The State of California and Contra Costa County have posted conflicting, and drastically different numbers regarding ICU availability in the Bay Area region.
The State says the ICU availability is 3.5% (pictured below):
And Contra Costa County health services says the Bay Area’s ICU availability is 8.1% (pictured below):
Both numbers were updated on Thursday.
As we previously reported, the current COVID-19 Stay-at-Home order, which was set to expire today, will be lifted in the Bay Area when ICU availability meets or exceeds 15%, according to the State of California.
Maybe it’s all that common core math!
I definitely do not trust the states numbers.I have my doubts about the counties. But one thing for sure keeping outdoor dining and barbers shops etc. closed is all political. It’s a free for all at grocery stores and Costco. What the hell is the difference?
Covid math.Don’t try to understand it. Very few have mastered it.
This ICU metric is too volatile from day to day to use as a trigger for anything.
What we need to be tracking is the percentage of surge capacity ICU averaged over a week. Surge capacity must consider both available equipment and staff.
So disappointed with Governor Newsome and his grade school level metrics.
The left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing….no surprise here!! The incompetency is embarrassing as we have to live under these baseless mandates…
This is worth posting again, they evidently rocked the boat.
‘Doctors Challenge Contra Costa Public Health Officials: One Doc Gets ‘Removed,’ Two Reprimanded’
“Three John Muir Hospital physicians recently sent a letter to Dr. Chris Farnitano, Contra Costa Public Health Doctor, challenging several crucial issues surrounding the state and county health officials’ handling the COVID-19 virus in California, and the data being manipulated to keep Californians in lockdown.”

As disheartening as Wednesday was in the capital…the way doctors (you know, intelligent, science based individuals) are routinely silenced for not carrying the water of the legislators/govern is extremely concerning.
We use to encourage opposing views as a means to test the strengths and merits of our own view points. Now we simply shut down opposing views immediately, as if the powers that be are infallible.
Survival of the fittest. None of my extensive family has gotten sick. Through all the parties and get togethers none of my friends or family been affected. Either good genes or we just all have spent our lives camping and not afraid of germs and building up our immune system. I feel sorry for all the innocent people who have died but probably they have live sheltered lives
If you haven’t eaten food off the ground with your hands when you haven’t lived LOL
The population in each county north of Sacramento is less per square mile than Contra Costa County. So, less people to be around and less chance to get COVID unless they are traveling to the more populated parts of the state and are around infected people. I don’t know that I would say they have a better grip on it.
Word on the street is the hospitals are shovin’ ’em out the door.
Things ain’t looking good.
That is true. Yet we have people that still think their freedoms are taken away by Government. The dumber they get the more people are dying or strapped with lifetime symptoms of COVID-19. Blaming our governor and Democrats will not solve anything. You read these posts and it is very depressing to think folks use these ideas as constructive problem solving. The answer is because people do what they wanted over the holidays we will suffer their bad choices and so will they, Until we follow the protocols things will improve. Make your choice. We are all under house arrest until we get our vaccines and follow the rules. Sad.
if the press no longer checks the people in power than those in power never have to answer for their actions, RIP middle class

I know of a doctor in John Muir and he says COVID Is way out of control here. Things are terrible in our hospitals. God forbid we need hospitalization! He said really are bad more than ever.
Any guesses as to when they will change it to “20%” instead of “15%”?
“Well, you know, there’s this new strain of virus, blah blah blah….”
Even CCC’s math is off? 143 occupied beds and 33 beds are available. That’s 18.5%. Does anybody know if they are using another metric that we cannot see or are they just bad at math?
Contra Costa County numbers aren’t current. They are for the previous week. It says so on the website.
Where did they cook these books? The French Laundry?
Wow ..
Imagine if we did the calculation as number of beds available divided by total number of ICU beds. That gives us a percentage.
But no, first, we have to do some new fangled math of the simple division and then based on some other percentage we subtract more.
And probably more importantly, the state has its own number of available beds. Why does the state decide what our total is and not the local hospitals? Of course, why does the state allow the locals to decide if our hospitals are overrun ..
O yeah, Newscum wants to be a dictator.
the lies are piling up
the state is lying like there is no tomorrow
oh wait ……..
wow it appears the state has had a gift of covid
to scam us with socialism tactics
lying and stealing everything
while blaming someone else
used to call that thieving
now its called … democrat anxiety retrieval tactic socialism
Gavin’s lying as usual.
Wow – a whole $43,000 fine. I hope Kaiser can afford it.
Here is a number you can count on:

Ask your neighbor who is a doctor or a nurse. They will tell you how “bad” it is. They know and they are not lying when they say it is very challenging.
Yea, send that clown back to the circus.
Joe has a ventriloquist behind him named Zuckerberg.
How does CCC calculate there percent because my calculations with 145 icu beds being used and 33 available equals 178 total that would be 18.5%.
the other question is why, is there only 178 bed for all of CCC.
word has it Yelp! has contacted the county claiming they can help fill those beds for a fee.
I say its at 4.20%
