Safeway is now offering COVID-19 vaccinations without an appointment at the grocery store chain’s pharmacies, the company announced Friday.

Safeway has more than 90 pharmacies across the Bay Area. Across the country, pharmacies at Safeway and other grocery stores owned by Albertsons Companies have administered more than 4 million vaccine doses.

“We are committed to offering convenient and easy to access vaccination solutions for our customers,” Safeway Pharmacy Director Narayanan Ramachandran said. “As COVID-19 vaccine supply has improved, we are enabling walk-in vaccination solutions available across all our pharmacies.”

Coronavirus vaccinations are available for free at Safeway pharmacies for people age 12 and up.

Customers can still schedule a vaccination appointment at https://www.safeway.com/pharmacy/covid-19.html.

People who get vaccinated at a Safeway pharmacy will receive a coupon for 10 percent off a grocery purchase of up to $200.

Walked by the other day at Safeway. Not one person waiting for a shot. 15 days to not overwhelm the hospitals went by long ago. That was the reason for the lockdowns. Now you need a vaccine? Eradicate it? It’s been 14 months. Remember in March. I do. Fauci said masks don’t work. And that’s a fact.

Keep dining on ashes, buddy, while the rest of us move on.

This morning there was a line of people waiting for their vaccine shots at the Safeway on Contra Costa Blvd. that’s close to downtown Pleasant Hill. I don’t know if they were walk ups or if they made appointments.

I’d be curious as to who is paying for that 10% discount. That’s much more than the average profit margin at a grocery store. I can’t imagine Safeway corporate would be willing to take a loss and so assume they found a sponsor to pay for the 10% discount.

Antonius May 15, 2021 - 5:12 PM - 5:12 PM

Ha! they don’t need a sponsor they have tons of cash. The price for a loaf of bread I like is $4.49 at Safeway, I can buy the same exact bread at Target or Walmart for $2.82. If you’re a Safeway member you can get it for $3.99 sometimes.

I would think the 10% discount would be offered by Safeway. The same way they offer a discount for gas. Who else would have a vested interest in you shopping at Safeway? Notice the dollar amount necessary — $200.00. More than the average sale. Safeway makes money on this. Some people will buy just to get the discount… and buying more is the whole idea.

WC Resident May 16, 2021 - 8:18 AM - 8:18 AM

$200 is the upper, not lower, limit. The discount could be anywhere from ten cents if you got a $1 item up to $20 if you purchased $200 or more on your next trip to Safeway.

Since I posted the question yesterday I learned that the 10% thing is a standard offer from the Safeway pharmacy. Apparently if you sign up to make Safeway your default or standard pharmacy then they give you a 10% off coupon. You can also get a coupon if you get your flu shot there. Thus, it seems the pharmacy side of the business is the sponsor that pays for the coupons and they get their money back via continued pharmacy business.

With the COVID-19 vaccines I suspect it’s a nice profit center for pharmacies, including Safeway. The federal government is paying for both the vaccine plus a fee to whoever administers the vaccine. Initially, pharmacies needed to get ultra cold freezers for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine but in February that changed and you can use conventional pharmacy freezers for up to two weeks. Thus, there’s little to no additional expense for a pharmacy to offer the COVID-19 vaccine.

I obey store requirements to mask, despite being vaccinated, yet am amazed at the idiots driving alone or walking down the road wearing them.

They are either slaves to authority or virtue signally.

Seen kids in a park playground wearing them yesterday and thought how sad.

The virus exposed what a pathetic collection of saps we’ve become – reliant on others to dictate the terms of our lives.

The virus was real but the collapse of freedoms way over-kill and here to stay.

Rose May 16, 2021 - 9:32 AM - 9:32 AM

Why are you calling people idiots that wear masks in their car? Why does it trigger you so much that you have to troll about it in the comments?

