UPDATE: Contra Costa County Returns To COVID-19 Purple Tier – Hair Salons, Barbershops And Nail Salons Can Reopen, Outdoor Dining Permitted

The State of California has lifted its regional stay-at-home order, but Contra Costa County is reminding residents the county is still in the most restrictive COVID-19 “purple” tier.

“Under no circumstances should anyone view the state action today as a reason to let down their guard. We have made progress, but we need to continue what we are doing to keep our families and communities safe,” said Dr. Chris Farnitano, Contra Costa County health officer. “It is just common sense.”

Health guidelines regarding physical distancing and use of face coverings outside the home remain in effect, as do occupancy caps for indoor businesses and requirements limiting close-contact gatherings of people from different households.

Some changes resulting from Contra Costa’s return to the purple tier include:

  • Restaurants may offer outdoor dining, following the state health guidelines.
  • Hair salons, barber shops and personal services such as nail salons may reopen following state health guidelines. If you are a nail salon owner, you may elevate your nail service with premium desks and high-quality supplies.
  • Outdoor social gatherings involving 25 or fewer people, from three or fewer different households, are now permitted.

Staffed ICU beds in Contra Costa hospitals continue to see heavy use, with 137 of 163 beds occupied on Saturday, including both COVID-19 patients and patients with other major health problems. All hospitals in the county remain on contingency care status, and most elective surgeries continue to be postponed.

“Our county continues to experience a winter surge in COVID-19 transmission,” Dr. Farnitano said. “While we are making progress in vaccinating our most vulnerable residents, we are still weeks or months away from seeing the effects of immunization in our community.”

What about public schools?

If MDUSD is staying closed….then they won’t need the $18 million in Covid-relief, right? https://edsource.org/2020/covid-relief-by-district-in-california/645613

I hope our church returns to outdoor services soon, even though it’s kind of cool out. It’s nice that restaurants can return to outdoor dining. Hair salons and barber shops need to be open too.

it says that hair salons/barber shops will open.

Yes, I realize that. I was naming the places that have been closed that I would like to return to.

No problem with outdoor dining, nail salons, etc. opening, all at 20%.
No problem packing Costco, Best Buy, Whole Foods with as many people that can fit in. To the left, churches are evil and don’t want people to go since it’s not safe. Figure that out!!

Many churches have never stopped having outdoor services during the past few months. I think it became pretty clear to our overlords, thanks to some court cases, that you can’t just indefinitely suspend First Amendment rights, particularly when it is so easy to just require i) outdoors, ii) distancing, iii) mask wearing.

This thing has been very political from the start people ! not saying covid is not real but very OVERBLOWN ! open your eyes a litter wider. it’s criminal in a major way.

first covid does not magically disappear after a few vaccinations given out. its still winter very much. now let’s take a chance and open everything up because they know the truth.

It’s overblown till a family member or friend dies.

@Silva,

That’s true in a way. But there has to be some social trade-off between liberty, self-governance, community and risk of death. We don’t require all freeways to have a speed limit of 30mph, or require small children to wear masks in school every winter, or prohibit family holiday gatherings during flu season. But those would save some lives.

If we just fully converted to a police state with a docile population (and, hypothetically, if we had competent government…) we could have prevented 90% of the Covid deaths. Would that have been worth it? I’m not saying that’s the *only* way we could have prevented many Covid deaths. Just making the point that preventing some deaths can’t be used to justify simply anything. Some things in our way of life are worth keeping even if they involve more risk of death.

If only the complainers wore masks from the start then we would not be in this mess and we would not have over 400,000 dead.

Silva- people die. That’s life. If not COVID, something else.

Doh- EVERYONE s wearing masks. There has been no correlation between mask wearing and covid transmissions when you look at pro and anti mask states.

led- you are the only one that makes sense. They goal should NEVER be 0 deaths. It is unrealistic and harmful for the general population.

Dr. F can take a long walk off a short pier. He is drunk with power and only wants to continue his stranglehold on us.

Dr. F is the highest paid civilian (Civil Service) worker in the US! His base salary is $439,000 per year!! He’s been there for almost 50 years.
What a clown!

I totallly agree Larry The man is a total con-artist that has conflict of interest making his

To the tune of more than $400,000 per year. And that’s just his official salary.

We’re not worthy

It’s nice that outdoor dinning is returning. It’s a bit late for some places though. Lots of places have closed down for good. I heard Baja Fresh in WC just closed. Perhaps they will change their minds with this change.

Gavin bin Lyin’ wants a break so he is handing off his hammer to Mitchoff!

Say hello to the new boss, same as the old boss…

Why not add more beds instead of shutting down economy and society?
If it were really about saving lives then why aren’t we required to wear 95 rated respirators (100 packs cost less than $100 now)?

Funny how things suddenly got better once sleepy Joe got into office.

Liberals like to demonize Trump for his action during Covid, but he shut down flights from China when dems were calling him racist for doing so, nancy pelosi was encouraging people to hug chinese people in China town during the Chinese new years parada in march (lol).

I do not and will not believe any thing this governor has to say. With his made up numbers and silly charts, he can manipulate this pandemic any which way he sees fit to help himself and his cronies. It would not surprise me if this is yet another set up, so that 2 or 3 weeks from now, he will be telling us the “opening” we tried only let to a new surge, so now we will need to close down again until at least we have a 70% ICU bed availability. Don’t trust this clown, recall him.

Imagine that 149 commercial airliners each carrying 250 people fell out of the sky in a single year? That’s roughly 37k people..in CA alone. Would you fight the FAA for grounding aircraft, or accuse them of being power hungry? These guys are trying to save lives in the face of a lot of unknown variables. You can fault the apparent decion making process, but not their intentions.

Congrats on winning the award for dumbest analogy in the history of dumb analogies…

Maybe… if those reported numbers were all actually COVID deaths and not bundled with pneumonia and flu like the CDC admitted. If all those people died of heart disease, would you picket in the streets to get rid of fast food? That’s a better analogy.

Tiers for Fears

Loved that band, Bad Nombre! Shout, shout, let it all out…

Karen is getting her hammer ready.

I’m sure just a big coincidence this is happening mere days after Joementia was installed as President.

lol

well once he declared sacramento open and the numbers they were lying about didnt match up with sac opening

pelosi had to direct him again against looking like an emperor and more like a gov who is under her control

the media fraud and dem political fraud are so obvious and rampant he forgot himself lol

sign the recall …..its for your familys best interest

We signed!

As a former hairstylist and restaurant owner I cannot for the life of me understand why a restaurant cannot be open for indoor service. I am in favor of both reopening however, it makes no sense to allow you to have a service where you are physically interacting with your stylist or manicurist yet you cannot sit in a restaurant and have a server bring you your meal. No physical contact involved at all. Our local restaurants are dying. We need inside dining to open along with the beauty service businesses.

Shame on you for using common sense…but that went out the window after the first few weeks of “flatten the curve” once (mostly) blue-state governors/“health officials” got a taste of power AND this was a cudgel that could be use to batter Orange Man Bad.

Of course in a free SANE society, EVERYTHING would be open, and we allow ADULTS to DECIDE FOR THEMSELVES what businesses they want to patronize, or if they would prefer to cower in their homes with a mask over their face.

Oh yes, now that just about every state is open and a Democrat is in the White House would you expect anything different? Yes, its all about the SCIENCE gavin. What a Fool. I’m waiting for the next order which I’ll disobey like all the others when Gavin will threaten us with the next lock down regarding Superbowl parties and gatherings.

Take of the damn masks and it all goes away!
