Watch the brief video from the History Channel to learn about why we celebrate on the fifth of May.
Happy Cinco De Mayo!

The Battle of Santa Poco, in which three brave Americans defeated El Guapo and his gang.
I remember celebrating that day at the Cadillac Bar and Grill in San Francisco. It was(still there l believe)a great Mexican bar on 9th street, use to go there a lot mid eighties to early nineties. Always lots of fun had friends that would hang out there Friday nights. They served slammers, a little too strong for me, l prefer a margarita.
I would guess to most Americans, Cinco de Mayo is more about margaritas and Negra Modelos than anything that happened in Mexico.
My lovely bride just brought home a twelve-pack of Negra Modelo, so I’m getting into the spirit as I type this.
Shoot, she forgot the Reposado… Darn. 🙁
We celebrate because any excuse for a party is a good one.
So it is celebrating getting out of a legal debt. Huh !
Si?
Most non-Spanish speakers cannot easily say “Dieciseis de Septiembre,” at least not without choking on their own tongue. However, they can say “Cinco de Mayo” in their sleep. Also, you can say “Cinco de Mayo” 20 times in the time it takes to say “Dieciseis de Septiembre” once — very important for 30-second TV commercials. Smart advertising people realized this and decided to make May 5th a fiesta day.
The cheap swill known as Budweiser beer.
bleeding hearts?
cultural appropriation?
discomfort caused by those wish to speak Spanish?
And the reward for all this is a hangover and gas.
if you think its anything other than the invention of the taco, you’re un-American.
We did nothing in honor of this Cuervo Holiday.
The anniversary of my father’s death.
Aw. I’m sorry, Lovelace.
It was “Cinco de Drinko” in my day.
