In Contra Costa County, 32 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19. In the nine county bay area, 235 are hospitalized with COVID-19.
5 of the 32 in Contra Costa County are in the ICU. There are currently 49 ICU beds available in Contra Costa County.
The county also has 190 available ventilators.
The population of Contra Costa County is about 1.2-million. The population of the nine county Bay Area is about 7.4-million.
very sad.
though it does not match what the media is saying, something like 1 person getting sick every second and one person dying every hour.
#DefundTheMedia
#Trump2020
That is based on the national average. The virus is surging in many states and cities. Their hospitals are full and they’re having to open additional space. These are actual facts with video to support it. California has done a better job than other states. I hope it stays that way through the winter!
All California has done is delay the inevitable at the expense of its residents’ economic and mental health. Even the Most High Lord Fauci stated early on that mitigation was a stop-gap measure to “flatten the curve” and give the health care industry time to ramp-up and expand. He stated we will all probably get it in the end and the same number of people will die. We cannot destroy our economy and our children’s future for a delaying action. The lock-downs are one of the greatest travesties perpetrated against US citizens by our own government in all our history.
lol 32 ahhhh run
well only 5 are considered needing treatment
again its a virus and yes hundreds of people cant deal with keeping themselves healthy and have to seek free healthcare
and of course the hospitals abuse the obama scam system and grab up any and all fed money like a pezz dispenser
no matter how many ahhhhh numbers you throw at us
the truth is way less than even you can fake
eat right take your vitamins and drink lots of water …
just like with any virus …..
yes its a sars version so hey guess what stop smoking maybe
dont hear that on democrat news media do you …..
common sense people because other wise your listening to politicians and liberal socialists who want you to be afraid so they can control you
you have brains ….use them or be used
As sad as that is, it still equates to an average of 2 people per city in all of Contra Costa County…
Attn: Dr.Random
You neglected to add your favorite;
“It’s only the flu.”
And, Obama has been out of office nearly 4 years, so this epidemic belongs to Trump; he owns it.
Even if you remain healthy, you still can be affected by the number of hospital beds and/or ICU beds available.
Imagine getting in a serious accident and not having a bed for your treatment ?
Its up to all of us to not let those hospital numbers creep up.
You have a brain, use it!
Thanks for your cooperation in advance 👍
Trump deserves a lot of flak for his handling of the pandemic. But look more broadly: right now Europe is surging just as badly as the US, even though it is full of political leaders who “believe in science” or whatever stupid phrase is current. It’s not all about Trump – the virus is a virus, and doesn’t exist to confirm your political priors.
3 people died if Covid yesterday.
WE BELIEVE IN SCIENCE, BUT WE DON’T BELIEVE IN NEWSOM!
Newsom and Science are mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive….
San Pablo has led the county in cases per 100,000 since early in the pandemic. 5.1% of the city’s population has already been confirmed to have been infected since the beginning. The epidemiologists say that the actual number of infections can be as high as ten times the number that have been confirmed by testing. One might think they’d be approaching herd immunity by now, but their new case rate continues to be very high.
Closer to home, Martinez, which has had a relatively low case rate for months, has now had its rate shoot up to join the tier of cities with high infection rates.
We are no longer in dire straits…nothing to report here…move along, folks and enjoy your Halloween weekend!
We do have an idiot for a Governor but I guess you like him and are proud of him. Calling people morons is so accepting and uniting of you, oh and by the way the vaccine will not be available for the general pop in 2021 straight from our wonderful Govys mouth are you really saying that we all need to cower in fear from a flu that has a 98% recovery rate. You can wait all you want for that…
A breakdown of deaths on CoCo county for day, week, month would be helpful to put CV-19 death rate into perspective, as would number of people recovered
Also a comparison to deaths from Flu last year same time periods.
@Original G – The only summaries normally available for various causes of death are annual summaries which are often release late in the following year. This gives medical examiners and other sources of the raw data to finalize their investigations into each case. A while I wrote a Claycord comment had a link to where the county files the annual reports. I can’t find that post nor can I remember what the report is called.
