Transients have taken over the Gazebo in Civic Park at night, right across from City Hall
Last week I walked through around 7:30 pm they were drinking and doing drugs..
having a grand old time, while families with young children watched an outdoor movie near the library.
Assumed the transients were invited by Walnut Creek City Council, but knew trouble was probably in the future.

The ‘progressives’ in Walnut Creek, in recent years, have put aside more and more funding to supposedly help the homeless by having a shelter and services there. Most people thought it would attract more homeless, and each year they increased funding they did attract more homeless. They were thinking they were doing good but they were only duplicating services available in Concord, and with the services they surely attracted more homeless. Most from Concord. An idiot could have told you that would be the outcome, but trendy woke Walnut Creek could not see it. Now the residents are having to live with this issue, along with the cities tolerance of crime.
They need to bring back City leadership from 40 years ago, they would not have put up with this all.

We really need to blame the liberal leadership in that area for allowing and fostering the homeless to continue to avoid taking personal responsibility for their life choices and living situation. I know. My son is a homeless drug addict who moved from Concord to San Francisco. I asked him why San Fran? He said the homeless benefits are better than the East Bay. Liberal policies have made it so he has become some what comfortable in that living situation. He has a place to stay with me but he chooses to remain homeless. Why? The Government, giving my son/homeless just barely enough to keep shut is no incetive to change. It’s typical Liberal Oppression!

You people are out of your mind. You don’t think a transient person can’t walk a few miles to cross the border into Walnut Creek? A transient persons ability to walk is the problem of another city because they cross the border into Walnut Creek? Do you suggest you put them in a van and drop them off across the border and somebody else is city like Martinez or Antioch? Im sure that’s a fair way to “cleanse” your city (not). That would make you no better than if San Francisco packed up a bus load drove across the bridge and drop them off at the Walnut Creek BART station. This is not a liberal agenda. This is a human agenda. The human agenda in town where even full-time minimum wage workers can’t afford to live. “Not taking personal responsibility for life choices”. Really? What a tool comment.

@concord mom = clueless

ConcordMom,

Sorry, but it’s a well known fact that San Francisco did bus/BART out homeless people a few years ago when they were prepping to host The Super Bowl. Some cities love to take care of social issues, move a few to Oakland or Berkeley.

The homeless are a disease. Round them all up. Give them all a bag of dope and a knife and take them to desert island. Problem solved.

WC---Creeker May 11, 2021 - 6:29 AM - 6:29 AM

It’s a great place to hang out. In the day you go get a hot meal from Trinity House then hang out in the park. Check them out in the shade on the section of the park near the iron horse trail and in the Gazebo. Living the easy life.

American Citizen May 11, 2021 - 11:11 AM - 11:11 AM

Parasites. Living off the generosity of the bleeding heart liberals. Keep feeding them and more will show up. BART is close by. Pretty soon Civic Park will be like Peoples Park in Berkeley.

Aunt Barbara May 11, 2021 - 12:24 PM - 12:24 PM

They are now taking over Heather farms….They come out more at night like roaches!

Jeff May 11, 2021 - 7:19 AM - 7:19 AM

Thought I had the suspect at 6 P.M. near Whole Foods downtown, very close description, but not him.

Yes, the ultra-liberal city council has invited trouble into WC, be personally prepared.

You get what you vote for. Hint: Newsolini and his crew of entitlement liberal money sucking types.

Wait til they start to set fires to keep warm-yes even in summer.

You want everyone to be on the dole and this is what you end up with. Do something about this to change things to get back on track instead of constantly throwing good money after bad.

WC May 11, 2021 - 7:50 AM - 7:50 AM

So WCPD is right there and they ignore this. I blame the liberals running the city. But they’ll get voted back in time and time again.

All of the officers now know that Becton would rather see them in jail, why should they be proactive on calls. Better to take video and maybe catch someone later, it’s the smart move.

RANDOM TASK May 11, 2021 - 8:02 AM - 8:02 AM

errr
hey blaming police officers who are literally horse collared
to do and go where the council sends them and no where else

thats a liberal punch to the gut

please take a little time and realize what is happening
its not that hard to see even with media bias

we are being used by dem politicians as cash hogs
they create a problem
then tell us they can solve it by increased taxes and or fees or bills or voting for higher taxes or legalizing theft and making felonies into misdemeanors

then say hey look crime is down

thats like going to a restaurant and ordering a main lobster …
and they give you a crawdad from the creek and say its the new chic
enjoy …..and you did and do

blaming the police for terrorist tactics by democrat city councils is not the answer

they 2 are citizens and love america and are being smacked like we are

Saw them getting the caution tape out as I was heading to work, thanks for filling me in, Claycord.

Homeless tweakers, no doubt. Probably fled down the homeless highway, aka Iron Horse trail. If we bothered stopping and prosecuting shoplifters anymore, this guy would probably get picked up within a day or two. I’m sure he’s been in my store many times.

Say what you will about the former
Soviet Union but if you chose not to work, and were able to, you were considered a parasite of the state and were “Re-educated.”

Homelessness is a national and state problem, which local government inherits. You can’t force a mentally ill person to take their meds, which is crazy. You can’t force drug addicts to get treatment, in fact, first responders carry Narcan to revive them when they OD. And you can’t force someone “on the street” to go into a shelter.

I knew a guy living on the streets (actually the creek) who was absolutely out of his mind. Did something to earn a year (which is 8 months or less in CA). Within a month he was in his right mind and you could hold a serious conversation with him. Upon release, he went off the good meds, onto the bad ones, and was as spun as ever.

Darwin May 11, 2021 - 7:41 PM - 7:41 PM

@chucky
You have been misinformed. The percentage of urban campers who are mentally ill is so small it is almost not worth mentioning. Now the drug addict criminals who have all been to rehab dozens of times are the bulk of the campers. They have no desire to change and the liberal mind has made it a lifestyle. Walnut Creek libs started programs for the urban campers and now look. Build it and they will come.

Now for the truly mentally ill they fall through the cracks thanks to the drug addict criminal.

Schmee May 11, 2021 - 2:12 PM - 2:12 PM

This isn’t on politicians. This is on the police not doing their job with the homeless. They hate to deal with them (I don’t blame them) so they ignore their loitering, trespassing, drug use, public drinking and intoxication, littering, pollution, destruction etc. Only after something tragic or major happens do they step in. While we watch the cockroaches slowly take over our towns.

You know why? There’s no money in the homeless. You can’t fine a homeless person. They will never pay a fine. They will never show up for court. They will cost more money then anything else. I got pulled over after a homeless guy ran out in the street in front of my car at night. Don’t arrest the crazy homeless guy almost causing accidents no. Don’t even stop him or talk to him. Make me feel like I’m supposed to feel lucky I’m not getting a ticket for avoiding hitting a nutcase I couldn’t see until the last minute.

Elias Gonzales May 11, 2021 - 5:40 PM - 5:40 PM

Perhaps you should take the initiative and call Detective Gerstner at 925-256-3578 or the hospital instead of making 2 comments on a blog and getting nowhere fast?

Just a thought
