Coliseum Vaccination Site To Close May 23 With Demand Falling

The COVID-19 vaccination sites at the Oakland Coliseum will close later this month after a rapid reduction in demand for first-dose appointments, Alameda County announced Wednesday.

The vaccination site will close May 23, county officials said, two weeks after the state’s Office of Emergency Services concludes its deployment at the site.

According to the county, requests for first dose appointments fell from 4,000 per day to 400 per day over the last two weeks of April. Nearly 250,000 doses have been administered at the site since it opened Feb. 15.

“This marks an important milestone for our community,” Alameda County Health Care Services Agency Director Colleen Chawla said. “More than 70 percent of our residents have received at least one vaccination, allowing us to move away from mass vaccination.”

OES and the Federal Emergency Management Agency opened and jointly operated the site from mid-February as part of a federal effort to establish 100 large-scale vaccination sites across the country during President Joe Biden’s first 100 days in office.

Alameda and Contra Costa counties began jointly operating the site with the OES last month after it was announced that federal emergency personnel would be ending their work at the Coliseum.

The two counties will complete scheduled appointments for second doses through May 23 in partnership with local health care entities like the Native American Health Center and Bay Area Community Health.

After that, Chowla said the county plans to shift resources from the mass vaccination site toward communities that have been hardest hit by the pandemic and are still most at risk of developing new cases.

“We met the initial mass demand for vaccines with incredible speed and the involvement of every sector of our community,” Alameda County Supervisor Nate Miley said. “We must move deeper into communities where residents may have barriers preventing access to mass vaccination sites.”

According to county vaccination data, nearly 1.5 million doses have been administered countywide and more than 900,000 residents age 16 and up have received at least one vaccine dose.

Residents who have not yet been vaccinated are encouraged to call (510) 208-4829 or visit bit.ly/AlCoSignUp for information on scheduling an appointment or finding a clinic with walk-in vaccination services.

that’s it! Covid is over. Once everyone that wants to get vaccinated has had a chance its time to call the ballgame. The sign we have reached that point will be the vaccination sites cancelling orders for more supply and the pop-ups closing down. From this moment forward anyone selling any of us any further legislation, guidelines, etc. must be ignored and removed from their position. Every current and historical piece of virology, immunology and public health data calls this the moment of significance. Anything to the contrary is person agenda and we should not tolerate it.

Mark it 0 dude. Next frame.

hard to believe that folks are rushing to a location that hates people who aren’t black

JimmyJam May 6, 2021 at 10:14 AM

I know, I’m shocked at the number of white people who attend A’s games.

Old Concordite May 6, 2021 at 10:18 AM

I will “remember” to forget this rude and useless comment…… ✔️

The Fat Cat May 6, 2021 at 10:47 AM

what are you even referring to? Not everyone lives in a right wing fever dream hellscape

remember May 6, 2021 at 11:38 AM

don’t you all believe that there is racism? so why wouldn’t white be afraid of blacks, they are after being told that whites hate them which is a lie, then again lefties aren’t familiar with the truth

Bayslashers May 6, 2021 at 10:06 AM

***those who took the “vax” will also be falling. Into a 6 foot hole.

The Fat Cat May 6, 2021 at 1:30 PM

Yes, as evidenced by the millions of people who have been vaccinated so far and have been keeling over dead in the streets

bdml May 7, 2021 at 5:09 AM

Same can be said about the virus itself. I remember the absurdly high death toll predictions and the boat hospital…

The Fat Cat May 7, 2021 at 11:19 AM

@ bdml

The fallacy in your argument is that >550,000 people died of the virus in the US, whereas there have been an extremely small number of people who have experienced severe adverse reactions to the vaccines. The order of magnitude between the two is not similar.

Doh May 6, 2021 at 10:37 AM

The anti-vaxxers are like a huge ball and chain preventing the rest of us from reaching herd immunity.

Led May 6, 2021 at 12:30 PM

We don’t need perfect herd immunity. We need Covid to no longer be a general, community-level public health risk. And we’re very close to that right now, possibly already there.

So this is where 15 days to slow the spread ends. biden and vaccination. So Im suppose to feel bad for not taking an experimental drug and you think I care what you say. Lol sure I’m ruining life for you. 🤡

Googlar May 6, 2021 at 7:30 PM

If you don’t wear a mask and inject yourself with an experimental gene modification you’re oppressing me! Reee.

bdml May 7, 2021 at 5:10 AM

That’s right it you against them right!?! What an absurdly divisive statement…

Pyrrhus May 7, 2021 at 9:28 AM

For someone named googlar you don’t seem to know how to use google very well. Gene modification? Which stupid youtube video, facebook post, or antivax site did you get that from? Do you even understand how vaccines work? Let me guess, it had to do with a so called doctor that considers himself a “natural healing consultant.” Yes, all that gene manipulation to turn us into lizard people that will bow down and worship the demon overlords. I think you need a double layer of that Reynold’s wrap.

Googlar May 7, 2021 at 5:26 PM

Yes pyrrhus I know how vaccines work. Lets pull up a definition of vaccine so we’re on the same page:

A preparation of a weakened or killed pathogen, such as a bacterium or virus, or of a portion of the pathogen’s structure, that is administered to prevent or treat infection by the pathogen and that functions by stimulating the production of an immune response.

There’s precisely zero weakened or prepared covid19 in the genetic therapy shots.

RT,

Still pushing nonsense all day long. I am in awe that you still proudly display your ignorance to everyone every day. Good for you. We appreciate you showing us what its like to see inside the mind of someone with a diminished intellectual capacity.

Anonymous May 6, 2021 at 1:39 PM

Now that the easy part is completed, they will require a vaccination to buy or sell.

Sounds familiar…

Pyrrhus May 7, 2021 at 9:23 AM

Well, the covid19 vaccine patent will likely be waived so it should make it much cheaper. But you also make a great case for universal healthcare.

Will Gavin make a showing on the closing day? Be a great photo op and he can spew out some congratulatory statements.
