when i sat down at the diner, i asked the waitress “can i see the menu please?” She answered “the men i please is none or your business!”

Too funny! I’d go there, but I won’t…

Who’s on first?

Dawg May 14, 2021 at 10:36 PM

Chin Lung Hu played for the LA Dodgers. In 2007 Hu hit a single and for the first time in Major League Baseball history, Hu’s on first.
In 1920, Allie Watt played second base for the Washington Senators. Yes, that’s right, Watt’s on second.

nytemuvr May 14, 2021 at 11:10 PM

@Bad Nombre…..Yes

Ricardoh May 16, 2021 at 12:03 PM

What’s on first Who’s on second.

Have a great weekend!

Now that I am dining in again, I have noticed some things that I had been missing out on.
First screaming out of control kids, their parents’ (dad and mom) meals were not bothered one bit.
Then today, a person who must have been very deaf as everyone inside and maybe outside too could hear every word they said or rather yelled.
Nice dining experience. That’s what I like paying for.

Heads Up!

To see the International Space Station …

(SpotTheStation) Time: Fri May 14 9:31 PM, Visible: 7 min, Max Height: 60 degrees, Appears: SW, Disappears: ENE

KAD May 14, 2021 at 9:12 PM

Did everyone else forget it is Frida?. I am the only one to LAST.

Silva May 15, 2021 at 4:27 PM

I couldn’t. I was driving.

Tony May 14, 2021 at 11:36 PM

First Russia, then USA, and now China has landed on Mars? Who will lay claim to the “New World”?

ERas May 15, 2021 at 2:30 AM

I guess we’re counting Russia… even though it failed a few minutes after landing.

Dr. Jellyfinger May 15, 2021 at 8:24 AM

I’ve already told Russia & China to get their crap off my planet.

El D May 15, 2021 at 9:16 AM

The United Arab Emirates has a satellite orbiting Mars. China is assembling a space station out of modules that will be put into orbit through multiple launches. The core module was put into orbit last month. Chinese state media says their space station will be fully operational by the end of 2022. The Chinese are expected to send the first astronauts to the module next month to begin testing its systems.

Sick of it May 15, 2021 at 8:03 AM

What’s with all the fruit stands popping up all over the city on street corners. It seems to be getting out of hand with a lot of them setting up what look,s like regular stores almost

El D May 15, 2021 at 9:34 AM

At least they’re trying to earn a living instead of relying on handouts from the government.

Tsa May 15, 2021 at 1:01 PM

I think you meant to say “in addition to relying on handouts from the government”. And you also know they pay no taxes on the cash from their sales.

Anonymous May 15, 2021 at 3:11 PM

Don’t pay taxes, don’t pay city licencing fees, don’t meet health dept. standards, etc.

It’s one thing if it’s a one-off deal like kids selling lemonade. It’s another if it becomes a full-time business for them.

The Martinez Farmers’ Market runs every Sunday year-round. They can put up a booth there to sell their stuff. They should not be blocking our streets and sidewalks.

chuckie the troll May 15, 2021 at 8:16 AM

Here’s your May “Newsom is no longer my governor report”.
Went into Kroger maskless for the first time.
Purple Marten eggs have hatched.
Turtles are out sunning themselves again.
Saw 4 Osprey flying directly over our home this week.
Mowed and weedeated the +/- 1/4 acre of Army Corps property directly behind our home.
Found out what poison ivy looks like (1% cortisone cream used liberally).
Had our son over for dinner last night (BBQ Pork Loin) and enjoyed some quality time on the back deck.
Irises and Peonies blooming all over the place.
No drought here.
Enjoy your weekend wherever you are.

