Here is another spy tool for Claycord’s online operatives to keep an eye on ship traffic:

Original G April 16, 2021 at 10:28 PM

A little more localized.

Interesting that shallow decision makers didn’t vaccinate Port workers early on, given amount of commerce going thru CA Ports. Has been 10 or more ships drifting off SF due to no anchorage spots available in the Bay. Same story down off Long Beach.

Is also useful to keep track of ships that occasionally call at Port Chicago. Then a few weeks or months later, seeing which ports they put into. One of them is off coast of Oman tonight.

mohairs April 16, 2021 at 10:42 PM

That site is SO cool! Thanks for sharing. A lot of details and photos can be found out about some of the ships by clicking on it – photos, how fast it’s going, where it’s headed, etc. Love it!

Dr. Jellyfinger April 17, 2021 at 7:13 AM

I think I’ll have a look and see what the Chinese are up to now……

Jeff (the other one?) April 17, 2021 at 7:57 PM

@Dr. J Thank you for this, very awesome. I am awestruck by the number of apparent ships out there traversing the oceans, going up and down the rivers and sailing the Great Lakes.

Momma Bear April 16, 2021 at 8:11 PM

What’s up at Red Robin at Scumvalley? Went by there 45 mins ago and there were 8-10 police cars in parking lot near entrance. Lots of people standing around outside. Looked like something of significance.

hanne jeppesen April 16, 2021 at 11:37 PM

Check the post above this about gun going off at SunValley mall. I worked at Macy’s to 7:45, must have happened after I left. Wondering what was going on at Willow Pass Safeway, as I was driving home, numerous firetrucks, flashing lights etc. didn’t see police though, so must have been a fire.

Yay Mr. Mayor! Looks like you got that annoying “ad” thing fixed! Just now when I went to the comment section I did NOT get that ad pop-up!! Thank you SO much! Hope it stays away from now on!!

KAD April 16, 2021 at 8:56 PM

First? I was Last. Have a great weekend everyone.

Dorothy April 16, 2021 at 9:47 PM

Not first even though it seems like nobody is here.

Book report: The Naked Ape, Desmond Morris,1967. Mr Morris is a zoologist and we are the naked apes he is writing about in this one from a zoologist point of view. How we might have evolved and how our primate origins still find their ways of expressing themselves even at the time he wrote this. Only 8 chapters but once past the first one the rest is all about us as we are, or at least as he saw us in the 1960s. I’m not inclined to think an updated version would change much of this content. Especially if written by another zoologist.

Silva April 17, 2021 at 3:40 PM

Dorothy, are you enjoying reading “The Naked Ape”? I can’t quite tell. I haven’t read it, but I have thought about reading it before.😊

Original G April 16, 2021 at 9:47 PM

Cousin Itt from The Adams Family 1960s TV series has passed.

Dr. Jellyfinger April 17, 2021 at 10:24 PM

Are you sure he’s dead?
I only read that he dyed.
Story say’s he was in his eighties, but only had a short life…
Now I’m totally confused.
But that’s the way life is… hair today and gone tomorrow.
Gone up into that great chimney in the sky.

You know he smoked alot….

Dawg April 16, 2021 at 11:34 PM

I watched the Derek Chauvin trial every day and came up with my own verdict on all three charges. The jury will hear closing arguments on Monday. It will be interesting to see what their verdict will be.

addlepate April 17, 2021 at 12:15 AM

Anyone know anything about the homeless guy living at the Pavillion entrance? Anyone stop to talk to him?

addlepate April 17, 2021 at 11:46 PM

No? Nothing? Thanks, Claycord peeps…you complain about homeless encampments on the regular but are blind to its inception? I find it frustrating that no one has anything to say. In other words, if the homeless population at the Pavilion entrance becomes 50 people, 100 people, 300 people you’ll finally say something??? Why are my Claycord peeps saying nothing? Do you find it okay to have 174 homeless camp set-ups in August, when a popular act plays the Pavillion, and then say…”this should not be happening?”? Is the Claycord community not a community that stands for one another?

Silva April 20, 2021 at 9:49 AM

Sorry addlepate, I don’t go that way much at all. I know nothing about the guy besides what I’ve read on nextdoor, where I believe I’ve seen him discussed a bit.

Dr. Jellyfinger April 17, 2021 at 6:44 AM

He might also need a bath…. and spare change..No thanks!

First, last and foremost … Happy Friday! * in case we have others interested. 😊

As for wine drinking, we have been ‘priced out’ of our favorites. Well, truth be told, any at all. However, lately we have included on our now spacious wine refrigerator: Ginger beer, American beer, tonics, soda water and a few exploratory wines intended for celebratory meals. Occasional zip fixes and citrus hydrators. Not much interest in soda pop as a rule. So:

Which is your goto celebratory refresher? Daily, monthly. I’m not picky. In memory of “s”.

A. Soda pop, which flavor or brand.
B. Wine. White, red?
C. Beer. Domestic?
D. Water?
E. Whatever floats your boat?

nytemuvr April 16, 2021 at 8:57 AM
“E”….White Russians once in a blue moon, I was celebrating with those long before “The Dude”.

