CHP Looking For Witnesses Of Hit & Run Vehicle -vs- Pedestrian Collision On Myrtle Drive

The following information is from the CHP:

Last Friday (05/07/21) at about 5:15 p.m., a male juvenile was crossing Myrtle Drive towards Kirkwood Court, in the city of Concord.

As he got to the corner, an older green Honda Odyssey Van was approaching his location at a high rate of speed and the right front of the Honda hit the male.

Prior to the collision, the male juvenile observed the driver of the Honda to have his head down (possibly distracted from the road). After the collision the Honda continued towards Bailey Road, then was reported headed eastbound on Bailey Road.

The Honda had no plates, had faded paint, and numerous scratches. The driver was described as a Hispanic Male adult, approximately 20-25 years old, thin build, black hair, white visor, thin black mustache, and wearing a black T-shirt with white lettering.

If anyone witnessed this collision or has any information regarding this Honda vehicle or the described person driving it, contact Contra Costa CHP in Martinez at (925) 646-4980 and leave your information for Investigating Officer Heminez to contact you. Thank you.

The witness is quite the observer, considering how fast something like that happens.

That was my thought. I hope they catch the miscreant and prosecute him.

I thought the same!
I’m sure being young doesn’t hurt your keen observation abilities.

I’m not buying this. The victim had enough time to see, process, and remember all this but didn’t have time to get out of the way? His skills are remarkable.

Last I checked, pedestrians are supposed to make eye contact with motorists to make sure they see them.
What’s really shocking is that the motorist Didn’t have a TINTED WINDSHIELD……Which seems to be the standard in Concord. Make an Inquiry with Concord PD regarding Tinted Windshields….and get yelled at!!!

…. probably no license or insurance …. had my vehicle hit in front of my house – parked – by a guy from Guatemala last July with no license or insurance being taught to drive by another guy with no license… police & insurance company tried to locate him afterwards … well I’m sure you know the story..

Of course we don’t know if the person was illegal, but it cannot be ruled out. However, most likely he was here before Biden became president. So depending how long he has been here the blame should fall on whomever was president when he arrived here, and perhaps on Trump for not deporting him. I’m not about to blame Trump for not being able to deport everyone he wanted to, but if he couldn’t get it done in 4 years, how do you expect Biden to be able to do it in 4 months.

Although I’m not as strict about illegals as some are here, I’m all for deporting illegals, that break the law.

That was only 5 days ago…. Maybe we can catch up to him before he gets to Pittsburg! Thanks!

When was the “Watch out for the other guy” (drive defensibly) PSA campaign, was it back in the 1970s? I always thought that was good. To put it another way the message as not to trust anyone out there, whether you’re driving, riding. running. or walking, don’t expect anyone using the roads will be looking out for your safety. Watch out!! What ever became of PSAs?

I hope the kid will be okay.

@hanne jeppesen – Didn’t they break the law by entering the country illegally?

anon May 11, 2021 - 7:41 PM - 7:41 PM

Illegal aliens are above the law. They are super citizens who get nearly all the benefits of citizenship while also having the uncanny ability to be safe from all prosecution.

Ones in New York even get $15k government for covid unemployment.

Sancho Panza May 11, 2021 - 7:46 PM - 7:46 PM

@H J~Aren’t all illegals breaking the law by virtue of being here illegally?

Sam Malone May 12, 2021 - 7:37 AM - 7:37 AM

Driver must have been in a hurry to go dump more trash on Bailey Road. Bet his has no license, is an illegal and has no insurance but is sucking off of the nipple of our ever present and unending support system.

Sign from Above May 12, 2021 - 11:37 AM - 11:37 AM

We really need to outlaw cars. Far too many people are killed by them! Far more than guns! At the very least, we need to increase background investigations on those wanting to buy one. Remember……cars kill people not the inattentive or inebriated drivers!

Yes. This is sarcasm!

OverWhelmed May 14, 2021 - 1:04 PM - 1:04 PM

Seem fishy that he was able to see the writing on the drivers t-shirt but he couldn’t get out of the way of the van.
