- POSITIVEY RATE: 2.0 – 4.9% positive tests for entire county (currently 1.7%)
- EQUITY METRIC: Less than 5.3% positive tests for health equity quartile (currently 2.7%)
K-6 School Reopening:
- Schools have been allowed to reopen since February 9, 2021.
This is yesterday’s data. The county was late in getting the reports out today but have now updated their dashboards.
This week, the County has changed the “Cases By Location” data table so that the population in unincorporated areas is added to their adjacent cities. This has had the effect of significantly changing the Cases Per 100,000 numbers for cities such as San Pablo, which has been leading the County in that category since the beginning of the pandemic. El Sobrante and Pittsburg now lead in cases per capita.
More important is California’s progress toward giving four million vaccinations to people in the least healthy communities. Contra Costa will move into the Orange Tier as soon as the four million mark is achieved. Today’s report showed over 3.6 million doses administered so far. At the current rate of progress, we may move into the Orange Tier as soon as the end of next week.
I noticed when the county did this shift that the number of cases per city, and for “other” did not change. The implication is that they had always been reporting people as living in a particular city or town even if they lived in the unincoporated part of that city or town. The population figures though only were for the incoporated areas. Thus the reported per-100,000 population case rates had been too high and are now correct.
Here are the details of the population changes.
Concord increased by 792 or 1%
Crockett increased by 180 or 6%
Danville increased by 14,325 or 33%
Martinez increased by 6,639 or 18%
Pleasant Hill increased by 3,518 or 10%
Richmond increased by 7,247 or 7%
San Pablo increased by 13,280 or 42%
San Ramon increased by 897 or 1%
Walnut Creek increased by 20,809 or 29%
None of the other populations, such as for Clayton, were changed.
The case rate for the entire county was not changed and I believe that’s the value that matters for deciding what tier to assign to a county. The changes likely affected the so-called equity Equity Metric.
1000 parents of MDUSD schools are attempting a recall of Cherise Khaund, head of MDUSD board. They claim she took too long to open schools and when they did open (this week) it was not for in-class learning, more like inane summer camp activities to pass the time. All the surrounding school districts now have in-class teaching. MDUSD is still doing online teaching via Zoom. So some teachers are in their vacation homes “teaching” and many teachers just put on a video for the kids.
We get videos or independent learning while the teacher sits there doing nothing on camera. It is infuriating. Parents are trying to recall ALL the board members, not just her. This is all just stupid now and the board doe not give a rat’s behind.
The teachers union do not care about education and neither does the district. The teachers have no backbone to take a stand or are comfortable with the ways things are. Parents need to find alternative ways to get their children educated. Public schools suck, they have for years.
Not all public schools suck. Other school districts (Orinda, Acalanes, San Ramon) are back to school with the teachers ON-CAMPUS teaching in-person, live, in the classroom. MDUSD still teaches via internet (could be from smartphone on the beach or mountain house in Hawaii).
You see, the MDUSD teachers union called MDEA calls the shots. They are currently tying to re-negotiate their contract for more $. So they use kids as a political football. MEDA says, “Give us a juicy raise and we’ll go back to campus immediately. If you don’t give us a raise, well we don’t feel like going back to work inside the school and there’s nothing you can do about it because we are a Billion dollar union that can buy politicians as well as punish them. And if you are the head of MDUSD and have higher political aspirations (cough Cherise Khaund, cough), we can make or break your entire career and thus your earning potential. So what do you want to do? Do you want to give us the fat juicy raise or do you want to go against us? We remember our enemies and we will pay you back in spades.”
No, actually most government-run (“public”) schools do suck, especially in CA. Sure, some surrounding districts went back to in-person before MDUSD. Hooray. But these districts, with full support and complicity of leftist politicians and unions such as MDEA, CFT, CTA, et al., continue to push radical leftist (and harmful) platforms such as trans nonsense, renaming schools, and CRT which is all about indoctrination, NOT education.
why are illegal alien children getting in person education in LA when the American children there cannot?
@remember
I think you’re speaking of San Diego…and it’s even worse than what you stated. So these San Diego teachers, many of whom have been just like MDUSD teachers screeching “IT’S NOT SAFE!!” to go back in-person, are not only willing to go teach these illegal alien kids IN PERSON, they’re doing it when >10% of the ~700 kids currently there at SD Convention Center have tested POSITIVE, which is a case rate of over TEN THOUSAND per 100,000….just SLIGHTLY above the school reopening threshold of 25/100K in CA.
And to top it off, due to China Virus restrictions in capacity, all the area homeless shelters were already filled, so the overflow were being housed at the convention center. But these homeless, undoubtedly many AMERICAN CITIZENS and even veterans, were booted back onto the street to make room for Biden’s Kids.
Wasn’t a Marxist from Berkeley with “non-profit” experience only just elected to MDUSD board? She had a very expensive looking glossy mailer out at election time
My hunch is that Soros is branching out from just DA’s to school boards
She and Becton will make quite a duo
