I would think that with the amount of people that have been vaccinated in CCC (even with only the first dose) that there would be a daily significant drop in active cases – maybe I missing something

Soon to be ex-Californian April 5, 2021 - 3:57 PM - 3:57 PM

You have already seen a huge reduction since the peak in January.

You have to take into account that only half of the adults in the county received their first shot, most of them within the last two or three weeks.

Compare our curve to say Canada that seeing numbers like mid December

DLo April 5, 2021 - 4:39 PM - 4:39 PM

Most of the new cases are coming from cities with lower vaccination rates. For example, Bay Point has about half the vaccination rate as Walnut Creek.

It should hopefully get better now that the County has opened vaccinations up to 16 and older.

The vaccine does not prevent you from getting COVID-19. It’s supposed to reduced the chances of someone getting seriously ill.

Thus, I would expect the number of cases to get higher as people socialize more as they are protected by the vaccine. That will cause more cases among those that have not been vaccinated yet or chose to not get vaccinated. Some of unvaccinated will end up in the hospital and die but I don’t think in large enough numbers to be noticeable on the charts.

The most recent surge was caused by holiday gatherings. Once the holidays were over the number of cases dropped quickly as people went back to their normal social distancing and mask wearing.

This is off-topic, except it deals with COVID matters. I am researching by whose/what authority the PHBA commissioner has the right to demand that spectators watching kids play ball at PUBLIC parks and schools, must wear masks outside. These are not laws. On Saturday, the commissioner of the league came by acting like some agent telling people to put on their masks outside.

Open Up April 5, 2021 - 4:47 PM - 4:47 PM

The problem isn’t the commissioner, it’s the Pleasant Hill city council. PHBA has to come up with an action plan on how to “keep people safe” before the city will give them permits to play on city owned parks. That puts the enforcement of compliance on PHBA. If there are complaints of people not wearing masks, the city will yank the permits and no more baseball and softball for the kids. And trust me, there will be hypochondriacs that will cry to the city.

parent April 5, 2021 - 4:57 PM - 4:57 PM

Every body wants to be on a power trip lately … why should the commissioner be different from the terrorists in the Teachers Union, the Bored of Education, the County Health Department (what a laugh they are), and our loser governor …

Anonymous April 5, 2021 - 5:32 PM - 5:32 PM

Thanks for your insight. I guess I should give the city council a call. I still don’t understand how anyone, including the city council, has the power to enforce that people wear masks outside on public property. Without taxpayer money, the parks would be bereft of funding. When I called PH Rec today, I spoke to a really nice woman who told me she’d received calls about people not wearing masks outside. She also told me that they adhere to the health departments recommendation, i.e., that masks are “encouraged,” outside in groups of over 25. “Encouraged” is a far cry from some unelected commissioner demanding people wear masks. He also sent a blistering letter today. We have become a nation of tattletales, busybodies, power-trippers, not to mention of a population who can’t—or won’t—think critically.

We are in the middle of a war on middle-class lifestyles by the Marxist regime
Remember the “manifesto” that CCHealth put out last year that states how we must re-imagine our lifestyles and it’s not going to go back to normal
Part of the war is the fact that they believe because of their handling of the fake virus response that they can literally dictate how you live your life
Newsom had the rubber-stamp legislature cook up some low IQ legislation regarding health emergency powers that hasn’t been tested in a court of law yet even though his other executive orders like the phasing out of gasoline powered engines by 2030 were challenged and found illegal in court
Newsom needs to be recalled and a new gov could end mask mandate
PH council could and should look the other way
Take a stand for sanity

Kenjamin April 5, 2021 - 7:59 PM - 7:59 PM

You guys should revolt and save everyone from themselves.
Baseball was never designed for this, and the marxists are just trying to turn america’s pastime to foosball ahead of the ghettos being built for real patriots who won’t bow down to evil or masks like the communists do. Google “communist mask wearing as the first step for establishing a marxist beach head in countries where everyone was good prior to satan building lgbtq gay clubs and pot farms to kill birds with giant wind farms”.

WCreaker April 5, 2021 - 9:13 PM - 9:13 PM

The PHBA is operating under the guidelines from the State on youth sports programs. Those guidelines say to limit the number of spectator, practice social distancing and that all spectators must wear masks at all times. Hey, PHBA is just doing what they are being told to do by the educated scientists, and covering themselves if something bad happens. https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/COVID-19/outdoor-indoor-recreational-sports.aspx

WCreaker

The health department are unelected bureaucrats. The “guidelines” are not laws. The PH Rec associate told me they follow the “guidelines” which encourage mask-wearing. By whose authority can some PHBA board members demand people wear masks? What remedy do they have should a person not comply? If I sit on the grass away from people, do I have to wear a mask? If I’m not a spectator, but walking my dog through the park, can I be told to wear a mask? Can I pull down the mask to eat? There is a snack bar, so, obviously, food and drinks are being sold. Last year, the season was canceled early on. How much of registration money was returned to the players’ families?

Beware, The new “double mutant variant COVID 19” is now on the loose in the Bay Area.

Your communist government in california will never let you remove The Mask.

Two completely separate statements. You do the math.

First of all…….The Experimental “vaccine” Doesn’t Work.

2nd, they have Conveniently lowered the cycle threshold on the flawed PCR test.= less positive cases.
3rd, all of you psychosomatic hypochondriacs need to QUIT going to the ER for a runny nose and Ruining it for all of us. That’s correct, Stop attacking and blaming ME when you have paranoid fools keeping the lie going.

Funny how it’s just sooo “racist” to call it the China virus, yet what’s this now, at least 3 variants (UK, South Africa, India) where it’s no problem at all to refer to them by place origin.

In Contra Costa County, people16 or older are now eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccination.

SGV April 7, 2021 - 4:31 PM - 4:31 PM

The latest study says that vaccinated people can not transfer the virus. Therefore, whoever said the “cases will go up and unvaccinated people will die” is 100% wrong. That’s just nutty talk, period. Secondly, who on earth would allow ANY minor child to be vaccinated with an experimental therapy? Good grief, young people are still developing. These vaccines are “specific” to this particular virus and long lasting (meaning they likely remain robust forever). Kids don’t need a potentially out of control immune system that overrides their own “innate” immune response from developing. Give our kids a break! Each person must make an informed decision based on their own particular medical needs. This is not one-size-fits all.
