More than 200,000 teachers and child care workers received a coronavirus dose over the last week, more than double the goal set by the state of California, Gov. Gavin Newsom said Monday.
Last week, the state began reserving 10 percent of the vaccine shipments sent to local health departments and multi-house health care entities for teachers and child care workers in an effort to hasten the reopening of schools across the state.
That 10 percent allocation will total at least 75,000 vaccine doses per week, Newsom said.
“This is welcome news for teachers, students and parents as more and more schools reopen safely across the state,” Newsom said in statement. “We will continue working with our local partners to accelerate this effort in communities across the state so that all school staff have access to a vaccine within weeks.”
Newsom touted the effort, saying that the increase in vaccinations for workers like teachers and school staff allowed all 58 of the state’s counties to vaccinate teachers throughout the week. Prior to that, 35 counties had opened vaccine eligibility to teachers and child care workers.
To date, 10.5 million vaccine doses have been administered across California, according to state officials.
all baby sitters.
if there were any real teachers receiving a pay check to sit at home, should have been taking online classes, instead of finding more was to avoid working.
Funny that teacher/sitters find more ways to not work.
9 month, work/sitting Wednesday off for a break during the week. Summers off for 3 months.
I guess thay got a good deal with covid.
I WORK IN THE TRANSPORTATION INDUSTRY. BEEN WORKING THE WHOLE TIME WHICH IS GREAT, ALSO BEEN EXPOSED TO THE PUBLIC THE WHOLE TIME. COVID WENT THROUGH MY SHOP, HIT LIKE 40% OF THE PEOPLE IN PARTS AND SERVICE. I AM 58. I WILL BE WAITING A PRETTY LONG TIME TO GET MY SHOTS. NOT OVERLY HAPPY ABOUT THAT.
I bet everyone ended up fine though, right? The severity of this for the average person has been severely overblown… Good luck with the vaccine!
Great, I’m sure the schools will all be opened up in no time!
Let’s see what excuse the babysitter’s come up with next. All the Incentive money from the state and there shots.Get your asses back to the school room.
Teachers are truly pathetic, refusing to go back to work while cutting essential workers, the elderly, and the immunocompromised in line for the vaccine. Look at Hondabill in the comments, 58 years old and working hard every day, but he cannot get a vaccine, because it was shot into the arm of a 25 year old math teacher who works 3 or 4 hours a day from home in his underwear while drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon.
Why? Why vaccinate or even pay teachers? I mean really. What a waste of money and oxygen, much less medical supplies. Rather than “do no harm”, they simply do nothing. And the hardest hit victims of their antics are children who are low income or people of color.
Do people really understand the various types of “teachers” this announcement applies to? This includes daycare workers, preschool teachers, tutors, teachers in private schools, etc. Many, many teachers are working live with children every day. Please stop the bashing. It doesn’t help anything.
What have teachers done during the last 12 months that should afford them entry into the classification of essential workers. Nothing. Real essential workers spent that time providing services and risking their own health to do so. Let’s put those real heros at the front of the line, not these idiots.
California’s education system and schools are near the worst in the United States . Our kids were not being educated when schools were open . Until people in this state wakeup and change the direction and leadership here ,nothing will get better . It will only get worse 1
… and the schools still aren’t open ….. no guts , no leadership with the current management of this state
and yet the teachers still don’t care enough about the kids to go back to school…
