Today’s question:
QUESTION: Have you ever been on a cruise ship, and would you go on one after the pandemic is over?
Talk about it….
I’ve never had any desire to go on a cruise, and I doubt COVID is going to change that.
Well technically I am still on Gilligan’s Island. A three hour cruise.
Never to both ?’s.
No, a cruise ship is too much like a Petri dish. Look at the Norovirus outbreaks that often occur. Be a few years before I cruise again.
Good answer.
Nope, never have. I know quite a few people that have gone and loved it, but it’s simply not my idea of a fun vacation. I’d rather drive or fly to my destination. Spending all that time on a ship just doesn’t appeal to me.
Yes I would go again. Only have been on one to Alaska. “Seven Seas Navigator”. Only takes 450 passengers. It was great. Dining was very good. When you get to a port you sign up for various activities. Actually you do that before you get on the ship. I can’t imagine what it would be like if you were on a ship with several thousand people aboard. I would never get on a ship that size. If you go on that trip take the train to Denali with other people from the cruise. The train ride is also great as is the bus ride through Denali Park. The train and bus are extras.
I look forward to taking a cruise in the future. Wonderful, great fun. I will get the COVID vaccine before taking a cruise. Excited about Trump being voted out. Will he leave office ? Trump is the worst US president ever.
I’m excited at Democrat’s seceding from the Union (for the 2nd time) when trump is re-elected. Then we can get rid of the slave party once and for all and retake the states. Again.
You could catch legionnaire’s disease on cruise ships too.
Even before the Covid, cruises were having many problems; passengers were being stranded on ships that broke down in the middle of the sea with toilets not working, other illnesses spreading, and etc.
If your idea of vacation is all you can eat cheap buffets, and drinking cheap liquor, then by all means!!
Yes — several. Great way to vacation. Again? Not sure, but definitely not anytime soon.
MAY consider a small boat/river cruise… not a floating infection ward.
Always wanted to cruise to Alaska but never made plans to do it. Might wait a few years more.
When the chinese curse is gone the “Seven Seas Navigator” is the ship to take. See my post above.
Been on 2 cruises. Both to Mexico. Never again on any cruise. Same buffet food every day. If you want different food, it will cost you. Mexico harbor stinks. Don’t go around the corner in Ensenada it’s disgusting. Nothing but prostitutes, dirt and weeds. The graffiti is EVERYWHERE. Cabo was a mess after a hurricane. Wrong time of year. Who knew? Armed soldiers at the pier.
We have not been on a cruise. But might do one for our 50th Anniversary, which is in 2027. Heck, try it once and see if we like it.
I’m not sure that I would be willing to go to sea on any vessel that can’t surface. Nevertheless, after being at sea with some of the finest bubbleheads in Uncle Sam’s Underwater Canoe Club, I’m probably immune to just about anything that comes my way.
Yes, and looking forward to a cruise hopefully early/mid next year.
We had been going every year. Almost always came back sick, even taking many bottles of hand sanitizer and we used it all the time. Last December I had a very bad cough that lasted for a month. As for myself, I do not care to ever get on another ship. I can never trust them again.
Couldn’t see any point in gettin’ on a ship of wall to wall flesh before Covid.
Yes, and yes.
No, though I love being on the water in smaller boats…. canoes, skiffs, yachts, catamarans, etc..
But I am wild about flying abroad to join up with like-interest tour groups so as to soak up as many fine sights and experiences as I can. Invigorating in every respect!
Not a chance. Never been on one and will never go. Those ships are just floating cesspools of infection. You see it in the news all the time. If I go on vacation, it’s only to Disneyland or Disney World. Nothing else.
A cruise ship is probably the safest place to be if nuclear war breaks out.
The Ruskies or Chi-Coms aren’t going to waste any bombs on a single, non military ship full of old people in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
However, if the ship can’t find any safe port that isn’t all radioactive it will either sit in the ocean or run out of fuel and all aboard will have to resort to cannibalism…. or maybe wind up on a deserted island and go all Lord of the Flies on each other….. just don’t go to Mexico.
I’ve toured several “floating cities” while they were docked in port in San Pancho back in the days when Travel Agents were invited aboard to familiarize themselves with them so we’d know what we were talking about with our clients. There are certain parts of the world I would ADORE seeing from the water and would still jump at the chance, but in general I’m not into the “floating city” experience. I’d be VERY bored, and just the thought of being sick with Norovirus would already give me quite enough pause. I’ve enjoyed several small pelagic wildlife tours, but that’s probably not what you meant.
No and no. Cruise missiles are more my speed
… been on a cruise … never again… especially after this 🙁
We considered it, but never did until two years ago when we took a 14 day ocean cruise on Viking, a small ship (930 passengers, nobody under 18 allowed). It was the best vacation we’ve ever had. We have a Viking ocean and a Viking river cruise booked in 2022 and can’t wait. The ocean cruise was actually booked for this past June, but of course got cancelled. We intend to go on more Viking cruises.
Lol!….Weirdo
I’ve cruised 2x. The first time when my offspring was 4 (don’t do this! it was a nightmare!!), and the second time when she was 8 (only moderately better). However, I didn’t really enjoy the trips, didn’t get to do a lot of the on-board things I would have liked to do, too many family members wanting to do this, that, or some other thing, not lounging around the pool like I wanted to. That being said, though, after all the outbreaks of various horrible virus’ on cruise ships I definitely do NOT plan to ever cruise again!!