Kentucky Derby April 16, 2021 at 9:07 AM
D. Water. I’ve always drank a lot of water because it’s healthy. I didn’t see the benefits when I was younger, but at my age — I really think it’s one of the reasons I never get sick.

ProseHop April 16, 2021 at 2:23 PM
I’ll take an afternoon zinfandel, the morning is for coffee and shopping; well sometimes a ginger beer.

chuckie the troll April 17, 2021 at 11:10 AM

Have you given Trader Joe’s a “Look” lately? They have some pretty good wine below $10 a bottle. It is about an hour drive to the closest one where I live now. I miss it.

Silva April 17, 2021 at 3:34 PM

D. Water! It has always been my #1 go to beverage of choice. I actually find the taste of cold, clean, clear water absolutely delicious. In most of California I will drink cold tap water if that’s what is offered, and I prefer it to water bottled in plastic. I enjoy most of the other choices too, as long as I have enough water on board or a glass of water at the same time. At home everyone knows that in Summertime it isn’t unusual for me to have at least two glasses going at the same time, at different ends of the house. Sodas aren’t the same as they once were, I can’t enjoy them with the artificial flavors and high fructose corn sweetener. If anyone remembers how they used to taste, you know what I’m talking about. They used to be SO good. The bottles of Mexican Coke with their cane sugar are superior, but without the natural flavors even they don’t interest me. Exceedingly rarely I can go for a really good ginger beer. Sometimes in the morning I’ll have a dark coffee with (real) cream, or one of a few favorite teas with milk. Favorite alcoholic beverages would be red wines, a nice gin and tonic, white wines, or a nice black imported ale, depending on circumstances.

Cowellian April 17, 2021 at 6:51 PM

I pretty much swore off sodas when I worked for Coca-Cola.
I don’t drink beer much anymore, but I do like Russian River’s Pliney the Elder when I’m in California, and Stone’s Ruination everywhere else.
I prefer red wines, especially Old-Vine Zin and Cabernet Sauvignon.
During the day, I drink coffee (black and unsweetened), unsweet ice tea, and tap water with half a lemon.

Jeff (the other one?) April 17, 2021 at 8:08 PM

As Chuckie mentioned, TJs has some good stuff for less cash (I love their ruby port). BevMo has the 5 cent sale, can get a good $7 bottle. My drink of choice, well, only drink I take, is red wine, either cabs, zins or ports, and that is only occasionally. Usually, just water. Can I live it up, or what?

Justifiable languor April 18, 2021 at 11:50 AM

chuckie the troll: Yes, I have bought a few choice wines at TJ’s. One was from St Helena. We eventually visited the winery. A stone hut with a big oak door. You are out of state now? I wish you the best in your new digs. We will follow suit in a few years, probably some place so ugly no one will consider it.

Jeff: I like BevMo’s descriptions. I also like knowing where the grapes are grown. The fun with TJ is trying to discern the disguised name brand.

Co well I an, I like old vine Zins too.

Justifiable languor April 17, 2021 at 8:30 AM

Gosh nytemuvr, I had to look up all of those proper nouns. Good answers!

Kentucky Derby, I am a water drinker too. Nothing better to qwench thirst than distilled with mineral drops. Except a beer break after a hard session in the garden or hike, or with Mexican food.

ProseHop, I love a robust Zin. Especially when cooking a special dinner after a weekend in the garden. The two hobbies combined, were very satisfying. Ah, the good old days!

Silva April 17, 2021 at 5:08 PM

I guess nytemuvr got himself moderated again(?). I missed it. Darn.😆

Justifiable Languor April 18, 2021 at 7:02 AM

Silva: I don’t think so. I just had to look up White Russian, blue moon and The Dude. Turns out Blue Moon was two things. A vodka and A blue moon is an additional full moon that appears in a subdivision of a year. I was flattered he came out for a chat.

Kentucky Derby April 18, 2021 at 6:02 PM

If you haven’t had a White Russian, they’re pretty good. White Russian or Brandy Separator (similar). Black Russians are straight booze (I think).

Cowellian April 18, 2021 at 7:14 PM

Yes, a Black Russian is Vodka and Coffee Liqueur. Add cream and it becomes a White Russian.

nytemuvr April 18, 2021 at 7:34 PM

@Justifiable languor….….”The Big Lebowski”, one of Coen Brothers best movies, IMO. We all knew people like him back in the 70s, some never changed.

Dr. Jellyfinger April 18, 2021 at 8:02 PM

A Brandy Seperator… that really takes me back. I poured alot of those while tending bar back in the 80’s. Great drink.

Justifiable languor April 19, 2021 at 7:37 AM

Nytmuvr: Well! I stand edified! I will put The Big Lebowski on my list!

Kentucky Derby: I worked with two youngsters that drank them. They were a kick! Chubby young ladies with style that loved sucking down the calories. The Bobsy Twins, as I thought of them. They looked nothing alike except for their girth and a penchant for partying. The 80s!

