All “limited indoor retail services” such as pet grooming, shoe repair, etc. is now closed until at least Jan.4, 2021, according to the Contra Costa County Health Department.
The announcement was made today without any further information, including what other businesses are included under “limited indoor retail services.”

Make it stop!!!
I really think the health authorities have gone haywire! The closing of Shoe repair and dog grooming is hurting no one but the business owner…where’s the science?
Unless they have newly discovered science that dogs and shoes are transmitting Covid, I have to call BS on these latest random shutdowns of small businesses.
Those dogs are big sources of community spread! What if the grooming is done outside? Such a joke.
Shoes – it was already curb side only.
We can gripe all we want but it won’t change the way the crazy Govinator from wielding his pen! He can tell us we must jump up and down and we’ll have to do it. Evidently science has nothing to do woth anything. He and his nutty Auntie are power hungry. So the doggies don’t get their fluffs and you will have to wear your shoes with holes… it his call!
Say what? Are dogs spreaders now?
Tyranny at it’s finest!
There hasn’t been enough citizens complaining about these closures Has the science said these business have to be closed or is the politicians?
No ever said Government had a brain! Muffy may get Covid!
Recall all the supes and get some reasonable people to manage the Health Department.
The key term is: “at least”…..This NEVER going to end until these people are recalled or thrown out of Office.
I do believe it’s time to declare the Contra Costa County Health Department as non-essential and shut em down. Sorry Farnitano, your services are no longer required.
Gotta luv knee jerk response from the political front. I guess that’s why they call it political science..
Am I glad the shoe repair place I go to will be shut down. There are so many people wall to wall in there that there just any room. They should have been closed months ago. Does anyone wonder if bureaucrats have a type of mental illness? Kind of a redundant question.
Yes…..yes…..let’s especially focus on eliminating Shoe Repair businesses. Those guys are the scrounge of society.
Bravo comrade Mitchoff.
This is a total sham. Quit being lambs led to the slaughter and the socialist agenda. Look at the numbers. Look at the data. At least here in CC County, these draconian measures are not warranted or necessary. What fools. After living here (and paying these absurd taxes) for nearly 40 years…good bye. I’ve already closed a business office of 24-years and it’s time to tell these idiots “later” move on and be productive in a location that appreciates my freedom, rights and opportunity to make a living outside of the socialist bubble (and I work in an “essential” industry). And, I’m taking my retirements with me. The rest of you either need to come to grip with the society you voted for and empowered…or leave. I chose the later.
Right behind ya Joe. My family has been here for over 100 years. We closed two family business’s one a 25 year and the other 65 years because of these shutdowns. We will set up shop where we are welcome.
.
So arbitrary on what is open or limited.
.
Is this based on “science” as touted by Governor Nuisance?
.
Where is the data???
.
There isn’t any. The whole “following science” claim is a complete farce that was purely political. They’re just making stuff up because they don’t really know what to do and they don’t feel they can get away with a Wuhan style or Australian style severe lockdown.
Wow. This is looney bin material. So shopping malls are open at 20% capacity, but groomers, who were already limited to drop off only now have to shut down? Same for shoe repair. Shouldn’t they have shut down shopping malls first?
Are any of you here dog groomers or shoe repair people and you upset Komrade Mitchoff?
Please explain to me how getting your shoes repaired or dog groomed are more dangerous then buying a shirt at The Gap which is allowed?? Oh yeah, so sales tax collected on services. This is BEYOND ridiculous! Make it stop NOW.
Exactly!!! And what about Peets and Starbucks? I’m closer to people there than when I drop my dog off to be groomed. These people are freakin’ idiots!!!
Just bought some Krazy Glue, fixed my own shoes…
Thank you for caring about us CCC and Governor Newscum! You’re knowledge of science and applying it to society is absolutely amazing. I sleep better at night knowing YOU aren’t financially affected. What would we do if YOU didn’t have your job? The thought of it makes me hyperventilate. I hope all of you get a nice Christmas bonus this year for a job well done!
You forgot to say “systemic”. They love the word “systemic”.
Political correctness sincere or otherwise, is their obvious priority.
This is insane!!! My dog goes to the groomer and I don’t even get near the ladies doing the grooming. I let go of his leash in the entry way of the office and they take the leash on the other side of the door. Whoever is making up these rules and closures needs his head examined!! You are all a bunch of jerks!!!! You are not consisent in your closures at all.
Effing politicians!
Useless!
Wow, shoe repair, that’s a high density environment. You drop your stuff off, you pick it up. I don’t get it. Most shoe repair places I have seen are one-man operations or a couple of family members, so no added risk to employees. Weird.
Agree!!!! Makes NO sense!
Great ! now my Poodle can’t get her Brazilian wax now.
My stock shares in Shoe-GOO just shot up 34 points !
Gosh, do I stand corrected…
Up 61% at today’s close……….
@Always Right,
If anyone thinks our county health dept. will do the right thing they are crazy. Vaccine distribution will absolutely be driven by their “social justice” agenda. They will probably start with criminals getting the vaccine first and work their way up from there.
Fortunately I’m not in a big rush to get this vaccine so I’m ok with waiting.
Businesses that are forced to shut down that could other wise operate safely, like shoe repair and pet groomers need to start filing lawsuits against Dr. Farnitano (County Health Officer). Overwhelm this tyrant. And if anyone says science shows the shutdowns are necessary forget it. For every scientist that says shut down another will say stay open. Its easy for someone (Farnitano) to put these orders in place because it does not affect his ability to make a living.
He doesn’t care about how many businesses go under or how many people are financially and emotionally devastated. He believes his job performance is solely about case counts, hospitalizations, deaths, and whatever other “metrics” the politicians come up with. It’s hard to comprehend how someone with such incredible lack of empathy became a physician and public health official.
The stupid part of all this is that people aren’t getting COVID dropping off their dog at the groomer or their shoes at the cobbler. They’re getting it from their family members and closest friends at holiday gatherings, parties, weddings, and funerals where people aren’t wearing masks.
You can buy shoes but you can’t leave them outside to get them repaired? You can hand your dog over outside to the vet but you can’t hand the same dog over outside to the groomer? Really?

