The last two numbers in some of the addresses have been deleted to protect the privacy of the victim(s).

According to the Concord Police, the report shown above only includes approved reports. Some burglary reports might not be written or completely approved, which is why they are not included in this post.

Question May 9, 2021 - 9:56 AM - 9:56 AM

Why are vehicle burglaries not listed any more?

Chicken Little May 9, 2021 - 10:55 AM - 10:55 AM

Not enough room on the page?

Original G May 9, 2021 - 12:59 PM - 12:59 PM

Because it’s too embarrassing to city council.

Is like yearly report format for high school drop out numbers for state of CA was changed. No real numbers any more they use percentages, probably because those numbers are also embarrassing.

At Lowe’s today, a youngster walked in, lounged a bit, grabbed a set of tools (worth $300), ambled toward the door and when the Lowe’s employee tried to stop him, he bolted through. The employee is not allowed to chase, nor is it worth it to call the police, since they can’t do anything. Even if they could, nothing would come from it. Apparently, this type of behavior is common/frequent. How much does each store lose annually due to this? Add that to the cost of burglaries (the 12 above were those reported, how many go unreported?), home invasions, vehicle burglaries… all with no apparent ramifications.

Now we must remember, CA has become a criminal friendly state.
Thanks to Prop 47, politician caused jail overcrowding and prosecutors who can’t be bothered, new phrase among lowlifes is under $950 it’s free.

Also called shopping without dollars. A subculture repeatedly propagandized to feel victimized, angry, envious and entitled to whatever they want.

I am surprised the shoplifting at CVS in Terminal Shopping Center and more surprised at shoplifting at 1451 Oakland Ave. I guess the BART station now qualifies as a Drug Store

I have no idea why vehicle burglaries aren’t included in the report, but maybe it’s to deter theft. Posting them online is a double edge sword. For every person who appreciates the reporting, there is always someone who says don’t draw crime into my neighborhood (or the shopping center) — criminals are reading. If the decision was made to deter crime, I agree with CPD decision.

@Derby
Seriously? Not reporting vehicle burglaries is a crime deterrent? Then why doesn’t the same logic apply to residential burglaries, 4 of which are reported above?

More likely, Chicken Little is right – there are too many of them and the report will look bad.

Even though 80% of car break-ins are serial crimes committed by organized gangs, and even though there is a camera on virtually every corner, prosecuting auto burglary is difficult and the best possible result is a misdemeanor conviction. I. e. a fine of up to $1000 and up to a year in jail, essentially a slap on the wrist.

So nobody is going to bother – not CPD, not the DA. Just like with shoplifting.
The citizens have to get REALLY tired of high prices of everything, including exorbitant insurance premiums and deductibles. And pass a prop with harsher punishment for serial and organized crimes. Something along the lines of the recent Prop 20, which distinguished simple theft from serial theft and organized retail theft. Unfortunately, Prop 20 failed. I guess people aren’t hurting quite enough.

There are too many of them, and a lot of officers blame the victim. So do a lot of Americans. Vehicle burglary is very preventable, and if you don’t get it, that’s on you.

The police (in every city) have gone out of their way to try to encourage people not to leave anything in their car, and they still don’t get it. It makes me wonder if they’ve given up, and they no longer consider it a crime.

A Lamorinda news site stopped posting weekly crime reports a few years ago. These decisions are at the discretion of the site owner, and they should be respected.

Taking someone’s transportation is despicable. There is a reason we used to hang horse thieves, even if the victim left their iPod on the saddle.

Kentucky Derby May 10, 2021 - 3:06 PM - 3:06 PM

Most crimes I don’t blame the victim. It marginalizes the victim, minimizes the criminal act and it keeps people from coming forward. I make an exception here. That being said, you’re entitled to your opinion and I’m entitled to mine. It’s low hanging fruit, and it drives up insurance rates. Live in a wealthy area and have your insurance driven up by zip code because of ignorant well-educated people who can “afford to replace it — no problem” and then we’ll have this conversation. You’re in Tennessee where things are dirt cheap.

Cowellian May 10, 2021 - 4:20 PM - 4:20 PM

Somebody lied to you about Tennessee being dirt cheap, especially in the Nashville area.

And I still blame the thieves.
