About 400,000 customers in Northern and Central California may lose power starting Sunday because of dangerous weather that in concert with PG&E equipment could spark a wildfire, PG&E officials said.
Forty to 60 mph gusts are likely in some areas and in some peaks gusts may exceed 70 mph. Even 100 mph gusts are not out of the question.
“We have high confidence that this will be the strongest Diablo and fire weather event of the season so far,” said Scott Strenfel, PG&E’s chief meteorologist at a news conference Saturday evening.
Winds are expected to pick up in the North Bay mountains Sunday night and by midnight the East Bay and Santa Cruz Mountains will see winds become stronger, Strenfel said.
Portions of Clayton and Walnut Creek near Mt. Diablo are expected to lose power.
Tuesday is when the winds are expected to finally return to normal.
Strenfel said the humidity is low, the recent extreme temperatures have exacerbated the current drought in the state and fuel moisture is low. “It’s leading this event to really stand out in my mind,” Strenfel said.

Waiting for Natalie to explain how this is a good thing and a true testament of the commitment to quality of life Gavin Newsom has for our state. Please Natalie make the case for the state. Any other 🤖 are welcome as well.
Recall this idiot. Defund democrats everywhere, they fail everyone.
He’s looking out for Californians…….let’s face it, if this guy were on the Titanic he would use women and children for speed bumps on his way to the lifeboats………
Thank you Claycord!
when will folks release this is PG&E saying F$%^ Y%^ for suing us
Ash has it right.
We already do realize this is PG&E putting pressure on the citizens. Now, what can be done about it when we live in a State whose government doesn’t support it’s taxpaying citizens? Please don’t reply “vote them out” or “recall”, that won’t happen in union/Democrat controlled California. So what now?
So PG&E is blacking out half of Lafayette because of wind gusts up to 60 plus miles per hour, but not Walnut Creek. There must be some kind of a plan to slow or stop the wind before it gets to Walnut Creek like maybe freeway signs or something.
Serves the bourgeoisie crowd in Lafayette good. They think of WC as the slums so it is good for them to get a taste of what life is like for the normal folks in Rancho Paraiso.
I checked PG&E website for updated info about 30 minutes ago. They started shutting down parts of Shasta County at 10 AM. Apparently shutoffs may start earlier than planned in CoCo and Alameda County, as early as 3 PM today rather than 6 – 8 PM previously forecasted by PG&E.
Latest wind reading from my backyard weather station is 0.9 mph from the NE. Strongest gust in past 24 hours: 9.2 mph.
Apparently it pays to live in the “slums” of Concord, as has been said of this area by others. At least we get to keep the power on!
Slums?
In Concord?
What about Marsh Creek
So far, the barometers are not dropping quickly.
This may be a sign that the forecatsers computers are not forecasting properly or perhaps not.
If, and that’s a darn big if, we had better representatives managing our state for us, we would be living in a much better place.
Anyhow, check out the isobar map. It’s not looking too much like a storm, right now.
This is also a very good wind map.

I wonder if all the students in NorCAL without power will have their virtual absences excused because no internet access?
Not a chance. They need those numbers to fluff next weeks propaganda.
