Depends on the definition of smart. Take a look at politicians, they are educated and reasonably intelligent, but at the same time they an be incredibly stupid. Smart can mean a number of things. Intelligent, clever, quick witted, etc.
Marilyn Vos Savant is considered one of the most intelligent with an IQ of 190, her highest IQ score was 228.

Chris Langan has an IQ that has been reported to be between 190-210
That guy’s life was filled with obstacles. Bad parenting and bad teachers. Those who recognized his intelligence (teachers) tried to stifle it to make their job easier. I have a similar story in my own life.
So much wasted potential. Imagine what he could have accomplished if he had been nurtured by good parents and exposed to good teachers. His name would be a household name.
How does someone know what their IQ is? I don’t know mine and don’t want to know.
When I was in school, the test was administered by a district psychologist.
I think Mensa has an on-line test. They admit anyone who scores in the 98th percentile on a standard IQ test.
One can have a high IQ, excel at academics, (like some teachers & politicians) and still ain’t got no smarts.
Smarts comes from life experience combined with the ability to apply common sense, knowledge, reason, and logic.
Far as I know……no one is the smartest. How would you even judge that?

Being smart does nothing for anyone unless you also have common sense and logic. Look around and you can see the lack of common sense that prevails today which leads to the turmoil in our nation and world. God is my choice!

My old neighbor. He was a deputy sheriff for 30 years. He retired at age 55 with a fat pension. He immediately sold his house and used half of the profit to buy a bigger better house in a state that has a lower cost of living, and no state income tax. He is living the dream.

The first person that came to mind was Thomas Sowell.
Even smart people have a weakest link. Remember Steve Jobs? He was widely thought to be extremely smart, but the dummy died of a curable form of pancreatic cancer.
I pancreatic cancer has a high dead rate. Patrick Swayze died from it, as did Alex Trebek. However, I think Steve Job had other flaws apparently he did not have the best of social graces.

I have no idea, and I don’t think it is possible to know unless you are God. As an aerospace engineer I have known and worked with many with high IQs, but I don’t know what they were. I know what mine is above, but not the exact number. Of all of the people I have met, one certainly near the top of the IQ list is Dr. Franklin Chang-Diaz.
IQ doesn’t always correlate with performance either, unless you are talking about such things as physics, engineering, bioscience or similar. This is especially true when you consider that Jimmy Carter has one of the highest IQs of any of our Presidents, but was the worst President of at least the last 50 years until Obummer came along and got elected. The current occupant of the White house certainly won’t be in the Presidential high IQ discussion, but is currently leading the way to unseat Obummer as the worst President.

I know exceedingly intelligent people but some cannot understand physics, mathematics, calculus, psychology, politics, etc.

I’m surprised some can even function in a social setting.
Being “smart” or having high IQ is of not much use if person lacks common sense. Work with electrical, mechanical and software “engineers” three sometimes 4 days a week. When other electricians are not enamored with their bedside manner, ya take a moment to remind them that in Life and in Nature, there is “Balance”. If they (engineers( are really smart on the one side, on the other side, interpersonal . . . . . NOT so much. Then Sheldon from that TV show gets mentioned.
Smartest people I know can break a problem down into smaller parts, analyze, try something that might fix it, may take a bit but they usually figure out the solution. They don’t judge or keep score, they encourage discussion, accept suggestions, they’re about explaining and sharing knowledge.
That being said, there’s a couple of those smart “engineers” I wouldn’t trust to automate a flush toilet.

Well, I know my IQ and it sure isn’t me.
I am, however, eligible to join Mensa.
There are different kinds of intelligence. Some have emotional intelligent, some are book smart, other are a genius with math and science, Mozart was a musical genius. I have some smart friends, not that they are the smartest in the world, but they are pretty smart. My girl friend graduated from a college in New York with honors, but never did anything with it, says she couldn’t find the right job, now retired her and her husband lives in New York City on a very modest social security income, but she is not complaining, but I think she could have done so much more, she had brains, beauty and personality.
My other friend was a total screw up in high school, ran away from home (Westport Ct) and was slumming with friend in Greenwich Village, then he got drafted to Vietnam, as a paramedic. When he returned (I met him a few months later) he decided to get serious about his studies, he got a Ph.D. in biochemistry ended up running a lab at Mass General and was an associate professor at Harvard. So it is not only intelligence that matters, you have to have drive and discipline and goals if you want to accomplish something.
The ability to see things quicker and clearer than others because the brain can handle more data resulting in better problem-solving and reasoning ability.
I read that Marilyn vos Savant (born 1946) as mentioned here before has a 228 IQ. You know the Ask Marilyn column in the Parade magazine in the East Bay Times every Sunday? That’s her and guess what, from what I read, she is a nice person, too!

So I can’t tell you who I think is the smartest.
There is smart, intelligent, wise, educated, driven and just plain lucky. Different segments of society value one over the other. I read the book on the making of the Atomic Bomb, and one of the Hungarian physicists, Szilard, pretty much had all of them. Got himself and his money out of Nazi Germany the day before Hitler closed the border. Made it to the U.S. and played a big role in getting atomic energy and weapons from theory into reality.