There is a weekly report but I’ve never spent a lot of time looking at it. Google for “California” “Influenza and Other Respiratory Viruses” It looks like for reporting purposes that the flu season starts in late September and runs for a year. The current season started September 27, 2020 and there have been zero deaths since then. I’m surprised they don’t include the SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19 numbers as that would seem to qualify as an “Other Respiratory Virus.”
WC Resident, … Thank You, will give it a try.
@Original G – I thought of a keyword that I could use to search for my previous comment and found this from early August
https://www.claycord.com/2020/08/09/daily-update-947-active-cases-of-covid-19-in-contra-costa-county-99-people-currently-hospitalized/#comment-1322206
There’s one paragraph in there where I compute the number of expected deaths and then compare that to COVID-19. Here’s an updated version of that paragraph.
In August COVID-19 was in 6th or 7th place on the most likely ways to die in the county. As there have been more deaths per day from COVID-19 over the past couple of months, COVID-19 is now in 5th place. The flu is down in 8th place in the original table and now is likely in 9th or 10th place. I believe the more frequent use of masks, social distancing, and other precautions we are taking for COVID-19 will drive the flu out of the top-ten list.
Minor correction – it’s an expected 5,213 deaths from all causes in the 242 days since 3/1/2020. I had written 5,234 earlier but that’s for 243 days. The percentage I had, 4.72%, was and is correct.
And… Almost immediately the topic is steered into a politic tangent and people find away to either promote their side or bash the other. 🙄.
Does anybody still have they ability to talk about a subject without changing it?
Sheesh.
Is that all we are now? A nation of red and blue?
I’ll be glad when this nonsense is over.
I’m just curious why the variability, and this major increase in cases continent wide. I’ve seen speculation that Europe is spiking because they are going into the colder months, the theory being it is more transmissible in cold weather. Much of Europe did see a big spike in the beginning, like Italy France and the UK. So if they can get this massive second wave, there is no reason it can’t happen in the US as well. Perhaps the relatively high caseload the US has had over the summer means we are slightly less susceptible to a second wave, but I wouldn’t count on it. Apparently even North Italy is spiking again, and they got hit as hard as anywhere in the world.
If Europe’s situation is in our future, it might behoove people to stock up on TP soap and non-perishable foods again. UK and France are back in lockdown panic-buy modes, that might be coming our way again too.
This damn thing confounds all efforts at prediction, anyone that tells you they know what’s coming or has it figured out is high on their own supply.
It seems that here in CCC there is at least one death almost, but not quite, each day. I don’t check the running 10 average but the total from the start.
32 I hospital with Convid and what else ? Almost a non issue. glad we are leaving Californicate.
In the last fifteen days three people in the county have died from the China virus. Two were in long term care and one not. That is from the CCC health department ten minutes ago.
Claycord, do you have the skill nursing facility (SNF) numbers? Last time I look of the 15 deaths in Pleasant Hill all 15 occurred from a SNF. The county site stopped showing that number last time I checked.
@Brian Schnabel – the county is showing the LTCF/SNF numbers on https://www.coronavirus.cchealth.org/overview Once there go to Deaths by Location
For Pleasant Hill it’s 23 total deaths with 22 of them being residents of LTCF/SNF
The county has never broken out the SNF numbers. The data for SNF has always been under the LTCF umbrella. The county used to include a table of the LTCF facilities and the case/death numbers for each with their daily reports. They stopped doing that on August 16th. If that table were still available then people could extract the SNF numbers by figuring out which facilities were SNF.
Driving through Utah today my phone squawked with emergency text . The text said hospitals almost full in Utah due to large increase in CV cases.
Seems Utah, with 1/10 th the population of California had more new cases then California today.
What has the weather been like there lately? I’ve seen studies linking the majority of new cases to infections within households. If Utah is cooling down and people are spending more time indoors to stay warm, perhaps that is driving it?
Honestly I can’t be the only one who could care less about the numbers.