Silva May 17, 2021 at 1:04 PM

Noticed in this morning’s paper that the State has a budget surplus of $76 billion–the State is proposing to allocate $12 billion for Homeless Relief and $2 billion for schools–interesting–

Jeff (the other one) May 15, 2021 at 1:02 PM

So the state collected an excess of money from its productive citizens and companies, and instead of returning some of that back to the earners, they want to give it to the takers. Of course, federal tax receipts were doled out to various states in varying amounts, and it seems California was “gifted” over $40 billion. Is that added into that $76 B figure? So, of course, we have a “surplus,” yet the state debt is anywhere from $120 billion to $1.5 trillion (hard to nail the actual figure down, surprised?). Seems that at the federal level, and the state level, tax money and budget money are just funny money to throw around.

Dr. Jellyfinger May 18, 2021 at 8:06 AM

Surpluses should be returned to the taxpayers!
How does overcharging us turn into play money for the state?

Original G May 15, 2021 at 8:42 AM

CA based company we’ve been buying from for years. They have a detailed galleries of plans, videos and stock items not found in big box stores.

Dorothy May 15, 2021 at 11:37 AM

Still working on a couple of books. But in the meantime spring cleaning of the yards, front and back, is done. All I need to do for a while is weed patrol and some hand watering.

But spring cleaning inside has reached my sewing room. It used to be the master bedroom so it’s the 2nd largest room in the house. Needless to say it is stuffed to the gills and needs reorganizing at the very least. Already packed 4 boxes of fabric to for the next time my local ASG chapter can have a stash sale.

Jeff (the other one) May 15, 2021 at 3:36 PM

Amazing how much we accumulate…we are trying to rid ourselves of so much unnecessary junk we have saved over a couple decades. Long process

The Masked (no longer gloved) Poster May 15, 2021 at 12:56 PM

Anyone else noticed that ARCO gas stations are now advertising credit card prices, along with the cash prices? Arco has always advertised only cash prices in the past, so this is something new for them.

Drivesatruck May 16, 2021 at 8:05 AM

That’s because they did away with the 35 cent transaction fee, now they get you for more per gallon. Bigger profit for them

Antler May 19, 2021 at 3:22 AM

Is it no longer illegal in this state to charge extra for a credit card purchase?

Cowellian May 19, 2021 at 9:09 AM

If I remember correctly, they can’t charge extra for using a credit card, but they can give a discount for paying cash. Go figure!

Anonymous May 15, 2021 at 3:05 PM

Does anyone remember the name of that hair salon on the southwest end of Park and Shop located approx. where Quickly is located today? It was there in the 80s and 90s.

WC Resident May 18, 2021 at 9:13 PM

There was a beauty school salon there. It started on the Willow pass side of the building and later moved to the back side of the mall building that faces Market. Google says that one was Marinello Schools of Beauty. They closed after the feds stopped offering loans to students to attend a Marinello school.

nytemuvr May 19, 2021 at 1:12 AM

@Anonymous….Paris Beauty College, my granny used to get her blue tint there “back in the day”.

David Zachry May 17, 2021 at 6:58 AM

I am getting tired of the cars doing donuts in the intersections in the Cambridge area around the apartments on Nicholas Dr, Robin Lane, Tilson Dr. We need more police patrols in unmarked cars. The graffiti has also increased. The apartment on the corner of Robin Lane and Virginia Lane was totally tagged last week.

Problems when tomato fruit clusters become to big and heavy, tearing off the stem. There are what are called truss hooks used when vines are clipped to overhead string support systems. Came up with idea this morning, made a few and appears they might just work.

Old metal coat hangers, 1/4″ drip tubing and cutting pliers.
Cut coat hanger to length you need, cut 2″ chunk of new tubing, slide onto one end of hanger metal extending past end so it doesn’t poke you later when picking fruit and bend into a U. Other end bend into smaller U and attach to support, concrete wire mesh cage or in my case overhead strings using a vine clip. Drip tubing gives wider surface area for the cluster to be supported on, hopefully preventing damage that could happen from just the bare hanger metal.

Reason for new tubing is last years tubing could possibly have diseases that might transfer to this years plants. If you try this let us know how it works out for you.

