox I’ll start considering what I can do to help the USPS.

I feel lucky now to have a caring mail carrier after hearing all the whining in this post. He’s a great guy who is abused by the USPS. He took a vacation a few months ago and the managers never assigned a full in while he was off. He came back to huge piles of mail.
