Contra Costa County today surpassed 1 million COVID-19 vaccine doses administered, meeting the county’s goal more than a month ahead of the May 31 deadline.
County officials announced in January the goal of administering 1 million vaccine doses by the Fourth of July. At that time, more than 65,000 vaccine doses had been administered countywide.
After receiving an abundance of vaccine doses, county officials moved up the 1 million vaccination deadline to Memorial Day.
Since January, the county has been inundated with vials of the two-dose Pfizer and Moderna vaccines and the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccines before the latter’s use was temporarily paused nationwide to investigate at least six cases of women under age 50 developing severe blood clots potentially connected to its use.
On Friday, a U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advisory panel recommended the J&J vaccine be put back into circulation, determining that its benefits outweigh the risks.
At the time of the pause, more than 6 million J&J vaccines had been administered nationwide.
Contra Costa County has received so many vaccine doses in recent weeks that it opened vaccine eligibility to all residents age 16 and older on March 30, more than two weeks before the state’s targeted date of April 15.
Last week, county officials announced the launch of walk-in vaccination clinics in several parts of the county that have been hardest hit by the pandemic, including Antioch, Concord, Pittsburg and Richmond.
Approximately two-thirds of the county’s population age 16 and older has now received at least one vaccine dose.
According to county data, 44.3 percent of eligible residents are already fully vaccinated, equating to 409,916 residents.

Great, those who got vaccinated early on will be ready for boosters starting in August. CCHP seems to have the most organized and efficient distribution setup for the vaccines of anyplace in CA that I’ve heard about. Kudos to CCC…

Sorry but they never once said every 6 months. You need to read up a little before spreading false info. They clearly stated that after 6 months it’s still 90% effective.

Contra Costa County has done an A+ job of delivering vaccines. They do mobile units to poor and under served communities. They facilitated the water world mass vac site. Great job Contra Costa County!!
Thanks Trump. Without him pushing for the red tape to be cut and the vaccine made available in less than a year, we wouldn’t be able to vaccinate anyone for a couple of more years at least!

Try reading the news release one more time. So you don’t have to search for it, here it is again:

Notice that the number refers to doses and not to people. Most of the vaccines given in Contra Costa have been the Pfizer and Moderna versions, both of which require two doses given either three or four weeks apart. I know of a few people who got the Johnson & Johnson single-dose version, but that’s been given to a small percentage of the population.
As of Friday, 45.5 percent of our county’s residents had been fully vaccinated. That still leaves us a long way from achieving herd immunity.
We are crushing it. Not sure who we need to thank more Newsom or Biden.
I would say they’re both equally deserving of our thanks.

It can be difficult to fight the system, but the rewards for ones’ effort can be lucrative. I bought shares in all three of the current makers of the U.S. vaccines since many people will be enslaved to Johnson&Johnson, Moderna, and Pfizer for a very long time just like the Democratic Party.