I get chills every time I see poor Minerva (ID#A0963687).

nytemuvr May 18, 2021 at 1:05 AM

@Silva….I hear ya there, poor kitty. She looks like a resurrected cat from the movie “Pet Sematary”.

Dr. Jellyfinger May 18, 2021 at 8:13 AM

She is a 13 year old special needs kitty (looks blind to me).

Evidently snow pack this year is six percent greater than last year ?
Came to rely on this YouTube channel during Orville Dam spillway fiasco.
Juan does a single engine fly over of snow pack and lakes and gives info. If nothing else is an unusual and relaxing view of the high country most of us have never seen. His channel is worth bookmarking.

Oroville Dam 40 percent of capacity
Inflow 1,603 cubic feet per second
Outflow 4,466 cubic feet per second

Shasta Dam 47 percent of capacity
Inflow 2,709 cubic feet per second
Outflow 8,451 cubic feet per second
might want to bookmark this too

Atticus Thraxx May 18, 2021 at 5:17 PM

What is “Free Will”? From whenst does it manifest? If you subscribe to the deterministic model of our universe where every effect has a cause or causes, logic dictates that free will is an illusion. Any given choice you make is in fact a product of cause and effect. Your “free will” only comes into play AFTER your genetic makeup is determined and your environment experienced. Were you free to choose either of those? Then how can you claim true free will? (I can’t and as far as I know no one can quantify a “soul” so let’s ignore that for sake of this discussion.) And introducing randomness to your actions doesn’t help. Randomness doesn’t equal free will. It has a cause still outside your control.
Now if you believe like I do that the macro world, like the quantum world is in fact probabilistic, not deterministic that logic trap disappears. Unfortunately it opens several other traps I fear I don’t have the intellect or enough time left to try and unravel and that bums me out. Plus there is absolutely no evidence for my quasi-theory. That would play into it too.
But I’m gonna keep looking, I’ll let you know if I find anything. 😉
Be well everyone and happy spring to the Mayor and all the sub-mayors!

nytemuvr May 18, 2021 at 6:16 PM

@Atticus Thraxx.…..Oh wow man, that’s heavy, you’re blowing my mind here! Sounds like you’ve been listening to the Rev. Gene Scott, may he RIP.

Dr. Jellyfinger May 18, 2021 at 8:08 PM

Getting a bit too far out for me….. like Dennis Hopper in Apocalypse Now … or maybe I’m just not woke enough to get it.

WC Resident May 18, 2021 at 9:20 PM

Watch Free Willy.

There is a fair amount of randomness in the universe. Brownian motion is an example of this. You exercise free will when dealing with this randomness. Today I cleaned a living room window.

Kentucky Derby May 19, 2021 at 9:48 AM

This is way out in left field, but thanks for sharing. Not smart enough to understand, even on a good day. Happy spring to you too!

Atticus Thraxx May 19, 2021 at 5:49 PM

It’s just a topic I find interesting, it’s not deep really. Can have the same conversation in any dorm after a few bong hits. 🤷🏻‍♀️.
Good to see your name nytemuvr. A Claycord OG. Low and slow. Jelly, being awake is liberating not confining. I can’t imagine living life with one eye closed but I love you for trying. WC, You reached for but didn’t quite touch my point. Pedesis is most definitely not free will. KD, I simply miss you. 🤓
Talk to you guys in a month or so.

Justifiable languor May 20, 2021 at 7:48 AM

How about, free will comes into play as soon as a person becomes aware. Kind of like Being, becomes after the cosmic thunder clap. Whether or not a time line can be recorded. Sin has also been treated as such. Once aware, then start complying.

In any case, choose not get lost in the minutia. Granted it is fun to think and puzzle.

HappyPappy May 21, 2021 at 8:02 AM

Put down the pipe… don’t do you like that.
Mental jibberjabber…..a never-ending search for an answer to infinite possibilities. Time wasted when y’all could be gettin’ $h!t done.
Surely there must be a less frustrating means to bring forth the essence of life. 😉
