Applebee’s, located on Ygnacio Valley Rd. in Walnut Creek, will permanently close on Saturday, according to restaurant employees.
The Applebee’s locations in Antioch and Dublin will remain open. Many of the employees from Walnut Creek will be transferred to those locations.
I LOVE that place…and the food is fabulous! There’s no way I’m going to be able to drive to Antioch or Dublin to get my favorite meals!! I’m heartbroken!!
Definitely don’t go to the Antioch location. Have you been there lately? What happened to Antioch? I wouldn’t live there if it was free, and the culture there is on another level.
Aw.
I use to go there with my friend Leo… He and I are Veterans and we would get a free meal on Veteran’s Day in November. Leo passed away in December 2017. And when I see Applebees I would think of the great times we had there. So sad to see them close.
Thank you for your service.
Thank you for your service and sorry for your loss.
Ate there twice…. actually only once.
The first visit was disappointing, but on the 2nd visit (giving it another chance) we both ordered fish & chips which was inedible as fish filets were FROZEN in the middle. The manager was apologetic & we were polite, but we got the hell out of there & never went back.
This is no loss. The food was disgusting. The macaroni and cheese tasted like frozen macaroni and cheese and the chicken buffalo wings tasted frozen as well.
I came into the comments for this. Applebee’s is so gross, has never been enjoyable, and shouldn’t be supported in the least.
Think ive been there twice. Don’t recall the food being very good. Always saw ABs af the poor man’s Chilis
I love that place. It is too bad they are closing. Not going to Antioch or Dublin.
Saw the plans last week for a new Hooters coming soon
CM-
Tell me more about Hooters coming to town.
That is great news. Love their wings. Was
sorry to see Covid shut down their Dublin
location.
Hooters was looking at either Walnut Creek or Pleasant Hill. However, they have since sold and closed almost all of their restaurants in the bay area. Only one left is Rohnert Park. I only know that because a friend told me. I don’t actually go there………But the wings are awesome!! 😉
Thats a shame
Glad to see a low end chain restaurant vanish.
Let’s mix in a Vietnamese restaurant in this area which is lacking
I ate at an APPLEBEE’s and had ordered what I thought was some kind of mini-rib dish. What appeared was like the back carapace of a triceratop! It was also a bit mushy feeling. I did not get sick but I felt sick from experiencing that meal! Never patronized APPLEBEEs again.
Yep, as my name states it….
A friend of mine worked there. Management was beyond inept.
Citibank coming.
Citi would be a good addition since their closest branch is downtown.
Citibank is literally right down the street next to Round Table Pizza at Treat/Oak Grove. That makes no sense.
Sorry to hear that but not surprised. Last time I was there was for a family birthday and half of the party got very sick. It was only the ones that ordered either fish or shrimp meals.
Another business closing. What a shocker. Sad to see with any business, but at least it’s only Applebee’s. At least we have some indoor dining when it gets colder in the upcoming months, it would be very unfair to the restaurants and employees to make them go to to-go only again.
Thank goodness!! Worst restaurant ever
Ate there last Friday I had to call the store from my cell to let them know I didn’t get my food after sitting over 1hour an a half then the manager never came out to address the issue so understaffed the waiters we’re cooking the food serving food an bartending
Food and service was hit or miss for years, then they got a horrible manager that drove it into the ground long before Covid came around
…. not surprised… but we need a regular sit down served restaurant in this area… a good one will do very well! … and I don’t mean another “fast casual”….
My vote bring Marie Callender back! They had something for everybody plus yummy Pies!
Aunt Barbara-
I’m with you! We picked up a delicious
pie at Marie Calendars while passing
through Redding. Come by if you’d like
a slice of Rhubarb 🥧
I’m with you, “Aunt Barbara”, to bring Callender back! The one in WNCK was superb and I miss their cornbread!
Rhubarb??!!!
Add me to the support list. Marie’s was a weekly destination for us.
Last time I ate there was for lunch a few years ago. I ordered a salad, After eating a couple bites, I looked down and there was a grasshopper in my salad. I felt sick!!! Called the manager over and he grabbed my salad bowl and whisked it away. He told me I didn’t have to pay for my meal (DUH) and then offered me gift certificates! Are you joking??? I never stepped foot in there again!! GROSS!! The Manager said they receive their lettuce in large bags and it’s common for there to be stowaway insects.
@Oh Well…. Grasshoppers Lives Matter!
Yum! You’re lucky you weren’t charged extra for the chapulin. One man’s meat is another man’s poison. But that happens occasionally to anyone preparing large quantities of food. I once worked in a busy restaurant kitchen where I’d chop 72 heads of lettuce and put it all into a giant sink full of cold water with some powdered white preserving chemical (I forgot what it was) dissolved in it that kept it from turning brown around the edges (it could be illegal now, who knows?) and soaked and mixed and drained it and put it in a container to make salads with. I was one of about 2 people in the place with a chance to see if there were any bugs in God only knows how many salads. None of my greens ever had a hitchhiker that I ever heard about.
No great loss! Stopped going there years ago due to the lousy service. For two of us it would take up to an hour to get our food. The last time we went in we were seated by the host, twenty minutes later they took our order and a over a 1/2 hour later we got our food. This was the 3rd time that happen at that location. Complained to local and Corp. management and got an apology and a free meal coupon that I never used at that location. Used it in Pinole where I’ve never had an issue with that Applebee’s.
It’s a great loss for those losing their jobs.
Kyle – Perhaps if they had better service the people would not be loosing their jobs!
But leaving the Antioch location open?! SMH. It should be the opposite
@ Nicole ~ Why?
Was the Walnut Creek location more profitable?
I went to this Applebee’s for the first time in a long time. Food was nothing like it was 25 years ago. I understand why the modern-day Applebee’s are closing. The run has ended. Moving on…
I agree qwerty! I opened that store and at the time Applebee’s did have higher standards and tried to give superior service. I know the original franchise owners sold it years ago. And now the cost of doing business makes it difficult to keep it fully staffed so service suffers. The concept originated in Georgia so when they came to California we had to adapt to the higher costs. Also, sad to see what is going on with MDSD and the kids who suffer. I headed for the hills years ago!!
I haven’t been to Applebee’s in several years but use to meet a friend there once a month. The food was fine but I ordered the same thing every time. What was great is they allowed you to bring our own bottle of wine and didn’t charge a corkage fee.
Sad to see people loosing their jobs, however not sad to see them go. The last time I went it took 30+ min to get any service. We just left a swim meet and my child was starving. When we finally got our food there was zero produce. Apparently they decided no one wanted it so why put it on. Nothing was as ordered. I’m using a walker and they put us in a booth up steps so that was also a negative thing. Our server and the manager both were snooty towards us. So we left, all the food on the table didn’t pay a check just left.
Folks,
Any truth that Whole Foods owns the leases to all the businesses in that mall area?
It was okay. When it first opened, we used to go there all the time. But like Chili’s you find something great on the menu, and then it goes away. After a while, the food was just okay. I tried going back a couple of times in the last year, but nothing I ordered was worth trying again. Plus, there were times where I simply didn’t eat there because I couldn’t find a place to park. Parking was horrible in the evenings.
Bring on Texas Roadhouse!!
Finally! I can’t believe it lasted this long. The most disgusting food I have ever been served. Hamburgers that were actually black, salads with lettuce that was sour. The service only got worse the longer the restaurant occupied that space.
