The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday at noon.
Today’s question:
How much did you spend on Christmas presents this year?
- A: $0 – $500
- B: $500 – $1,000
- C: Over $1,000
Talk about it….
The amount people spend on Christmas gifts varies widely depending on factors such as budget, personal preferences, and the number of people on their list. On average, Americans tend to spend anywhere from $500 to over $1,000 on Christmas gifts, according to reports. This includes presents for family, friends, coworkers, and sometimes charitable donations or Secret Santa exchanges.
Some individuals plan ahead by setting a holiday budget months in advance, ensuring they don’t overspend. Others might take a more spontaneous approach, picking out gifts as they find something perfect. Gift-giving traditions and the size of one’s family also impact spending. A family with several children and extended relatives may see their holiday budget stretched further, especially when considering thoughtful touches like personalized hampers, compared to a smaller household.
Many shoppers take advantage of Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, scoring gifts at a fraction of the original cost. Others prefer to shop throughout the year, picking up thoughtful presents whenever they see them. Online shopping has also made it easier to compare prices and find the best deals without leaving home.
For those looking to keep spending under control, DIY gifts or experiences like cooking a special meal or planning a memorable outing can also be a meaningful alternative. Ultimately, how much one spends on Christmas gifts is a personal decision, and the holiday spirit is often less about the price tag and more about the thought and love that goes into the gift.
Probably “C”. Grandchildren are 100% spoiled by PAPA.
@Simonpure
Just the way it should be. 🙂
@ Simonpure~
Oh, I would too, if I had Grand-Kids,… 🙂
Hope You and the Family have a Wonderful Christmas.
Stay Health and Happy,….Hugs!
They are coming soon Roz…You will be making several rips to Colorado. Peace and love to you and yours.
@simonpure, What is with you Papa’s? Lol My husband also spoils my grandchildren at Christmas. I wished I’d had a Papa. Papa’s are the best.
We spent less this year than we have in many years, but the answer is still C.
$313.32…..I’m usually with the entire family in San Mateo County on Xmas Eve. We always do Secret Santa. I have twelve nieces, three great nephews and talked to each of them to take care of it another way this year. I noticed the gift I got from my Secret Santa was straight from the company/aka niece…
C
C for sure plus about two thousand to various charities. Maybe more, my wife wrote out a lot of checks. I won’t find out for sure until the bank statement arrives. We also gave a good tip to our newspaper carriers. We used to tip the newsboy every time he collected but that stopped when they hired adults who we never see. We pay for the newspaper by mail and then give the carriers a substantial tip at Christmas time. They do include a self addressed envelope with the paper. Merry Christmas !!!
B
“C” Some Christmas stimulus after a tough year.
C: I don’t know how much, to be honest, but certainly a “C”
C. It’s all about my kids and grandchildren love to spoil them. They work very hard all year and take care of there families. So for me on birthday’s and Christmas we go out of our way for them.
A, Absolutely $0.
Nobody gets anything as no money to buy anything as the world has gone to $#!t and work barely pays the bills, plus have thousands in medical bills, had a miscarriage, lack of life, and just dark days ahead.
I’m so sorry. Sending you love through the ethernet.
@ Sux~
Darn! My Heart hurts to read this.
Many here on Claycord, will hope things get better soon for you.
Things will get better, really.
$0.00- Every day is Christmas at our house. 🙃
Just barely out of A into B
A) $0 if we are speaking about a purchase. Gave money to our son who is out of work, and out of benefits, due to the Corona-Mania lockdown.
Now we plan to buy a house next month (out of state). Is that a gift, or just my part in The Great Escape?
Where you going to? I think you are not alone.
Good luck in 2021!
A Gift?,….more like a reward for working hard,….retiring too?
So, where are you going,…thought you had mentioned it before.
Congratulations on the move and best of luck to you.
Just a hair into C.,…The little gifts to the neighbors and others was under $170, but we did a bit more for our Daughter & her Hubby this year. Helped to restock some items for their kitchen and bedroom. Moving from Alaska to Colorado, they had to leave so much behind.
C – for four adult children
A. Scaled way back this year.
In the past it’s been many Cs.
Not this year.
Zero absolutely zero, unless you count the new car I bought myself haha!
C. Wish it was A but with a son, high maintenance wife and way too big of an extended family and friends group, it gets out of control quickly. Thank God every day I have the means to afford it still!
A this year. I stopped giving gifts to a lot of people. I was a C in prior years. The grandson is the only one I spent money on besides the gardener and housekeeper. I used my credit card reward points to get gift cards for other members of the family. I did send Christmas cards to people I care about. I enjoy getting them and do not need any gifts.
Why does Christmas have to be about presents? Why do people feel they “have” to give presents? Why do parents get guilted into indulging kids with presents? And we have toy drives to be sure kids get presents? That asnt what Christmas was supposed to be! I spent $0 on presents but will gift homemade treats to friends and family. I’ll make donations to my favorit’s charities. But I won’t fall into the commercial trap of Xmas ever again
C. We need a fresh start and a little boost
About $900.
B.
I usually start my Christmas shopping for the year at the after Christmas sales. I also keep an eye out the rest of the year for other sales that might be a gift for someone. I try to stay in B but sometimes edge towards C. I still have to some last minute shopping after I sort out the collection of items when wrapping time arrives.
C – My husband and I have been together 30 years, no children together. I have 2 grandchildren that we buy for. Husband on his own also buys presents for Grandkids. Which use to drive me crazy. Now I realize how lucky I am.
