The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it.
The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday at noon.
Today’s question:
Movie theaters in El Dorado Hills and Placerville have reopened, with restrictions.
This brings up a good question….
QUESTION: What is one thing you miss about life before COVID-19?
Talk about it.
The ability to go places, including work (at work) and most of all, I miss having fun and vacationing in the summer.
Movie theaters are re-opened in San Diego too. They closed down later than most counties, continued to surf and dine outdoors, are north of Mexico, not strict with masks, etc. — but yet they aren’t widespread (purple zone) like 98% of counties in California. Interesting.
Movies in theaters, being able to congregate without fear and not having to wear PPE while outside.
Less government tyranny and oppression.
How about life for starters. Don’t forget where this plague came from.
Seeing people’s smiles
Sam~
Ain’t that the Truth,…plus I still smile behind the mask,… 🙂
I draw a smile on my mask. I ordered a Pennywise smile mask but it has yet to be delivered. 🙂
Living mask free.
AMEN!
Aside from the general peaceful, easy feeling of living in a basically prosperous economy, being able to see my family and friends. Being able to physically go to my social groups and talk inside a restaurant or private home while actually seeing people’s faces.
You know, living like a normal human being.
Being mask free.
I don’t miss anything. Jim and I have settled into our new normal. I’m more relaxed, content, and thankful, than before Covid-19. Stress level considerably down, for whatever reason. I have so much to be thankful for!
The thing Jim misses is his Cowboy Shoots. But he’s been doing some shooting at the USI (?) Range off Willow Pass Road. Says it’s set up really nice and Covid-19 safe. Last trip Jim shot black powder and all of the staff and other shooters thought it was really cool.
Hey Mary,
We are looking forward to visiting the Range soon!
Black powder! I bet they did enjoy that. Fun.
I seem to have misplaced my purple card!
Does the range still require those?
The freedom to do what I want when I want and where I want.
Exactly. Spontaneity is gone. Have to think about if something is open or allowed or even wise to do.
Indeed Elf.
FREEDOM.
Gods yes. The extreme regimentation everywhere is soul-destroying. The limited, too-early closures. The out-of-date information online.
Hyper-scheduling and planning sucks all the joy out of existence.
Matinees at the Century 14.
Sitting inside a Starbucks.
Peace. ✌🏼
Going out to breakfast.
I think high school kids are smart enough to know the risks and take proper precautions
My pre-covid income
Playgrounds being open. So difficult to explain to a two year old why he remains cooped up and can’t play at the playground.
Hopefully they will open soon
Agreed CJRN! My daughter is 2 and was in swimming classes and would go to the playground almost everyday after I get off work. She still gets confused when we pass Clayton park or Heather Farms and do not get out to play. Sad
EVERYTHING!
Watching my children participate in sports.
Not looking at other people as walking, talking, living, breathing germ factories.
Being able to drive down to Pasadena and visit my daughter and grandchildren, still haven’t seen my grandson born in April. However, have scheduled a trip for later this month.
Other things, although I have been able to meet girl friends for lunch, other things I have not been able to do. Such as go “Scandinavian Club’s” 2 cabins one in Tahoe, the other in Clear Lake, always a nice get away. Also same club was suppose to have a big fancy 70 anniversary party about now, of course cancelled. Hoping that the couple of Christmas parties they usually have will take place, but not sure.
At least I’m finally able to get a haircut tomorrow, will definitely improve my every day life, being able to look in the mirror and stand myself, and since I have very short hair also less maintenance.
My husband being out of the house most days.
Silva, Best comment yet. Thanks for the laugh.
Self-quarantine is easier for me than for some because I am retired and because of having so many hobbies, interests, etc., which are actually done better when alone.
But I do yearn for the experience of going to a fine restaurant and having full table service.
Exactly what I would say…..thanks..my concentration is better it seems when I have no place to be,..able to catch up on most things…
I miss family get togethers, being able to go where we want and traveling outside of this area.
I miss playing music with friends and bandmates.
everything… i took so much for granted
So when life returns to normal you will be more grateful, thus happier.
I had a friend long time ago who said “nothing is so bad, that it not good for something”, not true in all cases, such as terminal illness other extremes, but never the less worth to ponder.
In-person Zumba classes. Zumba was my happy place, and loosing it so suddenly is the saddest thing I have ever had to deal with.
I also miss being able who I want to see and when, and also seeing people’s smiles and enjoying life to the fullest!!
@Coggins Square… If that’s the saddest thing you’ve had to deal with in your life then you’re really young or have been really sheltered all your life….or both.
You must be trolling. Zumba..lol good one
I miss not having Covid-19 in my vocabulary and all that this pandemic entails…
Really don’t miss much,….but I sure would like to get a pedicure.
Sorry, more than one:
– the lost freedom of being in public without a mask;
– the loss of being sociable with others;
– to move freely in public, build a business or family, and keep anything you’ve worked for because of destruction from democrats’ rioting & looting.
