The California Department of Motor Vehicles will continue its suspension of behind-the-wheel driving tests until at least January 4 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The DMV previously announced a two-week suspension through December 28.
Customers with scheduled appointments through January 4 will be notified their tests are canceled. The DMV will automatically reschedule the tests for a later date.
In-vehicle testing is a requirement for first-time driver license holders and commercial license applicants. The temporary suspension includes commercial and noncommercial tests, but does not apply to motorcycle drive tests, which can be conducted at a safe distance.
Well there’s romney’s dog alternative.
With as poorly as people drive on the road today, I’d say that behind-the-wheel testing is an abject failure.
Blame whoever taught the drivers. Blame the police for not giving out more tickets.
Chuckie, you hit the nail on the head Bro.
Who needs a license anyways…no penalties no worries
There was a time when driving without a license got your car impounded, but California’s elected officials decided to stop that practice, since it disproportionately affected one of their core constituencies.
Go figure!
Not true,if caught driving on a suspended license, the car driven by that person is impounded and held for 60 days, even if it isn’t their car.
Correction-30 days.
And it has made tow yard owners millionaires.
… it is sooooooo subjective…. ymmv depending on who you get.
I rode a bike everywhere for fifteen years, and learned how to ride a motorcycle, before I ever sat behind a wheel. Sitting in a comfy chair that won’t tip over is child’s play by comparison. No clutch… no front/rear brake skills… you hit the curb and it doesn’t matter… A lot of drivers drive like they’ve never had skin in the game, or they’ve never piloted a set of wheels outside of a video game.