Years ago I swore I’d never go on a cruise ship because I thought I’d be bored and afraid of catching Legionnaires or some other weird thing. My wife finally talked me into taking a cruise to Alaska. Loved it and have taken cruises to Hawaii, Panama Canal, East Coast and a few others since then. Will I go on a cruise after the Pandemic is over, when it’s long over I might!
Eventually, I suppose. Main reason not now is, I am trying to lose weight, and no chance I would not gain while on a city size ship; I like food too much. Sad, really.
I also enjoy food and there was an abundance of great food on our cruise and wine (and beer) was included with lunch and dinner. We ate very well. However, Viking is about exploring and over 16 days (we did a 2 day post cruise extension) I gained a half pound.
I agree with you that if your trying to loose weight a Cruise Ship is the last place you want to be. Seems like every cruise I’ve been on I’ve gained 10+ pounds. Tried every type of food they have on them from the buffet’s, main dining rooms and the speciality restaurants. Love it going down but hate it when I step on the scale after the cruise.
Yes, we have been on acoule of river cruises. Will not take another until Corona virus is completely under control and all crew and travelers have been vaccinated.
Been on over 60 cruises – cruising is our favorite way to see the world. Never been sick or had any problems. Can’t wait until the next one…
Yes, However, it was a SMALL cruise ship line, with 8-11 passengers maximum. Has a naturalist and can go where the large ships can’t or won’t. Now mind you, there is no disco or ice sculptures, but the food is very gourmet and served right away. Kayaking, snorkeling, hiking all included.
Did the Royal Caribbean Mexico 3-porter 20 yrs ago. It was a good value and enjoyable experience overall. However…no burning desire to go again.
Cruise ships are disgusting long before Covid hit.
We won a 21 day cruise years ago and took half the cash value instead option.
Yes, When I left Denmark to live on a kibbutz in Israel, in the mid sixties, the trip took us by train from Copenhagen to Venice, in Venice we boarded a ship that took us to the Island of Corfu, Athens and Crete, spend several hours to a whole day in each place (at the harbor in Crete we were able to jump of the pier for a swim, heaven if you grew up in Denmark). It was tourist season, and all young Europeans (mostly Danes) going to Israel we travelled 3rd class, so the put us in an old ship, but we had the run of the ship and stayed up and danced to late at night under the Mediterranean moon, most of us were in our early twenties and we were a few hundred people on that ship. Returning in October a few months later, we did have passage on the larger ship, made the same stops. plus a stop in Izmir Turkey. Several years ago when I was selling insurance I qualified for a free cruise to Mexico, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas, everything paid for and a little more in style than when the ship to Israel, enjoyed them both. Would like to go on a cruise to Alaska, and also a Rhine cruise. Not sure I can afford it. Also travelled from Reykjavik Iceland to Edinburgh on a ship, but it was not a cruise just a mode of transportation, still pleasurable and fun. Passed the volcanic island Surtsey, that erupted out of the blue in the Atlantic Ocean, fascinating. I have lived a charmed life, I’m very lucky.
Yes indeed you are, Hanne. What wonderful, fantastic memories.
Forgot to add our destination was Haifa, and we arrived in the morning, the City of Haifa looked glorious from the sea and even more so as we got closer. Later after we were on the kibbutz we got to explore the City even more, a beautiful exciting city.
Will the new California Covid 19 equity requirement be calculated per ship?
I’ve been on a few cruises, all were a great time. Never got sick on either one. My favorite was a 7 day cruise to Bermuda. So much to do on the ship, and their were several great restaurants. Dance clubs, casinos, shopping, Movie theater, water slides, pools, and live entertainment. It was actually during hurricane Dorian, so the water was real rough on the last day, and some people were sea sick, but even despite that, I had a blast and would go again! It was a huge ship. I will definitely cruise again.
floating germ boxes
No
IMHO – if there is a breakout on the ship – the ship should have to go to the country for the ship sails under.
If they don’t want to the expense and work to fly under the American Flag – then they shouldn’t expect the US to deal with their problems.
And passengers should be told and then they can make their decisions.
We’ve been on many cruises. Just booked another next year. We really enjoy all the entertainment, food choices and most of all relaxation. I feel flying in an airplane, the grocery store is a lot worse then a cruise. We really miss it right now.
Absolutely and I look forward to going again. We have been on quite a few cruises and enjoyed each and every one of them. Of course I also make sure I am keeping myself from being exposed to any illness. I wash my hands, I opt to use the bathroom in my stateroom rather than the public area ones when at all possible. I also choose wisely the types of cruises I am going on as I get older. I am not going to do a party ship that caters to the 20-30 year old age group. We did Alaska in 2019 and it was fantastic!
The only cruises I would consider are a small boat on the river on the Danube. Small passenger count, former food and wines from the vineyards were passing by. Sounds like a special trip to me!
I had longed to do a “Barefoot” sail in the Caribbean, but alas, they are no more. Nothing like sailing on a smallish (35 ft plus) boat.
The wife and I have been able to see the world Cruising. Love it and the ports of call we have docked at are wonderful.
Cancelled or 3rd Cruise to Europe this summer due to the Covid, we were sad. But our health is better than cruising for now. When the vaccine comes out we will be back on the oceans again. For the time being we are much safer at home.
I sail and have cruised on a 28 foot sailboat. I have been on powerboats. I love being on the water in the right boat, but you couldn’t get me on one of those cruises if my life depended on it. Can’t see taking a vacation with 3,000 other people confined to a floating septic tank. Would be my idea of Hell.