I have a loved one going through chemo that leaves their mask on vs touching it over and over again which can result in contaminating it. So we are incredibly sorry for any inconvenience that this has caused you in your own life where you had to take the time to post about it. I will let them know that “Kauai Mike” thinks that they are an idiot and that to not further upset you they should just remove their mask each car ride.

Aloha

Sam May 16, 2021 - 10:35 AM - 10:35 AM

I don’t wear a mask because I’m not a brainwashed moron. Wearing the mask in the car defies all logic. It’s also dangerous and probably against the vehicle code. You also can’t wear earbuds or headphones while driving. Or have anything hanging from your mirror. All logic has been cast aside for the COVID HOAX. You have to if you are going to believe any part of it.

stoptheinsanity May 16, 2021 - 11:43 AM - 11:43 AM

@Rose…..your example is unique. Most drivers with masks on are idiots who have bought into the whole virtue signaling bs. I have neighbors who fall into this catagory. When they die their open casket will show them still wearing a mask.

Kauai Mike May 16, 2021 - 12:33 PM - 12:33 PM

@ Rose:

1) I am inconvenienced by the ‘masked-alone-stupidity’ as the loss of freedom these people propagate does affect me. Their submission deepens Socialists’ grip over all of us;

2) I doubt I’ve spotted your relative or others wearing them for medical reasons as you propose. If so, their percentage has to be very small. Most are virtue signaling or ignorant as I stated.

3) Good luck to your relative and those few who truly need them when out alone. Please tell them that since you are so interested in conveying my sentiments.

Aloha

Cyn May 16, 2021 - 1:51 PM - 1:51 PM

@Rose
I find it doubtful that every single person I’ve seen who was driving alone while wearing a mask was going through chemo. Most of them, if not all, were just riding alone, wearing a mask, because some idiot told them to. The same with all the folks walking around outdoors, all alone and masked. Ridiculous!!!

Rose May 16, 2021 - 7:26 PM - 7:26 PM

@Cyn

I never said that every person wearing a mask in their car was going through chemo but I just am struggling to understand why someone wearing a mask in a car seems to be such a triggering topic for so many. Why do people care if someone they do not even know chooses to wear a mask? How does that really personally affect anyone?

It’s ironic because people wearing masks are labeled as “sheeple” and “idiots”…the list goes on… because they choose to follow a guideline yet people calling everyone names wants them to do the exact opposite which is still following the orders of someone else. how is that any different? It is ok only when you agree with it? But whatever. I say do what is best for you. You don’t really know what someone else is going through to pass judgment.

Sam May 16, 2021 - 6:32 AM - 6:32 AM

You can shop at Trader Joe’s without the mask. It appears that Trader Joe’s is about personal freedom. Any business not instantly dropping the mask are UNAMERICAN control freaks and should be boycotted.

Captain Bebops May 16, 2021 - 9:10 AM - 9:10 AM

That’s funny because Target TV ads were more about them being “safe” than what products they had on sale for the week.

Sam May 16, 2021 - 10:39 AM - 10:39 AM

That’s because they are super woke and in the process of going broke. But target is locked in, no turning back after their bathroom position. They don’t have anything I need more than my dignity.

Natalie May 16, 2021 - 3:17 PM - 3:17 PM

Target isn’t going broke. They beat their 2020 sales projections, and their Q1 revenue for 2021 is expected to be higher than last year, when their next financial report come outs later this week. Forbes and Motley Fool both have recently said Target stock is a good purchase.

Sam May 17, 2021 - 5:33 AM - 5:33 AM

Who is forbes or motley fool? Ah yes establishment publications designed to lead retail investors into bad investments. Did jim cramer also say target is a BUY!BUY!BUY!!!? Booyah!!!! 😂😂😂😂

Chuq May 17, 2021 - 12:04 PM - 12:04 PM

They are writing about publicly reported earnings. What is your source for Target suffering financially? It’s not just your intuition suggesting that any “woke” company must be losing money is it?

Badger May 16, 2021 - 1:22 PM - 1:22 PM

@94521. Gotta say. I have no idea what that means. Is what I wrote not true?