You’ve brought up some interesting points, Always Right! In fact, the Board of Supervisors just brought up at their last meeting about an “Ethical/Equitable Committee” to try to solve this vaccination dilemma.
138/279 deaths are in LTHCF and culturally, Hispanics tend to care for their older folks in extended family households, which would explain why more whites are dying from Covid (outbreaks in facilities). Also, according to the County Dashboard 43% of deaths are female and 57% are male, which poses another conundrum: do we vaccinate more males than females? Also, as society moves away from binary gender, how do we decipher risk, while trying to be politically correct? The list can go on..,.

This is ridiculous!
I bring my dog to a very small grooming shop. One groomer. I drop my dog off, she takes him and then brings him to the car when done. She works alone and owns her own business. She always wears a mask, social distances. But, this next shut down will most likely put her out of business. Unfortunately, she is not the only business that’s at risk. So sad.
This needs to stop
I totally agree!!! In fact, I think they should stay open and if they get fined, sue the county!!! THIS MAKES NO SENSE WHATSOEVER!!!!
@ Chester. I totally agree with you! But from what I’m hearing from small business owners is that if they are fined, they can’t afford the fine, and some are worried about losing the business license. Maybe a class action suit would be in order.
This is definitely shifting my mindset to the right. I’m ready to vote for Gav’s opponent!!
The health department is just confused. Someone needs to tell them “YOU DON’T WEAR YOUR SHOES WHEN GETTING REPAIRED! AND YOU ARE NOT IN THE TUB WITH THE DOG!” Day by day it gets worse.
Not just the governor but dr fatten head. Time to get going and Protestant maybe a March in Martinez ASAP
And don’t even think about fining those out of work, no assistance and eating and rent
Stupid county supervisors

The time for trying to make sense out of this is over. There is no logic, there is no data or science to support these arbitrary decisions.
Make a list of everyone you know, and contact them to suggest they sign the Newsom recall. I heard today they have crossed One Million signatures; lets push it through!
The logic is that you’re cattle and your owners hate you. Then it makes sense.
Glad I remembered to pick up my husband’s dress boots at our local shoe repair store a few weeks ago. Owner did a great job resoling them, but my husband is out if work now, so no need for them. Seriously, why aren’t we all just rising up at this point? Small business owners should band together and just say no…this is so arbitrary.
After reviewing the matrix, basically we can work out at a cemetery
This is idiotic! Where’s the high risk in pet grooming, especially when the groomer we uses allows only one customer in at a time and was about to switch to curbside service? Where’s the risk in having a customer bring shoes to a cobbler and the cobbler goes alone into his workshop to repair them?
Why do our health officials and politicians seem so determined to destroy so many small businesses and jobs without any rationale? Small business owners need to unite to file an emergency lawsuit. I doubt they have the money to hire the lawyers, though. I would donate to this cause!
I agree!! I would also donate to this cause! They should refuse to close up their shops! And if they get fined, sue the pants off the county!
Wait so my job can still have 50+ people inside to shop yet I cant make an appointment to take my dog for a nail trimming or drop my shoes off to the little individually owned shoe shop? Gotta love it, goodbye local businesses and family shops
Hope the lawsuits and open recalls keep coming. Newsom was on record admitting that outdoor dining is not a spreader why shut it diwn…control
Glad I remembered to pick up my husband’s dress boots from Ike’s a few weeks ago. Owner did a great job resoling them, but in the end my husband wore them once before being forced out of work again (musician). How is a shop like Ike’s an issue?? And when are shop owners going to and together and push back re: the arbitrary nature of all this? I will be right there to support them.
Excuse for duplicate posts…been having trouble replying from my phone.
I don’t understand what going on here. I agree that the virus is very serious, but she repair shops. Have you ever sense more than one person in a shop at a time. Also why no outdoor dining. Is there any scientific data about outdoor dining.
I think the head of CCHD enjoys messing with peoples lives.
JUST SAYING.
I don’t see the logic of closing cobblers or dog groomers either. Perhaps the intent is to add a few categories at a time to avoid major push-backs, with the end goal of shutting down nearly everything in order to clear the streets. Remember the S.I.P. last Spring? The streets were deserted except for the folks who needed toilet paper, whereas this time most are ignoring the current S.I.P.
@Kirkwood….Closing down cobblers wouldn’t make my Granny happy, she made the best cherry and peach ones.
Rico, you said it best, how in the world did he became a physician. You would think the fact that he is a physician wants to help people would be a mitigating factor in how he is dealing with this.
Some small businesses refuse to shut down…