Sure was fun being in the Orange tier for a week 🙄
Our weather here in the bay still hasn’t even turned cold yet, hence our normal flu season hasn’t really begun. For all you people downplaying this pandemic as if it’s just going to blow over and your idiotic life will magically return to normal again next year, wake up. This is the way life is going to be until a vaccine, and then after that, years of economic strife. It’s not fear mongering, it’s truth based on history, and as any intelligent person knows, history tends to.repeat itself
What history predicts that? Honest question, I am not aware of the last time a novel respiratory virus has been introduced to humanity.
Most other deadly viruses have a year or two in which they ravage a population, after which herd immunity occurs and it either disappears or goes endemic. A vaccine would accelerate that by achieving herd immunity earlier.
I can see this being an issue well into 2021, but why do you think it is bound to be multiple years? And why would the economy remain devastated afterwards?
To everyone who supports the lockdowns: the economic loss to poor countries and people’s is going to be devastating. Many millions upon millions will die as a result of the coming poverty that will last for at least a generation and set countries back that have made gains.
Congrats. Y’all are killing millions.
so wait
dems are saying oh the numbers and wear a mask and sanitize your mail and ups packages and social distance and what ever else the regime says
so first off the numbers …they say so scary …
but what are these numbers and when are they being called out
so you dems are saying that the gov can check everyone of us in the county and post numbers and predictions ….wow that is astonishing
and the mask ….that the cdc said you could be a napkin or bandanna taped to your face and it will work to stop the spread ….astonishing ..right follow the science
and sanitize your mail and packages for days before opening ….amazing science just astonishing
oh and social distance …which we did for 4 months and we still had the democrat media feeding us rising numbers …that again are astonishing figures taken from everyone even if they didnt know it while they sat in teir homes …just wow
so dem scientists and their so called actual scientists ….what happened
if we all sat inside and did those things
and you all are distancing (rioting )and wearing your approved face cover
and santizing your mail and not opening for days at a time
then why are the so called numbers still so high
i mean is you say your doing everything your supposed to do
and this state is supposedly all blue
accept for a trickle of hard working red blooded americans
and you say it is us not doing what we are supposed to ….then why ae the numbers acting like a made up scenario that covers an entire population and has infected numbers so far out of wack with the knowledge you are ranting about and blaming on everyone else
can you explain that ???
Numbers are high due to violent democrat-voting rioters going out into the street to terrorize innocents en masse, with no social distancing, yelling in each others faces, using their masks only occasionally when committing horrible crimes. If there were no leftist riots, there would be far fewer cases.
No Trump, no “leftist riots”. Still his pandemic and his failure. Vote out the idiot
Darryl, California is ground zero for the virus. The Wu Han flu has been here since late 2019. California is months ahead of the other states.
So .00003% of CCC is in the hospital due to COVID? My goodness! This is why Dr. F has called a shutdown and the Supervisors have supported him?
Give me a break!
Keep Trump in and the leftist socialist’s morons will be slowly put back in their lowly places of inferior lives.
The leftist mob mentality will never become a stronghold in the USA.
Oh and screw “the squad”, those rejects were voted in by other rejects, they will not prevail.
As long as contact tracing disrupts people’s lives with little clear benefit to them, it will have only marginal effect. But yeah, it is pathetic that we can’t hire more competent people to do a non-expert job, in a year with massive unemployment in our state. Pathetic.
If it is going to work, it needs to be coupled with serious support: generous paid leave from work, the *option* to quarantine in a “Covid hotel” if they can’t isolate at home. Most people with Covid don’t spread it to anyone: something like 20% are responsible for 80% of spread. So for most people contact tracing means disruption, possibly losing one’s job or at least significant chunk of income, when it is likely they aren’t infecting other people anyway. If you actually want cooperation you have to support people. People want to help but they aren’t going to be willing to lose their job or two weeks of income on the off chance it might help slow the spread a tiny bit.
Speaking of paid leave, this is something Trump and Congress should have done in March: staff working in LTCFs should have paid leave if they have to quarantine, and they should get extra pay to work only at one facility. There should be hiring grants so places can hire staff to work at just their own facility. Housing support so facilities can have the option of housing staff in a “bubble” environment for stretches of time. That would have been pennies on the dollar and deliver a big benefit. Targeted strategies, what a concept!