REMEMBER: Chaos is always followed with authoritarian government.
A thriving restaurant industry. Really miss dining .
Getting my 22 year old special needs daughter out to socialize and experience the life we once knew. Like so many she has been affected adversely from all the recent changes. Fingers crossed that life will get easier for all… SOON!
Y’know, worse than the friends and family thing is the utter absence of anything new or different. I miss variety. I miss change. I miss new music, new places to go, new things to try and experience.
Life is shrinking. We’re talking about the same things ad nauseum: culture wars, COVID, protests. That’s it. There’s nothing else, unless you want to add smoke and fire. We’re shadows of what we were. Sometimes I open my mouth to say something to my husband and I realize I’ve already said it twice today and 90 billion times yesterday… the month before… six months before. Then I say nothing and still nothing changes except that there’s now this oppressive silence.
I used to have an imagination, but the silence has suffocated it. There’s no space to breathe and be human, even if we’re legislatively mandated to stay 6 feet apart.
so well said. thank you.
Beautifully done. Thank you.
Lizzee, You brought tears to my eyes.
In-person worship is at the top of my list.
Having my mother over for dinner (she’s old and in Assisted Living).
No worries about rioting, looting, arson and anarchy in my county, much less country.
Fear-free encounters with other people. I’m not afraid of getting coronavirus from a casual contact in the store or on a walk, but a lot of people are walking around in a haze of fear and hopelessness.
So I guess that’s my top 4.
Leave ALL the movie theaters SHUT DOWN!
Let the so called “STARS” starve!
Commonsense…face masks don’t protect/then they are imperative, people can’t go to the beach or park in small groups/but they can gather by the thousands to riot and loot, some businesses can open with masks and sanitation and customer limits/but others can’t open with masks and sanitation and customer limits, law enforcement should be vilified because 1/1,000,000 police are a plague on society/criminals should be set free because 1/1,000,000 aren’t a plague on society
I wear a 95 rated mask specifically because it does protect me.
I miss self serve at convenience stores where I can pour myself a cup of flavored coffee at Am PM, Extra Mile stores or 7Eleven.
I miss the time when I had never heard the slogan “Bust it up, Build Back Better”. Sometimes they don’t print the “Bust it up” part………but it’s there.
My Job!
Massages, movies, visiting family 90 minutes away (my sister-in-law is a germ freak), traveling for vacation and visiting far away family. Oh and buffets like Sweet Tomato’s.
I miss so much I guess I should be thankful for my health and I love to paint. I have an art studio and Jamison! Ha ha. Plus I love to garden and cook so thank the Gods I have so much going for me. No bills and lots for free time. to do exactly what I want. You all have a blessed day ok? We can get through this.
The violence, unrest and rioting is far more alarming and threatening than a virus with a 1 to 2% lethality rate. Long term effects of Covid might be horrible but as of now things aren’t looking all that world-ending. Reinfection is rare, death rates among the healthy and reasonably young are very low.
My harem of lonely housewives & the bi weekly house calls…. those were the days…. and the dive bars!
The COVID was started by a jealous husband who works in science and data.
I miss being able to give our daughter a proper wedding in our church, followed by a reception with friends and family. Still hoping and praying for next year…
Travel. I don’t feel comfortable getting on a plane or being in a crowded hotel. It’s torture for a travel buff like me.
My waist line! 🤦♀️
Smiles, hugs, meeting new people, shopping, family parties, kids playing in the park, concerts, gym, church
I think if this had happened when I was younger it would have been harder, then I would always go away on 3 day week ends, Yosemite, Clear Lake etc. and was out a lot, as a single mom, when I had my daughter I would do things that included her, we hiked, went to the zoo, etc. when she was with her dad, I was out with friends, or on a date. I’m sure I would miss all that. I sympathize with those of you who have children and are trying to figure out schooling etc, I think that would be very hard.
My daughter and family lives in Monrovia Ca, there is a fire nearby, and they have been told to stand by for evacuations. Last night she texted they could see the fire, but this morning they could not. Just checked the latest on the internet and seems be concern about Monrovia, and other small area’s there. Kind of put things in perspective, who cares about wearing a mask and missing out on a few months of social life.
Art classes! Socializing. Restaurants. Visiting friends. The movies. I miss everything I cannot do now.
Laws being enacted by the legislature rather than our king Gavin and our local feudal lords, the county health officials. How long can something go on and still be called an emergency? The virus is still serious, but it has been here a while now and we know the deal. There’s no reason our laws should be replaced with dictates for the better part of a year.
I think we are learning to live with the virus. Macy’s (where I work) have been open since June 18. Sunvalley Mall is now open, some modifications, but people are shopping, and are out and about.
I miss my mom and our once weekly shopping/lunch outings. She passed away May 5th (not related to covid) and my life is never going to be the same.
Blossoms Mom, I lost my Mom in Feb. And like you miss her terribly. You are so right things will never be the same.
