The California Highway Patrol is investigating the third freeway shooting on hwy.4 in less than five days.

This morning at 1:12, Contra Costa CHP was advised of a possible freeway shooting incident that occurred in the area of westbound hwy.4 on the Bailey Road (north) off-ramp. Upon arrival of emergency personnel, a solo adult male shooting victim was located in the driver seat of a light colored Nissan Altima.

Emergency personnel provided medical aid and the victim was transported to John Muir hospital.

The victim is expected to survive and is now in stable condition.

Two other freeway shootings occurred in the past five days. One on April 29 on hwy.4 near Railroad Ave. in Pittsburg, and one on April 26 on hwy.4 in Concord, according to the CHP.

At this point in the investigation authorities do not believe these shooting incidents are connected, nor do they appear to be random in how they were carried out.

They ask the public to contact the CHP if you may have information regarding suspects, vehicles, or any information pertinent to these shootings – 925-646-4980.

Interesting how they aren’t random or considered to be. You can follow the CA law or follow the 2A which is a right you decide.

How many shootings on a stretch of road over a short period of time does it take to start looking at it as a serial shooter case? Asking out of ignorance.

Oh, please May 2, 2021 - 7:54 AM - 7:54 AM

Well, it’s all those folks over the hill. Doesn’t necessarily mean serial shooter when there are so many gangs and those areas are so rough.

California is giving 76,000 inmates early release Great God O Mighty!

whome May 1, 2021 - 8:48 PM - 8:48 PM

I saw that!

That article was ironically right above this article.

But there’s no correlation, of course, LOL. Right…

Antlers006 May 2, 2021 - 6:02 AM - 6:02 AM

Time to shoot back.

e.bunners May 1, 2021 - 8:07 PM - 8:07 PM

The shooters don’t care if they’re caught; if they behave right and ‘play well with others’ in jail, they’ll be free to go.

Crazytech58 May 2, 2021 - 9:17 AM - 9:17 AM

So they are not random? That implies that everyone who has been shot at had it coming ? Then those being shot at are seedy people, ties to gangs, drugs, thieves, should be easy to figure out who wants them dead…… ahhh…. NO. They are stating this to try and make the rest feel like we are safe to drive highway 4, that shooters have intended targets, nice try CHP, I’m not buying it.

Clytn75 May 2, 2021 - 11:11 AM - 11:11 AM

I wanna know what race the shot at individuals are.
Let us know that and we can tell you exactly what is going on.

Steve May 2, 2021 - 11:45 AM - 11:45 AM

We could add armor to the cars along with electricity.

Addlepate May 2, 2021 - 4:54 PM - 4:54 PM

“At this point in the investigation authorities do not believe these shooting incidents are connected…”

They may not be connected as in the latest shooting was in retaliation for an earlier shooting, but culturally they’re related.

Don’t see many of these on 680 near Danville, or along 17 Mile Drive.

Ancient Mariner May 2, 2021 - 6:11 PM - 6:11 PM

They just got the guy who was dropping stones on cars and I breathed a big sigh of relief – now we’ve got shootings instead!
I hope they catch the person / people.

Summer gangster shooting season has begun…

sam Malone May 3, 2021 - 8:50 AM - 8:50 AM

Gangs are alive and well in Contra Costa County sadly. Better they shoot at each other than us.

whome May 3, 2021 - 12:10 PM - 12:10 PM

With all of the newly installed Gizmo’s on that section of highway, there should be an arrest soon, right?

ALPR, HD video, etc.

S May 3, 2021 - 12:12 PM - 12:12 PM

I hate these press releases. A short cursory “investigation” (talking to involved parties) will show anyone they are gang related. Why Law Enforcement continues to lie and say they can’t connect these deaths to anything is ridiculous. It’s a big part of why there is a lack of faith in police as an institution.

Snickerdad May 3, 2021 - 2:20 PM - 2:20 PM

This is what happens when you let felon out of jail early. We are making the jails safer for the inmates and the streets less safe for everybody else.
If they need to lower to population in California jails ship the over flow to Texas, or maybe start exacuting the 700 people on death row.
