For the fifth time in just under three years, Cold Stone Creamery in Pleasant Hill’s Crescent Plaza was forced to close due to a cockroach infestation.

Inspectors from the Contra Costa County Department of Environmental Health say they found the following during their inspection on Sept.3:

  • 2 live cockroaches walking on the sales floor where customers would be ordering ice cream.
  • 3 live cockroaches walking on the flooring at the ice cream prep station
  • 2 live cockroaches between the 1 door unplugged unit and the freezer (under the prep counter) and under the ice cream dipper area.
  • 10 dead cockroaches on the dining room flooring and on window sills.
  • 20 plus dead cockroaches around the main prep area under equipment on the floor, around the office desk, water heater area, under cash register in front., etc
  • Cockroaches that were observed were all life stages, nymph, juvenile, adult

The restaurant has since been reinspected and reopened.

Why does the County Health Department, or the City of PH for that matter, continue to allow this filth hole to remain open after continuous health department closures? The cockroaches were clearly visible in mass, and the employees and operator(s) did nothing about it? That’s beyond gross!

Jim and I walked out of that eatery decades ago. While waiting in line, we observed an employee who was mixing up an ice cream order take a bite of the ice cream with the mixing spoon she was using, then continued mixing the ice cream with the same spoon. Never returned.

I’m fine as long as there were no wiggling
antennas spotted. 🍦👅

With all of the methods of getting rid of those devils there is no excuse for this to happen. Who are the owners?

Looked up the owner. large restaurant business, 1600 hundred restaurants worldwide owned by Stanley Ma from Hong Kong.

Not true.. Franchised. The owner’s name is Steve and he’s an old ex-hippie dead head. He gives 0 sh*ts about anything or anybody except making money. Has had multiple labor violations as well.

If people would stop going there they would go out of business. They’re obviously still in business because people keep patronizing

The cockroaches must really like ice cream!

Hey, great new idea for a tag line for their advertising!

Who, at this point, would even be going there! Yuck.

First there should be a limit on how many times you’re violated/shut down temporarily and after that the place should be shut down permanently.

But in all seriousness, who still goes here?

I thought they had closed permanently. Guess not. Haven’t been down there recently.

“20 plus dead cockroaches around the main prep area under equipment on the floor, around the office desk, water heater area, under cash register in front., etc” Either they had some form of treatment in place or the roaches died from eating the ice cream

Why doesn’t someone sweep them up? Or do they die so fast that right after the sweeping another group comes along and dies?

I have asked the question before, and still don’t have the answer, but does Contra Costa County Department of Environmental Health have the authority to permanently shut down a facility? And if so, what is the standard for doing that? Maybe someone from the County can weigh in.

Sometimes, my curiosity is peaked. It is an extremely long and vaguely written CA Law, so I could be wrong. But, it looks like the State gives the authority to the County (Supervisors) to allow the Health Department to permanently close a place; an appeals process should be in place.

My guess is the county is more interested in the fees and taxes collected from a business, so I would bet hesitant to actually shut them down for good.

Wow… I typed a lot…. Think I’ve had enough coffee this morning???

It would be nice if all that information could be under click here for more info so we don’t have to see the disgusting facts every time we log on to Claycord. Just my opinion

print out the report above and plaster it all over their windows everyday, they wont be in business long…

I am so glad I haven’t ordered from them. I’ve been seeing them on food delivery websites and their items look tempting, but in the end, I would choose another ice cream shop, usually Baskin and Robbins.

I’m glad I don’t ever venture onto Crescent Circle!!

Someone needs to lose a franchise…

😂

Terrible ice cream

Their ice-cream does not melt. That’s weird.

I’ll take a double scoop of black roach mocha with almonds . Yummy

You would think, with everything that is going on, a business would want to keep being in business and workers would want to keep their jobs?
If anything, this place should have been the first to close permanently. I am hoping that it does and wishing it will. The employees that are letting this happen are disgusting and putting people’s health at risk. We all have enough to worry about.

It took only two health department closing orders before Corner Bakery shut down forever. This place seems immune, however. The City should shut it down as a public nuisance.

The problem is that it’s just one tenant in a larger building. If there are roaches in one restaurant, you know they’re in the others too, migrating around.

Roaches life’s matter too.

Lol! You guys are cracking me up!

When they ask you if you’d like some ‘sprinkles’ on your order, just say NO!

Actually, aren’t cockroaches as food becoming all the rage?

So, what’s the problem here ?

😉

Amazed this place is still opened with the multiple violations over the years. Passed it the other day with my family and the first thought I had was, it’s been a while..

Been once for my family but didn’t touch it. I’ve save my calories for beer and occasional other food items. Nothing more pathetic than a fat old couple eating ice cream cones anyhow.

Tastes like crunchy chicken!!