Dr.Jellyfinger, I bet you worked at FatFannys. Haha.

Co well I an, I was a fan of Keoki Coffees … Don’t you just love auto correct! 😋 Brandy Kalua coffee and whipped cream (no sugar). That was before I met the Fabulous H, and he made me an honorable woman.

Dorothy April 17, 2021 at 9:53 AM

Just notice! No popup ad in the center of the screen just to see the comment section. Yea! Thank you Mayor or whomsoever had it removed. I don’t mind the ones on the right side of the screen.

OKFine, if someone asked you to design a machine that made paper clips how would it work ? ? ? ? Ask the kids and grand kids.

Silva April 20, 2021 at 9:55 PM

WOW. Beautiful.

Jeff (the other one?) April 17, 2021 at 8:04 PM

Bought a jackfruit today, to try something new, that I never had before. Pretty expensive for a piece of fruit. Not sure it was worth it, was like $14 at Costco. Fair amount of work to get the fruit out, and this thing was sticky, like, can’t wash it off it was so sticky. The fruit was tasty, to be sure. Both my wife and daughter said the fruit smelled bad; seemed fine to me (didn’t stink, had no smell to me), daughter liked the taste, wife did not. To be honest, would not buy again, just not worth the cost or the effort.

Ancient Mariner April 17, 2021 at 10:19 PM

You need to try a durian!

Silva April 20, 2021 at 10:46 AM

I’ve never eaten jackfruit but I’ve eaten durian! I had to try a durian after someone brought one on an AC Transit bus I was on as it was going through Oakland’s Chinatown, and the whole experience of being on that bus at that time was so memorable I mentioned it to someone at work who knew what that very permeatingly funky smell was and explained to me that it was a food item, and I had to see if I could understand why anyone would eat something that smelled like that.

Antler April 17, 2021 at 8:42 PM

Just in general (though I drink so seldom that I confess to being picky about quality):
Champagne…. Mumm’s
whites: pinot blanc
reds and blends: pinot noir, malbec, merlot
soda: Coke, and diet Pepsi
flavored water: Sparkling Ice
water-water: Smart Water

Who is in charge of planning the hors-oeuvres?

Justifiable languor April 18, 2021 at 3:47 PM

Mums cuvee “M” was one I bought a few times. Grocery store staple, once upon a time. Blue label. I haven’t tried it in a long time. Maybe a trip to Napa would refresh my memory.

Livermore has some fun Wineries. Steven Kent and La Rochelle shared a parking lot ten years or so ago. A two fer! A cheese, tapanade or a savory jam?

For me an Orange Crush or Collins mix. I’ll have to seek out the Mexican coke, for a taste test.

Ancient Mariner April 17, 2021 at 10:21 PM

Has anybody else noticed lots more CHP traffic stops lately? I’m seeing them all over the place. Way more than usual.

Shiloh April 18, 2021 at 1:47 PM

You must not commute on highway 4 🙁

Anonymous April 18, 2021 at 12:04 AM

I was thinking about that so-called “Painted Lady” home that came up for sale in San Francisco last year. This is one of those iconic SF homes you see in magazines and on post cards (in the past.) I was thinking this home is a most appropriate commentary on San Francisco itself. And to liberalism as well. The house is beautiful on the outside and rotten and ugly on the inside. See for yourself.

Antler April 18, 2021 at 1:09 PM

Time to go to the library?

A couple of nights ago, I finished the 8th (and last) book in the “Outlander”series by Gabaldon. There are eight (8) books of over 850 pages each.

There is time/space travel involved from ancient Scotland and England over to the colonization of North America, then through the intricate tribal and settlers’ life styles and politics leading up to and during the Revolutionary War.

The author has done a masterful job with both geographical and political research, and she presents frequently scathing character studies and interactions of all types. Be advised that sexual scenes are frequent and are described in unrelenting emotional and physical detail. The battle scenes also are graphic, as are the primitive medical treatments (including surgeries).

I’ve donated my “Outlander” books to Berkshire Books on Clayton Road (across the street from El Monte Shopping Center), and at least some of them might still be there. They were the soft-cover “trade publication” size.

Well Folks April 18, 2021 at 2:21 PM

Vanity is suppose to arrive this coming Thursday so hopefully we will be on the road to completing the master bath.

Beautiful day today. Started with the 1st Genoa Lane clean-up with my Kiwanis club. I had do go as I’m lead for this project. We spent about an hour picking up trash then had a “social” with adult beverages at Nevada’s “Oldest Thirst Parlor” the Genoa Bar. We all bring snacks to share with each other and just have a real good time. Plenty of outdoor seating for the 14 road cleaning participants and others. People love our clubs tie-dye work shirts and always come an ask us what organization we are with and tell us that we look like we are having fun. And it’s true we always have fun with whatever we do

ProseHop April 18, 2021 at 4:35 PM

At least it hasn’t snowed here,

Any beefsteak tomatoes this year?
I’ve been lazy with veggie planting … only chocolate peppermint, flat-leaved Italian parsley, and onion chives,
