The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it.
The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday at noon.
Today’s question:
QUESTION: Have you noticed in the recent years that people don’t pull over when they see emergency vehicles driving with lights & sirens? If so, why do you think people are not doing what the laws says they’re supposed to do?
Talk about it!
I have noticed…it’s become a me me me world.
A partial list of things drivers no longer do:
Carry insurance
Use a turn signal
Make a head check
Stop when the light turns red
Use the hand’s free option for electronic devices
Remain at the scene of an accident (hit and run)
So why would anyone bother to pull out of the way of the police or fire department?
I’ll add to your list: Stopping before turning right on a red light.
What is: “Because people no longer respect the police”. Did I win?
People don’t pull over because they have earbuds/headphones blasting in their ears and their mirrors pointed at their own faces because no one taught them what rear view mirrors are actually used for. They got the same education regarding their turn signals which so many people fail to use or know how to use apparently.
i agree that a great many people simply do not hear the sirens, and they don’t keep up a real and side mirrors scan.
My vehicle, my choice. I refuse to obey an unconstitutional mandate that infringes on my personal liberty. No one has the right to tell me how to drive my own car. Multiple studies have shown that emergency vehicles have little to no effect on public safety. If you want to be a sheep and submit to socialist ambulances that’s your choice. I will maintain my rugged individualism thank you very much.
Not even apples and oranges, Comrade.
If that is tongue in cheek great. If not you belong in a loony bin.
You know this Comrade Grandkid fella is the first guy who’d try to sue the city, county, and state if his kid died in that ambulance and that someone wasn’t pulling over for due to that “unconstitutional mandate”.
Remember kids, it’s only a political issue when you don’t actually understand the issue and have no stakes in it to begin with.
Your sarcasm amuses Mother Russia
A comparison between rights enshrined in the Constitution and the privilege to operate a vehicle. Amusing, but a long way wide of the mark.
I agree, People have become robot like and uncaring about their fellow man, but many times it is almost impossible to get over for instance (Ygnacio Valley Rd.) during rush hour. and people freeze not knowing what to do.
On another note, their music is blaring and they can’t hear the sirens
Many have never read the drivers manual instructions and/or are just plain ignorant!.
To those that pull over asap, you are good people! xo.
Yes, I’ve noticed it. And I’m pretty sure it’s because people don’t give a rat’s behind about anybody but themselves anymore. Everybody acts like they’re the center of the universe.
The headline made me laugh. I signed in just after attending a two-hour class via ZOOM and my mind was on the international. WC, pronounced dooble-vay-say in Franch, means one is looking for the water closet, known as the bathroom here. Thanx for the giggle.
It’s because divers education is no longer taught in high school and anyone over the age of 18 can get a license by memorizing the DMV practice tests and passing a 12 minute behind-the-wheel test. The disrespect and ignorance I see of drivers is astounding.
Darwin here is a lead -Comrade Grandkid
I have noticed that and other activities. Always wonder why, perhaps its your own house on fire…..guess they never think of that. I have noticed another thing that some have been doing. When at a three or four way stop, when its your turn to enter the intersection, the person behind you will tailgate right behind you and turn with you. Dangerous, and illegal. Don’t get the reason for that? Has anyone else had this happen to them? Its like you are towing them through the intersection…
Stopped at light Clayton Rd. and Ygnacio Valley Rd. an Fire engine came down Clayton Rd towards Clayton and panel truck kept right on driving never pulled over as engine went past. That was about 20 minutes ago.
Fail to use your turn signal in Clayton and you’ll likely get to meet a Clayton Police Officer. They’ll check your registration, insurance, run you for warrants suspended license and possibly give you a ticket.
Last time it happened I was on Monument, near 680. We all pulled over 😊
Even if someone doesn’t hear the siren, they should see the lights or see others pulling over 😔
If a loved one needed assistance, I would hope others would pull over for their sake.
I’ve seen it several times, they just keep driving so maybe they’ve got music on or are on their phones and not looking in the mirrors. Of course should somebody they know or love need an ambulance or fire truck, then that would be a different reaction I hope.
Agree with those who won’t use their turn signal, what’s that about?
Yes I have been aware of the prevailing attitude. Screw you! I will do
whatever I want to. They never use their turn signals. I think most people are not educated. I have known 1/2 folks have low I Q’s. They are self centered and have no idea that their actions impact others. Same with the people who want to not wear masks, have large family gatherings and not practicing social distances. We have a ME FIRST culture in USA! Very bad and frustrating for the rest of us who try to do right.
Who knew a comment like that was going to come from popcorn?
@JoJo
Why did you bother?
I don’t disagree with the sentiments that have come before and especially like Comrad gradkid (sarcasm can be funny). However, where I see this the most is when I am stuck in traffic (local and Frwy). the road is n lanes wide and full of cars (no emergency lane) and look there is an emergency vehicle behind you honking and sirens going. Where do I go? can’t move to the side, can’t go forward. Our infrastructure designs are not keeping up with demand and this is a result.
try and get an emergency vehicle east bound on hwy 4 at 5:30PM.
Not sure Comrade’s comment was meant as sarcasm, although I suspect it was, since it was so outrageous, wish he/she would let us know.
You can hardly go anywhere in Claycord without seeing at least one ambulance. I don’t remember seeing anyone violate red light protocol, some do better than others.
I have and it just seems like no one is teaching these people any more, to be honest.
Too much daydreaming, especially this year. People are preoccupied like never before.
I still use my mirrors all the time and am always ready to move over. I move over for emergency vehicles, kids racing their Honda’s with the 5” tailpipes, or the stolen Escalades with the giant rims.
The life you save may be your own……..
There are so many distracted oblivious morons driving it’s a wonder there aren’t more accidents than there are. If all of the bad drivers were removed from the roads there would never be any traffic.
I have to say I see consistently many pull over, and do not recall any case where they did not. Limited number, to be sure, maybe a dozen times in the last year or so, but I see people do pull over.
Come and run red lights in Pleasant Hill. I guarantee you will not be stopped, my guys have been doing donuts in the streets for the past few weeks and no one has dared to stop us. If you want to get in on the action come by Chilpancingo and Concord Ave this Friday night for a huge racing event.
Very impressive, big man.
Virtually NOBODY understands the requirement to clear intersections and pull to the right and stop even if the emergency vehicle is approaching from the oncoming lanes of traffic.
